YSRCP criticises coalition government for buying power at a high cost
Visakhapatnam: Terming the agreement made by the NDA government with Axis Energy Venture Infra to buy power at Rs.4.60 per unit as a big scam, former Minister Gudivada Amarnath came down heavily on the government for burdening the people with increased power charges.
At a media conference held here on Monday, Amarnath pointed out that corruption is rampant as the coalition government intends to buy power at an exorbitant rate only to favour a few. 'When YS Jagan Mohan Reddy government signed an agreement with SECI to buy power at Rs.2.49 per unit, the TDP and JSP created a big scene and propagated a false campaign that the state would be losing Rs.1.10 lakh crore.
Now, the same parties signed an agreement to buy power at almost double the cost per unit, Amarnath criticised, adding it shows the level of corruption that prevails. 'The agreement includes a ceiling of 25 years which means the power cost remains unchanged at Rs.4.60 even if there is a slump in power price,' he stressed.
Misusing its discretionary powers, Amarnath said, the coalition government threatened the regulatory body too.
From Rs.29,000 crore in 2014, the dues to power companies rose to Rs.86,300 crore by 2019.
With a CAGR at 24 percent, it came to 7.2 percent in the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's government despite the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic. The power sector witnessed growth in the YSRCP's tenure after the defect policies in the TDP's rule, Amarnath recalled.
TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu promised during elections that he would not increase power tariff and would in turn slash the rates. However, with increased power cost per unit, he is imposing an additional burden of Rs.15,000 crore on people, the former minister stressed.
Referring to those who spoke against YS Jagan Mohan Reddy alleging corruption, Amarnath demanded an apology as the former Chief Minister intended to supply nine hours of uninterrupted free power to farmers.

The user explains the backdrop by stating that he got engaged in December 2024, married in February 2025, and lost his father in April 2025. During the appraisal, he had a one-on-one meeting with his team lead, who said, 'You should have resigned around your wedding, do you even realize how much your marriage delayed the work? Because of your father's situation and the leave you took, my timeline commitment couldn't be fulfilled." This stunned the techie. 'That was the final straw for me. I looked at him and said very calmly, 'Please watch what you're saying and think before you speak. Choose your next words carefully,'" he said. Finally, the employee resigned on June 3 without a job offer. 'I'm honestly unsure whether this was the right call — the job market is tough, and I'm not fully prepared for interviews yet," the user posted. The post saw several reactions on Reddit. 'Name and shame the company so that others don't have to go through what you went through," said one user. 'I know how it is to be under a toxic person. Gujarat Information Commission demands end to CID's RTI exemption in cyber fraud cases
AHMEDABAD: In a game-changing decision, the Gujarat State Information Commission has slammed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) (Crime) for hiding behind a 19-year-old RTI exemption to deny critical information to cyber fraud victims. The Commission has now recommended the state government revoke the special immunity granted to CID Crime regarding cyber fraud cases—delivering a major win for transparency and the rights of hundreds of duped citizens. The exemption, in effect since October 25, 2005, under a Home Department notification, placed CID Crime beyond the purview of the Right to Information Act for crime-related investigations. However, the recent judgment has pierced this shield in the context of cybercrime, which the Commission argued is no longer a conventional 'sensitive crime' but a rapidly escalating public menace impacting citizens daily. The ruling stemmed from a plea by Rakesh Kumar Prajapati, a Gandhinagar resident who lost Rs 4.5 lakh to cyber fraud. After filing a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell, Prajapati sought the FIR copy and related documents under the RTI Act. CID Crime rejected his request, citing the 2005 exemption. Unwilling to accept silence in the face of theft, Prajapati took the matter to the State Information Commission.

Andhra Pradesh raises maximum working hours from 9 to 10 to boost investment
The Andhra Pradesh government, led by the TDP-NDA alliance, has increased daily working hours from nine to ten to attract investors and ease business regulations. Remove Ads The TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh has decided to raise the maximum working hours from nine to 10 per day as part of ease of doing business and attracting Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Minister K Parthasarathy said that it has been decided to amend labour laws to make them 'favourable' to workers and state secretary K Ramakrishna criticised the move and said NDA governments at the Centre and state are pursuing 'anti worker' policies."Relevant sections of laws which allow maximum nine hours of work a day has now been raised to 10 hours per day. Under Section 55 there used to be one hour rest for five hours (work) now that has been changed to six hours," said Parthasarathy recently, elaborating on the decisions made by the cabinet to amend labour Parthasarathy noted that overtime was allowed only up to 75 hours which now has been extended up to 144 hours per quarter."Because of this (amendments to labour laws), investors in factories will (come to our state). These labour rules will be favourable for labourers and they will come to invest more. Globalisation is happening in every state. These amendments were brought to implement global rules," said the minister observed that the cabinet has also relaxed night shift rules to enable more women to work in the night to the I&PR Minister, women were not allowed to work in the night shifts earlier but now they can work with safeguards such as consent, transport facility, security and said the workplace of women during night shifts should be fully illuminated."When you work extra, income will increase. By these rules women can work in the formal sector. They empower women economically and promote gender inclusion and industrial growth. Also contribute to women's empowerment," he K Ramakrishna, State Secretary of CPI, opposed the NDA alliance government's stand on labour laws amendments. He alleged that the Central and state governments are working against the interests of workers."For the past 11 years, the Modi government has repeatedly taken measures that infringe upon workers' rights in India," Ramakrishan told PTI on oppose these rules, he said trade unions have decided to protest on July 9 all over India, adding that all sections will participate in this protest he observed that the NDA governments both at the Centre and in the state are pursuing 'anti-worker policies'.
