This includes distilling the alcoholic drink in batches of less than 300 bottles using a traditional copper still at a distillery in the Western Cape.
Juniper Moon Gin's roots trace back to 2013, when its founder, Richard Stanton, created his first distillation.

Juniper Moon Gin is founded by distiller, Richard Stanton,created his first distillation back in 2013.

And although it is a London Dry, the most common kind of gin and a style of beverage which is characterised by a dry, robust taste and is often used as a base for cocktails, Stanton conducted extensive research to ensure that he came up with something novel.
He believes that his unique recipe, which includes nine botanicals, seven of which are traditional, is what sets them apart. Other flavours include juniper berries as well as orris and angelica roots.
With a hint of floral notes, Juniper Moon also contains two secret ingredients which introduce gin-lovers to something very new and different.
To showcase their impeccable gin, Juniper Moon will host an exclusive gin-pairing experience at Auslese by Aubergine in Cape Town on Thursday night featuring the culinary delights of former "Masterchef Australia" runner-up Ben Ungermann and the restaurant's chef Harald Bresselschmidt, with gin creations by master mixologist Sebastian Rodriguez.

Ahead of the event, Stanton, whose Juniper Moon Gin was highlighted by Rolls-Royce at an event in the UK recently, explained that they contacted several European spice traders in a bid to see if there was a demand for their two secret botanicals.
'Between them, they supply several thousand distillers worldwide, and none of the traders had ever sold these two products to anybody, ever.'
He added: 'So although, yes, London Dry is the most common kind of gin, mine is different.'
'If you compare five, 10 or even London Dry gins, there is always an element of similarity between them, but Juniper Moon never disappears and becomes 'one of the crowd'.'
'True gin enthusiasts will always detect something very different, very special.'

WASHINGTON - Tensions between Elon Musk and Donald Trump erupted Tuesday as the world's richest man derided the president's key piece of economic legislation in a startling rupture just days after exiting a controversial job in the White House. Musk was lauded by the Republican leader as he left his advisory role atop Trump's "Department of Government Efficiency" last week, despite criticism over his failure to deliver on promises of radical spending cuts. "This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination," Musk posted on X as he followed its progress from the sidelines, in by far his most caustic remarks on Trump's agenda. "Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong." It was not Musk's first comments on Trump's so-called "big, beautiful bill" which is set to add $3 trillion to US deficits over a 10-year horizon, despite deep cuts to health and food aid programs. But Musk's previous criticism was more restrained, with the Tesla and SpaceX magnate offering only that it undermined his cost-cutting efforts. On Tuesday he said the bill - being considered by Congress - would burden "citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt." His post laid bare an increasingly tense relationship between the White House and Musk, who donated almost $300 million to Trump's 2024 election campaign. Musk has become disillusioned, US media reported, as his goals for White House action that would benefit him personally have gone unrealised. The bill he was criticising cuts the electric vehicle tax credit - bad news for Tesla - while Axios reported that Musk was rebuffed in his efforts to extend his role beyond the statutory 130-day limit. He also failed to have his Starlink satellite system used for air traffic control, according to Axios, and was angered by Trump withdrawing the nomination of Musk ally Jared Isaacman to be NASA chief. The normally pugilistic Trump has pulled his punches, aware of his biggest backer's enormous influence over young, tech-savvy and historically apathetic voters - a key Trump constituency in 2024. "The president already knows where Elon Musk stood on this bill, it doesn't change his opinion," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters in a rapid response to Musk's tweet. The spat came with House Republicans set to pass legislation sent from the White House to enshrine into law $9.4 billion of DOGE's cuts, mostly money destined for public broadcasting and foreign aid. House Speaker Mike Johnson called Musk's comments "disappointing," adding that he had walked the entrepreneur through the bill on Monday, and that he "seemed to understand." BURGEONING DEBT As the world's richest person bowed out of his role as Trump's cost-cutter-in-chief, their relationship appeared on an even keel as the Republican hailed his fellow billionaire's "incredible service." Trump even insisted that Musk was "really not leaving" after a turbulent four months in which the South African born tycoon cut tens of thousands of jobs, shuttered whole agencies and slashed foreign aid. DOGE led an ideologically driven rampage through the federal government, with its young "tech bros" slashing tens of thousands of jobs. But its achievements fell far short of Musk's original boast that he could save $2 trillion - more than the government's entire discretionary spending budget for 2024. The DOGE website claims to have saved taxpayers less than a tenth of that total - just $180 billion - and fact checkers even see that claim as dubious, given previous inaccuracies in its accounting. Senate Democrats released a report Tuesday itemising 130 examples of "unethical or potentially corrupt" administration actions they say have helped Musk dodge regulation and add $100 billion to his wealth. The report came as senators began what is expected to be a fraught month of negotiations on Trump's mammoth policy package, expected to add between $2.5 trillion and $3.1 trillion to deficits over a decade. Trump said on Monday it was "the single biggest Spending Cut in History," although he added: "The only 'cutting' we will do is for Waste, Fraud, and Abuse."

South African GDP grows by a paltry 0.1% in Q1, but agriculture shines

One thing that is as certain as the changing seasons is that as the year progresses, forecasts for South African economic growth in 2025 – which are mostly around 1.2% – will be downgraded, which in turn will blow out of the water many of the revenue and debt projections in Budget 3.0. South Africa's sluggish economy barely grew in the first quarter (Q1) of this year, expanding a pathetic 0.1% from Q4 of 2024, according to data released on Tuesday by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA). This 'growth' – at a pace that a snail could slither past – would have been a contraction of 0.3% were it not for a stellar performance by the agricultural sector, which grew its production by a hefty 15.8% in the first three months of the year. Following gross domestic product (GDP) growth of just 0.4% in Q4 of 2024 – revised down from an initial estimate of 0.6% – the data underscores the woeful state of South Africa's economy, which simply cannot seem to expand at a rate that exceeds population growth and creates jobs. Against this backdrop, it's no surprise that South Africa's unemployment rate rose one percentage point in Q1 to 32.9%. Worryingly, only four of the 10 industries on the production side of the economy posted growth, led by agriculture, a sector that is also extremely volatile. Agriculture biggest growth driver South Africa's descent into deindustrialisation was writ large in the data, with the manufacturing and mining sectors the biggest drags on the read, declining 2.0% and 4.1% respectively. Consumer spending perked up – helped by lower interest rates, slowing inflation and early pension drawdowns under the two-pot reforms – but it hardly shot the lights out. 'Consumer activity was stronger, with trade, catering & accommodation expanding by 0.5%. Retail trade, motor trade, accommodation and food & beverages contributed positively,' Stats SA said. Changes in GDP contributions Gross fixed capital expenditure – a key measure of investment – maintained its downward trajectory, falling 1.7%. And without investment growth, the economy will remain stuck in a rut. 'Consumer demand likely received a small boost from lower rates, higher disposable incomes given still-low inflation and pension reform. But none of this is sufficient to offset the soft outlook still painted by dismal investment. From this data alone, there is no clear indication that it might be reasonable to expect more robust growth going forward,' said Razia Khan, Chief Economist Africa at Standard Chartered Bank in London. Indeed, the outlook for Q2 is already troubling. What this means South Africa cannot attract investment, create jobs and reduce poverty without significantly faster rates of economic growth. Many of the country's crippling social ills, including rampant crime, are at least partly a reflection of this woeful pace of growth. This deprives the government of revenue, forcing it to borrow more, raising its debt-servicing costs – leaving it with less to spend on things such as education, welfare and health – in a vicious cycle that shows no sign of ending soon. The Absa Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) fell 1.6 points in May to 43.1 – pointedly, its lowest level since the Covid-19 pandemic. This marked the seventh consecutive month that the PMI was in contractionary territory below the neutral 50 mark and bodes ill for the sector's performance this quarter. The return of the rolling power cuts, popularly known as 'load shedding', after a 310-day pause in Q1 did not help matters, but the economy has been trapped in slow-growth mode for years. There are a range of reasons for this depressing state of affairs, which continues to fuel the terrible trifecta of poverty, unemployment and inequality. Policy uncertainty continues to deter investment, along with mounting concerns about reliable water supplies and a crumbling road, rail and port network. Transnet is showing promising signs of a management turnaround, but it still has a mountain to climb. A high tax burden with little to show for it hardly inspires confidence. Sky-high levels of violent crime and the security costs that go with that are constraints to growth, while South Africa's failing public schools add up to a chronic skills shortage. And amid these domestic challenges and many more, the outlook for the global economy has been souring, not least because of US President Donald Trump's bewildering tariff 'policies' that top the ANC and the GNU in the League of Uncertainty. One thing that is as certain as the changing seasons is that as the year progresses, forecasts for South African economic growth in 2025 – which are mostly around 1.2% – will be further downgraded, which in turn will blow out of the water many of the revenue and debt projections in Budget 3.0.
