PLUS and LPT2 highways now feature 112 EV charging points
The company surpassed its initial target of 100 charging points by year-end, contributing to Malaysia's goal of 1,000 fast-charging stations by 2025.
PLUS managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar said the charging points are strategically placed at rest areas, lay-bys, and petrol stations for user convenience.
She noted a growing utilisation rate of EV chargers on PLUS highways, reflecting increased adoption of electric vehicles nationwide.
PLUS plans to launch Malaysia's first Highway EV Hub at Seremban R&R (Southbound) by early 2027.
The company aims to energise 350 EV charging points by 2028 to further support sustainable travel.
PLUS chief commercial officer Mohd Fauzi Puniran said the installed chargers are Direct Current Fast Chargers (DCFCs) for efficient long-distance travel.
These chargers provide output power from 47 kW to 200 kW, enabling an 80 per cent charge in 15 to 30 minutes.
The charging points feature universal CCS2 connectors compatible with most major EV brands in Malaysia. - Bernama

BUSINESS By Nur Ashikin Abdul Aziz SINGAPORE, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will push for a 'substantial conclusion' of the ASEAN Digital Economy Framework Agreement (DEFA) at the ASEAN Economic Ministers' (AEM) Meeting from Sept 24 to 26 in Kuala Lumpur, said Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. Before the meeting in Malaysia's capital, the ministers will also convene at a special meeting on DEFA on Aug 28 via video conference, also to be chaired by Tengku Zafrul. 'We will push for DEFA because it's important for ASEAN, especially Malaysia, as it is one of our PEDs (Priority Economic Deliverables) to be delivered this year. The good news is that we have completed the negotiations for two PEDs, which are the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) and the ASEAN Trade in Goods Agreement (ATIGA), that are targeted to be signed in October,' he told Bernama after participating in the Bursa Malaysia Invest Malaysia session as part of the Macquarie ASEAN Conference here. Tengku Zafrul stated that the DEFA, the first of its kind in any regional framework, will enable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to become part of a more inclusive ASEAN intra-trade ecosystem. He noted that of the 18 PEDs, half fall under the AEM purview, and he is confident they will be able to deliver all of them before the end of Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship. The minister also noted that his team was in New Delhi last week for negotiations on the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Review, and he was informed that there had been some positive progress towards its substantial conclusion. In his keynote address, the minister said that Malaysia, as ASEAN Chair, is also pushing to unlock greater investability through deliverables such as the adoption of the ASEAN Sustainable Investment Guidelines (ASIG) and by catalysing access to financing for a just transition and climate resilience in the region. He added that ASEAN is also striving to make its capital markets more sustainable, connected, and inclusive, and has made significant strides, from expanding green finance instruments to attracting green investments. 'As the region continues to invest in sustainable infrastructure, during our year as Chair, Malaysia also hopes to pave the way for sector-specific initiatives, including an ASEAN EV Roadmap, a Minerals Development Action Plan, and an ASEAN Framework for an Integrated Semiconductor Supply Chain,' he said.

FTA With South Korea Concluded, Will Continue To Engage All Countries
GENERAL SINGAPORE, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has concluded its free trade agreement (FTA) negotiations with South Korea and is expected to sign the document in October, said Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz. Speaking at a Bursa Malaysia Invest Malaysia fireside chat session, he said the move is part of the country's continuous engagement with global partners to gain broader market access, particularly amid rising geopolitical uncertainty. 'To date, we have 18 FTAs, both bilateral and multilateral. We've just signed two this year. We have resumed talks with the EU this year,' he said during the session, which was moderated by Bursa Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Fad'l Mohamed. The session was held as part of the Macquarie ASEAN Conference here. When asked about Malaysia's engagement with BRICS, despite perceived threats from US President Donald Trump, Tengku Zafrul said it is important for Malaysia to remain consistent in its approach and to treat all countries equally. 'We are partners today. There are many other countries who are already members, and what's important is that all these countries are also members of other economic blocs. So this will continue,' he said. He also emphasised the importance of Malaysia maintaining a neutral stance. 'Malaysia can't afford to. I think ASEAN is also playing that card well where we engage all parties,' he added. Meanwhile, in his keynote address, Tengku Zafrul said that despite the current uncertainty, ASEAN's opportunity has not disappeared, but merely evolved.

Ministry denies delays in highway project due to ‘kawtim' practice

(Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : The works ministry has denied that the delays in several projects including the Sabah Pan Borneo Expressway (LPB) were caused by the practice of 'kawtim' or awarding contracts based on political grounds. Deputy works minister Ahmad Maslan said the allegations were merely perceptions and accusations. However, he admitted that he had reprimanded contractors who failed to carry out their responsibility to maintain the existing roads during construction works, citing the example of his recent inspection of one of the packages from Kelupit to Sandakan which found that the road was not properly maintained. 'If the contractor does not maintain it properly, the Sabah Public Works Department can appoint another contractor to maintain the road and (the maintenance cost) will be deducted from the cost awarded to the relevant contractor. '… but so far, we have not done it yet. We are closely monitoring and issuing warnings so that the roads are maintained properly,' he said during a question-and-answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today. Ahmad was responding to a supplementary question by Roslan Hashim (PN-Kulim Bandar Baharu) who sought confirmation from the ministry of such claims. Responding to the original question by Matbali Musah (GRS-Sipitang) regarding the latest status in the construction of LPB, particularly in Sipitang, he said as of July 31, the physical progress of Package 1 from Sindumin to Melalia, which is 28.5km, and Package 2 (Melalia-Beaufort, which is 34.7km) had been delayed. The two packages are part of 35 work packages for the highway project, which spans a total of 706km. 'The scope of work for the package in Sipitang includes widening the road from two lanes to four lanes, the construction of new bridges, the upgrading of drainage systems, and improvements to road safety infrastructure. 'As of July 31, the physical progress of Package 1 had reached 84.22% against the original schedule of 87.43%, which is 3.21% behind schedule. Package 2 is at 58.14% compared to the target of 60.89%, with a delay of 2.75%,' he said. According to him, the main factors for the delay were unpredictable weather conditions, the prolonged rainy season, the issue of land acquisition which has now been resolved, and a shortage of manpower. 'However, the ministry is targeting both phases of the project (Phase 1A and 1B) to be completed by the first quarter of 2027 and October 2028 respectively, subject to the smooth running of work on the ground,' he said.
