Charlamagne tha God warns Republicans: Musk is ‘coming for your red states'

The Hill07-02-2025

Charlamagne tha God says it's not just Democrats who need to take a stand against Elon Musk, but Republicans, too, because the tech billionaire is 'coming for your red states.'
'Forget the Democrats. And let me talk to Republican politicians for a second,' the media personality said during a Thursday segment on Comedy Central's 'The Daily Show.'
'I get you want to cut government spending down to the bone, but remember, Musk isn't just coming for poor kids that you don't care about. He's coming for your red states,' the 'Get Honest or Die Lying' author, who was born Lenard McKelvey, said.
'He's coming for Medicare, Medicaid, farm subsidies. There is no community in America this won't impact,' Charlamagne tha God said.
'It's not a Black thing, a white thing, a gay thing, a straight thing,' he added.
President Trump tapped Musk to head the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The Tesla CEO has since vowed to cut $2 trillion from government spending.
But after Musk moved to lock federal workers out of the U.S. Agency for International Development and gained access to the Treasury Department's federal payment system, critics have questioned the legal basis for his authority.
'White conservatives, I expect more from you,' Charlamagne tha God said.
'You're just gonna roll over and let an African colonize you?' he asked of Musk, who was born in South Africa.
'Even if you don't care about we the people, don't you care about your own power? Congress is supposed to control spending, and Trump is letting Musk do it while you watch,' the 46-year-old 'Breakfast Club' co-host exclaimed.
'Don't forget, they can't vote him out of office, but they can vote you out of office,' Charlamagne tha God said in his message to Republican lawmakers.
'You think Elon cares about blowing up your political future? This man blows up his own rockets for fun,' he cracked of the SpaceX CEO.
'So Republicans, I know it's tough to stand up to Trump and Musk right now,' he said, 'but our democracy and your jobs depend on it.'

Trump casts blame for ICE protests on California Democrats

President Trump said California Democrats Gov. Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass were to blame for the unrest in Los Angeles on Saturday as protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) rattle the city. Los Angeles police have not responded to rowdy demonstrations where protestors have vandalized cars and property, according to administration officials. LAPD confirmed they were not involved. Newsom said 2,000 soldiers were being deployed by the federal government in an effort to control the protests. 'If Governor Gavin Newscum, of California, and Mayor Karen Bass, of Los Angeles, can't do their jobs, which everyone knows they can't, then the Federal Government will step in and solve the problem, RIOTS & LOOTERS, the way it should be solved!!!' Trump wrote in a Saturday Truth Social post. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt doubled down on the president's statement urging Democrats to condemn ' left wing radicals ' who were 'viciously attacking' ICE and Border Patrol in a post on X. However, Newsom said the federal response is 'inflammatory' and said deploying soldiers 'will erode public trust.' 'LA authorities are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment's notice,' Newsom wrote in a Saturday X post. 'We are in close coordination with the city and county, and there is currently no unmet need,' he added. A group of over 800 assembled to address their outrage following Friday's raids, during which 44 individuals were arrested. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security said demonstrations have spread across the country, leading to 118 arrests in Los Angeles County and 5 in New York City this week, according to NewsNation reporting. 'Outside a federal law enforcement building in New York City, more than 150 rioters erupted to interfere with ICE's immigration enforcement operations,' DHS wrote on X. 'Thankfully, unlike in Los Angeles, the local police department quickly responded to the riots. So far, NYPD [New York Police Department] has made five arrests,' the post read, adding that those who touch law enforcement officers will be prosecuted.

DOGE Staffers Fear Getting DOGE'd Themselves

WASHINGTON—In the aftermath of President Trump's epic falling out with Elon Musk, staffers within the Department of Government Efficiency face an ironic position after spending months paring back jobs and spending: They now fear being DOGE'd. The White House is publicly standing behind its work with DOGE. The future of DOGE, Trump and Musk's joint project to reshape the federal government, is one of the major looming questions in the aftermath of this past week's high-profile rupture between the U.S. president and the world's richest man, whose falling out was prompted by disagreements over the president's tax-and-spending package.
