National Lok Adalat: Over 1.93 lakh cases settled in Telangana, ₹45 crore refunded to cyber fraud victims
The National Lok Adalat held across Telangana on June 14 has delivered substantial legal and financial relief to thousands, with a total of 1,93,439 cases settled, including 6,294 related to cyber fraud.
The initiative was aimed at encouraging an amicable resolution of disputes through compounding and reducing the burden on courts.
In the run-up to the main day, police units began identifying eligible cases since June 9 and served notices to concerned parties to facilitate timely settlements.
The legal effort spanned a wide array of case categories, with notable achievements in First Information Report (FIR) compounding (22,095 cases), Disaster Management violations (8,922 cases), e-petty cases (84,601), and Motor Vehicle Act violations (71,527).
Hyderabad stood out with the highest number of settlements at 32,171 cases, followed by Rachakonda (21,397), Nalgonda (16,496), Warangal (13,651), and Ramagundam (13,316).
Meanwhile, cyber crime victims received long-awaited financial relief. A total of ₹45.33 crore was refunded in cyber fraud cases, thanks to effective coordination among the Telangana State Legal Services Authority (TGLSA), police, judiciary, and cyber crime units.
Cyberabad led in refunds with ₹13.65 crore returned in 2,276 cases, followed by Hyderabad with ₹14.54 crore across 782 cases, and Rachakonda with ₹9.98 crore in 451 cases.
The Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) and Sangareddy district also contributed, refunding ₹5.74 crore and ₹1.42 crore, respectively.
This edition of the National Lok Adalat surpassed the previous one held on March 8, where 1,83,182 compoundable cases had been settled. The rise in number reflects growing public participation and the efficiency of the system in place.

Lok Adalat refunds Rs 53 crore to 6,000 cybercrime victims in Telangana
HYDERABAD: The National Lok Adalat refunded Rs 53.5 crore to 6,848 victims of cybercrime cases on Saturday. A total of 1,93,439 compoundable cases, including cybercrime cases, were disposed of in the Lok Adalat. Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Jitender said that all police units in Telangana performed exceptionally well in disposing of 1,93,439 compoundable cases in the current National Lok Adalat held on Saturday, compared to the 1,83,182 compoundable cases disposed of in the previous National Lok Adalat held on March 8, 2025. The DGP said the top five units that performed exceptionally well in the disposal of cases during the National Lok Adalat were Hyderabad Commissionerate with 32,171 cases, Rachakonda with 21,397 cases, Nalgonda district police with 16,496 cases, Warangal Commissionerate with 13,651 cases, and Ramagundam Commissionerate with 13,316 cases. The cumulative refunds facilitated since February 2024 now stand at Rs 281.1 crore, benefitting 30,478 cybercrime victims across Telangana.

‘Smell of alcohol … doesn't mean… under influence of liquor': Court acquits man who had hit a pole
Six years after a man was held by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly driving under the influence of liquor and hitting a pole, the district court of Chandigarh acquitted him observing that 'merely because smell of alcohol was coming from the accused does not mean that he was under the influence of liquor'. Accused Akshay was booked under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act. As per the proseution, on June 9, 2019, at light point of Sector 22/23, Chandigarh, Akshay drove his vehicle bearing registration no. PB01A4282 in a drunken condition and hit the police. He was then apprehended and got medically examined and he was found under the influence of alcohol. Accordingly, a case was registered. The accused was arrested and his vehicle was taken into police possession. During trial in the court, a prosecution witness, Inspector (Retired) Rajinder Singh, testified that he along with Contstable Pardeep and Constable Vipin in an official vehicle bearing were patrolling. When they reached near Sector 22/23 light point, a car was coming from Sector-22 market driven in a rash and negligent manner. The car hit the dividing pole, Sector-22/23 light point. On confrontation, the said person told his name as Akshay and his breath was smelling of alcohol. Sector 22/23 Also, another prosecution witness, Dr Kriti Dayora, EMO, Civil Hospital, Sector 22, Chandigarh, stated that on June 9, 2019, the accused was brought in the emergency, Civil Hospital, Sector-22 for medical examination. She said Akshay had consumed alcohol but he was not under its toxic influence at the time of examination. Hearing the matter, Sachin Yadav, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), said that, '…an accused cannot be held liable under Section 185 of M.V. Act only on the basis of general opinion of the doctor. Breath Analyzer Test or blood test are mandatory before filing Kalandra against the accused u/s 185 of M.V. Act which has not been done in the present case. Merely because smell of alcohol was coming from the accused, does not mean that he was under the influence of liquor. The accused can not be convicted only on the basis of general opinion of doctor, which is not corroborated by any scientific test…' Holding that prosecution lacks evidence, the court acquitted the accused.

Nearly 2 lakh cases settled across Telangana during six-day Lok Adalat
Hyderabad: A total of 1.87 lakh cases were settled across Telangana during the six-day Lok Adalat. In addition, Rs 53 crore was refunded to victims of cybercrime. Of the settled cases, 84,601 were e-petty cases and 71,527 were related to Motor Vehicle Act violations. Of the cases dealt with by Lok Adalat, 32,171 were related to Hyderabad, followed by 21,397 in Rachakonda, according to the office of DGP. Officials said that Rs 14.54 crore was refunded in 782 cyber cases in Hyderabad. The highest amount was refunded to victims from the Hyderabad commissionerate, followed by Cyberabad with Rs 13.65 crore, and Rachakonda with Rs 9.98 crore. "All the police units in Telangana have performed exceptionally well in the disposal of compoundable cases: 193,000 were disposed of during the current National Lok Adalat held this year, compared to 183,000 during the previous year," police said. Meanwhile, of Rs 53 crore refund, TG Cyber Security Bureau officials returned Rs 5.74 crore. "The total cyber fraud refunds this year amount to Rs 97.18 crore, benefiting 11,832 victims across Telangana," police said. Since Feb 2024, a total of Rs 281.1 crore has been refunded to 30,478 cybercrime victims. "The Lok Adalat mechanism is now an institutionalised model that ensures real-time coordination with banks, digital payment service providers and law enforcement units. This streamlines dispute resolution and accelerates financial restitution for UPI fraud, investment scams and digital theft," officials said.
