Lucknow: Social welfare minister Asim Arun assured members of the transgender community that he would ensure that they get all govt facilities and basic infrastructure at the earliest.
Talking to members of the community in Basti on Wednesday, the minister said that transgender settlements would be identified in Basti and efforts would be initiated to ensure all basic facilities, including roads, water, electricity and sanitation, there. The minister promised govt funding to groups involved in activities like dairy and goat farming so that they can strengthen and expand their businesses. As part of the scheme to ensure financial independence for members of the transgender community, those interested in starting businesses such as beauty parlours, computer centres and public service centres would receive training and get access to easy loans.
Besides, a survey will be conducted to identify persons who do not have requisite identity documents. The social welfare department will then assist such persons to get the necessary paperwork done for IDs such as Aadhaar. A 'Garima Griha', similar to the one in Gorakhpur, would also be opened in Basti.
"The department of social welfare is consistently working to deliver govt schemes and resources to the transgender community. In line with this, a special dialogue focusing on the empowerment of the transgender community was organised in Basti on Wednesday. Approximately 40 members of the transgender community participated and engaged with officials from the administration, police and various departments," said a department spokesperson.

‘Speed up decision on database of fake rape complaints'

New Delhi: Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Delhi Police and state govt to expeditiously decide a plea that wants a database of those who file multiple fake complaints of sexual offences, much along the lines of a sex offenders registry. A bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela was hearing a PIL that sought its intervention in the form of directions to the police to make people aware of women who repeatedly file fake rape cases. Though declining to issue any directions, the court pointed out that the petitioner had already raised the issue by making a representation to Delhi Police and other authorities and the same should be decided by the authorities in a time bound manner. On the petitioner's request to pass a direction to the authorities concerned to maintain the database, the court said, it was the authorities' domain and "they know better how the policing is to be done" refusing to pass specific directions. "Without expressing any merit on the issues raised, the petition is disposed of with the direction to the authorities to take an informed decision on the petitioner's representation with expedition. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Magnesium Deficiency Causes Heart Attacks! The plea alleged a rampant misuse of the rape laws at the instance of a few complainants and highlighted that even courts have been forced to express concern about such fake cases.

Common Central Secretariat not just new buildings, direction of country will be set from here: PM Modi

Underlining the administrative reforms undertaken by his government over the past 11 years, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the new central secretariat building he inaugurated was not merely a building, but would be the site of deliberations for making India a developed country. 'These are not only some new buildings and ordinary infrastructure. In Amrit Kaal, the policies of Viksit Bharat will be made here, important decisions for Viksit Bharat will be taken. In the coming decades, the direction for the country will be set from here,' he said. Over the past 11 years, he said around 1,500 obsolete laws and 40,000 compliances had been done away with. He said with the use of Jan Dhan, Aadhaar and mobile, delivery of government schemes had become transparent and free of leakages. He said 10 crore fraudulent names had been removed from the list of beneficiaries of various schemes, saving Rs 4.3 lakh crore. Earlier in the day, the PM inaugurated Kartavya Bhavan 3, the first of the 10 Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings proposed by the government as a part of its Central Vista redevelopment plan. The building, located on Janpath, will house offices of the Ministries of Home Affairs, External Affairs, Rural Development, Petroleum and Natural Gas and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. In the evening, he addressed a gathering on Kartavya Path, with ministers including Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, MPs, bureaucrats and government employees in attendance. At Kartavya Path, he said it was time to change the way the government thinks of files. To the employees who will be shifting into the new building, he said if a file that affects one lakh people is delayed on their desk, it means that one lakh human days are wasted. He said important ministries of the Union government, including Home Affairs, were working out of buildings constructed by the British colonial government. 'Workers here did not have adequate space, light or ventilation,' he said. He said those working at the new complex would a good working environment. He said Union government ministries operate out of 50 different locations across Delhi, with some working from rented spaces that cost the government `1,500 crore a year in rent. The PM also said 8,000 to 10,000 employees have to go from one building to another every day, leading to higher expenditure and traffic congestion. 'The grand Kartavya Bhavan and other major infrastructure projects are not only a testament to India's pace but also a reflection of its global vision,' he said.
