Sex assault claim against late Alex Salmond is dismissed
Mr Salmond, who left the Scottish National Party in 2018 and later established the pro-independence Alba Party, suffered a heart attack and died while attending a conference in North Macedonia last October.
One month later, the police force said it had received a report of a 'non-recent sexual assault'.
It is understood that the case has been closed owing to insufficient evidence. A report was not submitted to the Crown Office.
Mr Salmond served as first minister under the SNP from 2007 to 2014 and led the party through the independence referendum.
He resigned from the party in 2018 when allegations of sexual misconduct emerged and ultimately set up the Alba Party in 2021. His latter years were, however, dominated by claims and counter-claims about his conduct.
In 2019, Mr Salmond successfully sued the Scottish government, led by his former protege Nicola Sturgeon, for its handling of an investigation into complaints of sexual harassment made against him. He was awarded £500,000 (€575,000) after the inquiry was ruled to be 'tainted with apparent bias'.
The former first minister was subsequently charged with 13 sexual offences, including attempted rape, but was acquitted on all counts after the 2020 trial.
During his evidence to the court, Mr Salmond said he had a 'sleepy cuddle' with one complainer in his official residence.
However, he described the claims made about his alleged conduct as 'deliberate fabrications for a political purpose' or 'exaggerations'.
Mr Salmond's lawyer told the court the former first minister 'could certainly have been a better man', but had not committed any crimes.
An inquiry into the government's handling of complaints against Mr Salmond found Ms Sturgeon had misled MSPs over a meeting with her predecessor in her home in 2018, but cleared her of breaching the ministerial code.

Two clips purporting to show Trump playing at his treasured Scottish course, Turnberry, prior to announcing a trade deal with the EU have prompted cheating allegations. One verified video, published by the respected international news agency Reuters, shows Trump inexplicably appearing to adjust the position of his ball on the fairway with his club. 'I can't believe we've just watched the man cheating at f---ing golf,' an eyewitness is heard saying in the background. In another clip to surface on social media − prompting immediate allegations that it may be fake − a caddie is also seen dropping Trump's ball in an ideal position. The second video appears to have been taken from inside a building showing Trump rolling up in a cart left of the fairway, with a bunker in front of him and rough to his left. As two caddies walked by, the camera captured one of them stopping, bending down slightly, and appearing to drop a ball in front of Trump. The White House has yet to comment on the veracity of the footage but viewers immediately concluded the footage was proof of Trump cheating. Allegations of Trump bending the rules in golf stretch back years. Most recently, the Hollywood actor Samuel L Jackson made allegations after being asked whether he was better at golf than Trump. 'Oh, I am, for sure,' he said. 'I don't cheat.' Another actor Anthony Anderson also told Late Night With Seth Meyers in 2016: 'Trump is a great golfer. I'm not going to say Trump cheats. His caddie cheats for him.' Asked on whether he saw Trump cheat with his own eyes, Anderson replied: 'Oh yes, several times. Several times.' Further claims, also denied by Trump, were also raised in a book, Commander in Cheat, by Rick Reilly . 'At Winged Foot, where Trump is a member, the caddies got so used to seeing him kick his ball back on to the fairway they came up with a nickname for him: Pele,' Reilly writes in the book.

A large number of police and military personnel were seen searching the grounds at the golf resort to ensure Mr Trump's safety before he teed off. Mr Trump, who made a crackdown on illegal immigration a major policy in his second term at the White House, boasted: "Last month we had nobody entering our country." A massive £5million security operation has been rolled out to ensure his safety, with around 6,000 police officers drafted in from across the UK to support the efforts. Wild moment easyJet passengers pin down man who yelled ‘I've got a bomb' on board UK flight as cops swarm plane
THIS is the moment brave passengers banded together to tackle a man shouting that he had a bomb during an easyJet flight - before claiming he wanted to "send a message" to Donald Trump. The dramatic incident on Sunday morning (July 27) - caught on film and sent to The Sun - saw the packed jet forced into an emergency landing at Glasgow Airport. He said passengers feared they'd have to land elsewhere but actually came down at Glasgow, the flight's original destination, and 'taxied really quickly and then slammed on the brakes at a remote part of the runway'. He'd admitted he didn't have a bomb. He gave up. 'We waited there on the runway for about 10 minutes, the guys still pinning him, waiting for the police - it wasn't very long but it felt like ages.' The witness, from London, and others involved were asked to stay behind to give statements and hand over video, while the other passengers were taken off the plane. In one piece of footage, as the offender is led out of the plane in handcuffs, he turns back and asks "my phone and wallet?" and someone can be heard saying "f*** off" before several passengers laugh. 'A 41-year-old man was arrested in connection and further enquiries are ongoing.' An easyJet spokesperson said: "Flight EZY609 from Luton to Glasgow this morning was met by police on arrival in Glasgow, where they boarded the aircraft and removed a passenger due to their behaviour onboard.
