Mayor warns public of fake Facebook accounts impersonating him
KUCHING (April 22): Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has issued a public warning following the emergence of a fake Facebook account impersonating him, urging residents to remain cautious when engaging online accounts.
The fraudulent account, which uses Wee's image in an MBKS corporate shirt, was created by unknown individuals attempting to deceive the public.
Wee clarified that the account has no connection to him or the Kuching South City Council (MBKS).
'This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. There have been four to five instances where irresponsible individuals have created fake accounts using my face and name,' he added in a statement today.
He thus advised the public to ignore messages or friend requests from the fake profile and not to engage with it in any way.
The case has been formally reported to Facebook for further investigation and appropriate action.
Wee also urged citizens to verify information through his official and verified social media platforms (with blue check marks), reminding everyone to be vigilant when navigating social media.
'Please do not engage with or respond to these fake accounts. Always refer to my verified page and MBKS's official social media channels for accurate information and updates,' he said.
Following that, he said the public are urged to report any suspicious accounts or online activities directly to Facebook to help curb impersonation and digital fraud.
Wee expressed his frustration over the recurring issue, stating, 'This is NOT my Facebook account again,' accompanied by distressed emojis.
He urged the public to also assist by reporting the fake account, sharing two suspicious links and appealing with a heartfelt, 'Please help me to report this FB account.'
The links he highlighted as fraudulent are https://www.facebook.com/anggun.lestary.5473 and https://www.facebook.com/share/1X11mLHW38/.
Users can report the aforementioned accounts by clicking the 'three dots' button near the top of the page to call down a drop list, and selecting 'Report profile' to report the account directly to Facebook for impersonation.

Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin KUALA LUMPUR (June 8): No official travel restrictions have been imposed on activist and graphic artist Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said. He said Fahmi Reza's name was included in the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) movement monitoring list for internal record and reference purposes due to ongoing investigations involving him. 'However, it must be emphasised that this list does not imply any restrictions but is part of the standard monitoring procedures implemented by the authorities,' he said in a statement today. Razarudin said the confusion occurred during the exit clearance process yesterday, resulting in the erroneous issuance of a movement restriction order, adding that the matter is being reviewed with appropriate steps to be taken to refine existing procedures. 'PDRM remains committed to protecting and respecting the freedom of movement of every Malaysian, and the individual concerned is free to travel in and out of the country as usual, subject to any regulations set by the Immigration Department and other relevant laws,' he said. Acoording to media reports yesterday, Fahmi Reza had claimed he was barred from travelling overseas after being blacklisted from entering Sabah recently. In a Facebook post, Fahmi Reza said he only learned of the matter after being informed by an immigration officer while at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to depart for Singapore.

Mass actions pressing for Sara Duterte trial set for June 9 to June 11
MANILA: A Catholic priest who was among the first to file an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte (pic) in December last year has announced plans for mass actions against the Senate's postponements of her trial and a proposal to dismiss her case, saying delaying the process would deny justice to Filipinos. In an interview with Church-owned Radio Veritas earlier in the week, Father Flavie Villanueva called on the senators to fulfill their constitutional duty and proceed with Duterte's impeachment trial without further ado. 'Impeachment is imperative, impeachment is a moral obligation. Impeachment delayed, justice denied,' Villanueva said. On his Facebook page on Saturday, Villanueva said there would be a protest march, a vigil and another march on the Senate from June 9 to June 11, which is the last session day of Congress when a prosecutor from the House of Representatives presents the articles of impeachment to the Senate. The activities were organised by Kalipunan ng Kilusang Masa, Nagkaisa Labor Coalition and Tindig Pilipinas, which are composed of groups and individuals who filed the first and third impeachment complaints against Duterte. Villanueva is the president and founder of the Paghilom Empower and Advocacy program which assists families of victims of former President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs. Educators, political prisoners and human rights lawyers have also joined other groups in warning senators against blocking the impeachment trial. In a statement on Friday night, the Ateneo Human Rights Center said that the postponement of the trial and Senator Ronald 'Bato' dela Rosa's proposed resolution seeking to dismiss the impeachment case reduced the constitutional mechanisms in holding public officials accountable to a 'political circus.' Not 'a single step' was taken to comply with the Senate's constitutional duty to proceed 'forthwith,' or without delay, after the impeachment complaint was filed by the House in February, it said. 'It must be stated plainly: By deliberately delaying the impeachment proceedings, the Senate is failing in its constitutional duty,' it said. The La Sallian family in the Philippines also condemned moves to block the impeachment proceedings against Duterte. 'Any attempt to suppress this process undermines the pursuit of truth, and the very foundation of democracy, the rule of law, and the principle that no one is above the law,' they said in a statement issued through De La Salle University. Political prisoners and its support group Kapatid also pressed the Senate to proceed with the impeachment trial. No travel restrictions on Fahmi Reza despite airport detention, IGP confirms
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia's top police official has confirmed that graphic designer and political activist Fahmi Reza faces no formal travel restrictions, following confusion at the airport that prevented his departure to Singapore. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain acknowledged that a procedural error occurred during immigration screening on the previous day, resulting in the activist being wrongly blocked from traveling. The incident unfolded when Fahmi attempted to catch a Singapore-bound flight from KLIA Terminal 2 to attend a punk music event. According to his Facebook post, airport immigration staff informed him that federal police headquarters had not authorised his international travel. Addressing the confusion in an official statement, Razarudin explained that while Fahmi's name appears on an internal monitoring database due to an active police inquiry, this does not constitute a travel prohibition. 'Our department has not implemented any formal travel restrictions against this individual,' the police chief stated. 'His inclusion on our monitoring system serves as an internal reference tool and represents standard law enforcement protocol.'
