Who will Bills' Damar Hamlin face for the 2024 NFL Comeback Player of the Year tonight?

USA Today06-02-2025

Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin has been named a finalist for the 2024 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award.
We will soon know his fate.
Hamlin is a finalist for the honor for a second-straight year. In 2023, Hamlin was assumed to be the winner but quarterback Joe Flacco was surprisingly picked.
Last season, while named a finalist, Hamlin did not make big contributions to the Bills. His nomination was linked to his return to Buffalo's roster following his episode with cardiac arrest. That will, and should, factor in now as well… but Hamlin has continued to add to his incredible journey in 2024.
Hamlin has earned starting snaps on the Bills defense and played well. Hamlin has recorded his first-career interception this past season, too.
The winner will be announced tonight, Thursday Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. during the NFL Awards ceremony.
Here are all of the finalists for the honor in 2024:

Denny Hamlin will miss NASCAR's first Cup race in Mexico following birth of son

NASCAR star Denny Hamlin got an early Father's Day Gift. Hamlin announced that he will miss the Cup Series' first ever race in Mexico this weekend following the birth of his son. Hamlin and fiancée Jordan Fish also share daughters Taylor James, 12, and Molly Gold Hamlin, 7. Advertisement "We are happy to announce the birth of our son," Hamlin announced on social media on June 12. "Everyone is doing well. My main priority is to be here at home for Jordan and our family over the next few days when she is able to go home and we transition to life as a family of five." Hamlin previously hinted at skipping the Viva México 250 earlier this week as his family awaited baby Hamlin's arrival, citing the distance between his North Carolina home and Mexico City as his main concern. "Ultimately I need to be there for her," Hamlin said during a June 10 interview on SiriusXM NASCAR. "I'm just going to make sure I spend the proper time with her. The racing will come second this week.' Advertisement Hamlin is expected to return to racing next weekend. He signed off his birth announcement, writing, "See you guys in Pocono," referring to the Great American Getaway 400 at Pocono Raceway on June 22. It's been an eventful month for Hamlin. Not only did the Hamlin family welcome baby No. 3, he also picked up his third NASCAR Cup Series victory of the season in the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway on June 8. Hamlin has 57 wins in his Cup Series career, which ranks 11th on the all-time list. While a championship has eluded him, he finished runner-up in 2010 and third three times (2006, 2014 and 2021). Drivers departed for Mexico City on Thursday with practice for the Viva Mexico 250 beginning Saturday ahead of the Sunday's June 15 Cup race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Advertisement Ryan Truex will drive the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota in Mexico City, the team announced on June 12, stating that JGR intends to apply for "a waiver to maintain his status for the 2025 Playoffs." NASCAR classifies the birth of a child as an exemption to its Playoff Waiver System, meaning Hamlin should be eligible to compete for the 2025 Cup Series championship later this year. Denny Hamlin reveals how NASCAR In-Season Challenge will influence his racing strategy

Denny Hamlin is one of the winningest drivers in NASCAR Cup Series history, but he doesn't have a championship on his Hall of Fame resume. While every point is valuable during the regular season, it appears the NASCAR In-Season Challenge will have some influence on how he races. On Monday's episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin stated that drivers will very much care about the NASCAR In-Season Challenge once it starts on June 28 in Atlanta. He highlighted that motivation, sharing how matchups will influence his strategy on road courses. I just want to beat that guy. Where we think, 'Oh well, maybe we'll stay out and get 3 stage points here.' Hell no. I want to do whatever I have to do to beat that guy. So, we're gonna care.' Denny Hamlin stats ( 443 points, 2 wins, 7 top 10s, 6 top 5s, 2 DNFs, 450 laps led, 12.357 average starting position, 14.357 average finishing position Related: Insider reveals Denny Hamlin's future with Joe Gibbs Racing As described by the field for the In-Season Challenge is comprised of 32 drivers in a single-elimination format over five races. While the field of 32 (top 32 points leaders) was set following the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville, the seedings will be determined by the next three races – Michigan International Speedway, Autódromo Hermanos Rodriguez and Pocono Raceway – with drivers seeded by how they finish in those three races. Advertisement Ahead of the Cracker Barrel 400, the majority of Cup Series drivers didn't express a ton of enthusiasm for the in-season tournament. However, Hamlin expects that to change ahead of the first race on June 28, entirely because the winner of the NASCAR In-Season Challenge gets $1 million. While the focus would normally center on the battle for first, the head-to-head matchups created by the tournament mean that two drivers battling in the middle of the field will be competing to advance to the next round. In Hamlin's case, his approach would mean sacrificing stage points on a road course to ensure he snags a better finishing position than the driver he is seeded against in the NASCAR In-Season Challenge. Whoever advances, the $1 million winner will be determined on July 27 in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Denny Hamlin to miss NASCAR's first international race after birth of son

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Denny Hamlin will miss NASCAR's first international race of the modern era to remain in North Carolina following the birth of his child. Ryan Truex will replace him Sunday in Mexico City. Advertisement 'See you guys in Pocono,' Hamlin posted on social media. 'We are happy to announce the birth of our son. Everyone is doing well. My main priority is to be here at home for Jordan and our family over the next few days when she is able to go home and we transition to life as a family of five.' Hamlin and fiancee Jordan Fish now have three children, two daughters and a son born Wednesday. Hamlin had been on baby watch the last 12 days as Fish went nearly two weeks past her predicted due date. He had planned to get out of the car at Michigan last Sunday if she went into labor early in the race, but when the first stage passed with no word, he went on to score his third win of the season. The victory was the 57th of his career and made him the all-time winningest driver at Joe Gibbs Racing. Through 15 races this season, Hamlin ranks third in the overall Cup Series standings. Advertisement Truex, younger brother of former JGR full-time driver Martin Truex Jr., is Gibbs' reserve driver. His last Cup Series start was in 2014 and he has 26 starts at NASCAR's top level. Hamlin will need NASCAR to grant him a waiver to be eligible to compete in the playoffs for the Cup Series championship. NASCAR during the offseason tightened the rules for granting waivers, but said it would permit a driver skipping an event for the birth of a child. The 44-year-old Hamlin will snap his streak of 406 consecutive starts. Hamlin last missed a race in 2014 at California Speedway because of an eye irritation. ___ AP auto racing:
