Australian teenage sprinter Gout Gout has crushed the 200-metre field in his first senior race abroad, bettering his own national record by two hundredths of a second to finish in 20.02 seconds at the Ostrava Golden Spike.
The 17-year-old high school student ran a textbook race in his European debut at the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event in the Czech Republic on Tuesday, crossing the line 0.17 seconds ahead of Cuban Reynier Mena, while Briton Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake (20.60) was third.
'I feel good. New personal best, new national record in my first European race,' the boy from Queensland told reporters.
Gout is being compared with Usain Bolt as he beat the Jamaican icon's time at Ostrava. Bolt finished his first 200m race at the event in 20.28 in 2006, but went on to win three Olympic 200-metre golds and set a new world record of 19.19 seconds.
'I don't feel any pressure. Because as soon as I step out on that track, it's just me by myself and what I've got to do – my favourite thing, and that's to run,' Gout said of the expectations.
'So, I just go out there and run and nothing stops me from doing that … Get some more races in me and [the 20-second barrier] will drop for sure.'
Gout made headlines in December when he broke Peter Norman's national record that had stood for 56 years at 20.04.
He ran a 19.84-second 200 and 9.99 seconds in the 100m at the Australian national championships in Perth in April but a strong tailwind rendered both illegal.
Even without those two sub-20 times, he's still in the top seven all-time for Under-20s, a list that includes Bolt.
Gout was born in Ipswich, near Brisbane, in Queensland state. His parents are South Sudanese immigrants who moved to Australia in 2005.
His performances were strong enough, however, to earn him a spot on Australia's team for the World Championships in Tokyo in September.

Qatar spikers beat Australia ahead of AVC Nations Cup quarter-finals
Tribune News Network Doha Defending champions Qatar warmed up with a 3-0 win over Australia in their 'opening' match of the AVC Men's Volleyball Nations Cup in Manama, Bahrain, on Thursday. Qatar won the three sets against Australia 25-22, 25-21 and 25-22 to top Group B. Raimi (13) and Ibrahim (10) stood out for Al Annabi while Flowerday (10) and Pope (3) excelled for Australia. In the quarter-finals, to be played on June 21, Qatar will meet Vietnam while Australia will face South Korea. Standing at number 24 in the FIVB World Ranking, Qatar are also the highest ranked team among all AVC Nations Cup participants. The Aussies are ranked 33rd. Qatar's scheduled opening match in the tournament was to be against Kazakhstan but it cancelled following the latter's official withdrawal. Qatar decided to maintain the pre-set preparation schedule to avoid any disruption to the team's rhythm or mental focus. Australia's Smith set to miss West Indies Test opener due to injured finger
Agencies Australia batter Steve Smith is set to miss the opening Test of their tour of West Indies with the finger injury he sustained in the World Test Championship final, reports Smith, 36, sustained a compound dislocation to the little finger of his right hand while fielding in the slips on day three of the match at Lord's, having dropped an edge from Temba Bavuma off the bowling of left-arm quick Mitchell Starc. The first of the three-match Test series between Australia and West Indies starts in Barbados on 25 June. Australia captain Pat Cummins said Smith's mood was 'positive' after the injury but his prospects of playing at the the Kensington Oval are slim. 'I think it's somewhere around 10 days to two weeks, and then maybe you try and bat with a splint and see how that looks. 'So I think it's a bit of a wait and see. I'd say first Test maybe unlikely and then kind of go from there, but it's a bit early just to tell.' Smith got his hands to the ball but shelled the catch, then immediately left the field in noticeable discomfort before he was taken to hospital for treatment. Smith made his Test debut for Australia in 2010 and has scored 10,350 runs in 208 innings at an average of 56.55.
