UBS, Pictet report data leak after cyberattack on provider, client data unaffected
[ZURICH] Swiss banks UBS and Pictet on Wednesday (Jun 18) said they had suffered a data leak due to a cyberattack on a provider in Switzerland that did not compromise client information, although a report said thousands of UBS workers' data was affected.
Swiss newspaper Le Temps said that files containing details of tens of thousands of UBS employees were stolen from the Baar-based business service company Chain IQ, whose website lists KPMG and Mizuho among its clients.
'A cyberattack at an external supplier has led to information about UBS and several other companies being stolen. No client data has been affected,' UBS said.
'As soon as UBS became aware of the incident, it took swift and decisive action to avoid any impact on its operations.'
Chain IQ said it and 19 other companies were targeted in the attack, resulting in leaked data being published online on the darknet – a part of the Internet not accessible through standard search engines.
Steps and countermeasures were promptly taken and the situation was contained, it said in a statement.
Chain IQ, which said the data was published on the afternoon of Jun 12, said that it could not provide any information on potential ransom demands or interactions with the attackers for security and investigative reasons.
Private bank Pictet said the information stolen from the incident did not contain its client data and was limited to invoice information with some of the bank's suppliers, such as technology providers and external consultants.
Pictet said it took data breaches seriously and had protocols and agreements in place to stop unauthorised access. REUTERS

The job fair at Changi Airport Terminal 1 is open to all Jetstar Asia staff and will run from June 17 to June 19. It features more than 450 roles, including pilots, cabin crew, customer service, engineering, and safety and quality assurance, the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) said on June 18. Jetstar Asia, a Singapore-based low-cost airline, will shut after more than 20 years in operation, it said on June 11. The airline will continue to operate flights out of Singapore for seven weeks, with a progressively reduced schedule until its final day of operations on July 31. Over 500 Singapore-based employees will be laid off when the airline closes. The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group said on June 13 that it would create positions for retrenched Jetstar Asia employees across its airlines, including 100 jobs for pilots and 200 jobs for cabin crew. NTUC said SIA and its low-cost arm Scoot are 'primarily supporting' the recruitment efforts for pilots and cabin crew, and will be at the job fair on all three days. A range of other employers – 38 companies in total will be at the job fair on different days – include plane-maker Airbus and its aircraft component and service subsidiary Satair, airport operator Changi Airport Group, inflight caterer and ground handler Sats, public transport operator SMRT and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS). The job fair aims to provide direct support to Jetstar Asia employees, including career coaching, skills upgrading and employability assistance, and allow them to tap the labour movement's unions for support, said NTUC. In a Facebook post on June 18, labour chief Ng Chee Meng said he had visited the job fair at Terminal 1 to speak to retrenched Jetstar Asia employees. 'They shared their concerns and uncertainties about what lies ahead and I completely understand the anxiety that they feel,' Mr Ng said. 'I want to assure them that they are not alone.' Mr Jerome Tan, 37, who works in flight operations, visited the job fair on June 17. Those affected by the closure of Jetstar Asia are 'coping with it in their own perspective, speed and pace', he told The Straits Times. Mr Tan, who has worked at Jetstar Asia for nine years, said he has applied for a job at SIA. 'I think the common approach would be to (go to) Scoot or SIA' because staff can still be based in Singapore. He added that the job fair had booths where Jetstar Asia staff could scan a QR code to find out more about the roles on offer. While he did not see the closure coming, he said he is not taking it badly, preferring to see it as a business decision. A cabin crew member who asked not to be named said she was 'shocked' when she heard about the airline's decision to stop operations. She was on annual leave at the time. The 24-year-old has worked at Jetstar Asia for nearly three years, and has applied for cabin crew positions at SIA and Scoot a few days after the closure. Another member of the cabin crew, who also did not want to be named, said she plans to leave the aviation industry for hotel management. She was travelling in Taiwan when she heard about the airline's closure. The job fair was organised by the NTUC Aerospace and Aviation cluster, NTUC's Employment and Employability Institute, the Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers' Union, CAAS and Jetstar Asia. Centurion's REIT listing signals hope for Singapore IPOs
SINGAPORE: Singapore-based Centurion Corporation announced plans to list a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) on the Singapore Exchange (SGX) Mainboard on June 11. This can catalyse more initial public offerings (IPOs) in Singapore's stagnant share market. Subsequent to the announcement, Centurion's shares rose 3.4% to S$1.53 on June 11, a record high. About 2.4 million shares of the company changed hands, indicating strong investor interest. The SGX and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) are currently reviewing Centurion's submissions. The decision to list the REIT comes amid MAS efforts to boost share sales and liquidity in Singapore's equity market. The proposed REIT is backed by DBS Group and UBS. It has a portfolio of 37 accommodation assets, which includes 69,929 beds as of March 31, 2025. Focused on student and worker housing, it aims to capitalise on Singapore's infrastructure growth and the post-pandemic surge in student enrollment. At present, MAS is leading efforts to revive Singapore's equity market. The stock market has encountered issues like low liquidity and a high number of delistings (20 in 2024 compared to four IPOs). There is also an ongoing undervaluation of small- and mid-cap stocks. In February 2025, MAS's Equities Market Review Group, chaired by Minister Chee Hong Tat, launched a S$5 billion Equity Market Development Programme (EQDP). Seeking to boost liquidity and attract growth enterprises, it's among the different measures meant to bring firms back to Singapore's stock market. Singapore has the third-largest REIT market worldwide, after Tokyo and New York, with 40 S-REITs and property trusts. Together, they have a market capitalisation of about S$100 billion (US$74 billion). This accounts for 12% of SGX's total market cap. If successful, Centurion's REIT listing could pave the way for more listings, joining NTT's proposed data centre REIT listing. If both go through, they are likely to revive investor confidence and share trading in the Singapore market. The city-state's equity capital markets struggle with a lack of domestic capital anchors. In comparison, the bourses of Hong Kong, Sydney, Tokyo, and Kuala Lumpur are anchored allocations to domestic equities from public sector investors. Pension funds in Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, and Hong Kong actively channel capital into local equities through a network of fund managers. Additionally, Malaysian insurers invest in local stocks. All this serves to create a sustainable cycle of institutional liquidity, stabilises the market and sustains investor confidence. This structural gap in Singapore's equity markets has driven weak IPO activity, market fragmentation, and losses in investor confidence.
