TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center is watching the waters surrounding Florida for potential development.
An area of low pressure may form off the southeastern coast of the U.S. and has the chance to develop as it moves over the Florida peninsula and into the Gulf next week, NHC forecasters said.

Storms cause damage in Southaven, flooding in East Memphis
MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Brief but intense thunderstorms on Sunday knocked down trees and may have overturned a truck in Southaven, and created flash flooding in East Memphis, according to photos and videos. In Southaven, several trees and lights were down on Airport Industrial Drive near Airways and Stateline Road. A tractor trailer appeared to be overturned. There were not yet any official wind measurements, but radar suggests winds may have been around 60 mph in the Southaven area when the damage occurred. In East Memphis, Poplar Avenue had deep standing water near Clark Tower. Check the latest forecasts from WREG Weather Radar is estimating 1-2 inches of rain fell in parts of Shelby and DeSoto counties Saturday. Ruidoso area under flood watch through Monday evening
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Ruidoso area is under a flood watch through Monday evening, July 14, the Village of Ruidoso said on social media. The National Weather Service issued the flood watch at noon Sunday and it is in effect through 9 p.m. Monday, the Village said. Ruidoso was hit by devastating flash flooding that killed three people on July 8 and damaged homes, businesses and vehicles. The Village said Sunday that 'excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.' 'Showers and thunderstorms will develop across the Sacramento Mountains late in the morning peaking during the early to mid-afternoon hours. Storm motion will be extremely slow and erratic. Wet soil from this weekend's shower and thunderstorm activity along with heavy rainfall rates of up to 3 inches an hour will help promote the potential for flash flooding and debris flow on the Ruidoso area burn scars,' the Village said. The Village also said the Disaster Relief Center has been relocated to Ruidoso Middle School, 124 Warrior Drive, from ENMU-Ruidoso, 709 Mechem Dr. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Disaster Relief Center is set up on the right side of the school. FEMA approved Camp Mystic appeals to remove buildings from flood zone
The Federal Emergency Management Agency approved appeals from Camp Mystic to remove several structures from a flood zone over a decade before extreme flooding in Central Texas swamped the Christian girls camp and killed 27 campers and counselors, according to FEMA records. In 2013, the agency exempted 15 Camp Mystic buildings near the Guadalupe River from a Special Flood Hazard Area — a region where a '100-year flood' has a 1 percent chance of occurring in any given year.
