Romance in the capital: The designers happy to hang in Canberra
After 20 years of creating intricate and amusing clothing that defies the churn and burn of fast fashion, and delights the likes of Cate Blanchett and Rose Byrne, design duo Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales now have their portrait by Samuel Hodge hanging at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra.
Hanging in Canberra is rarely the dream of fashion designers, who prefer pictures of Paris and Milan for their mood boards. Being preserved in portraiture would never have occurred to either Plunkett or Sales when they met in 2002, while studying at East Sydney TAFE's Fashion Design Studio.
'I find the idea of just a normal portrait a bit bizarre, especially when we feel like we're so young in our career,' says Sales, in front of the artwork revealed on Friday. 'I would say we're halfway through our career, but who knows?'
Plunkett adds: 'It's all rather humbling, but when you're hanging beside Nick Cave, it really doesn't get much better.'
For 20 years, the Romance Was Born designers have been the darlings of dressers who appreciate clothing layered with meaning and emotion. Turning their back on internships with John Galliano in Paris to start their label, they have attracted artistic appreciation rather than the financial success of Zimmermann or the label recognition of Aje and Camilla.

'The other day, I was in an Uber with Anna, and I was like, if we just made clothes and sold them like everyone else, our lives would be so much easier,' Sales says. 'But it's just not how we work. We have these big ideas, and we want to follow them.'
It's the exact reason why National Portrait Gallery director Bree Pickering welcomed Hodge's collage, interweaving the brand's history with images of Plunkett and Sales, into the collection.

He will then head east for two shows in each of Sydney, Brisbane, and Melbourne, before concluding the all-new tour with a one-off performance in Adelaide on March 5. Sheeran's forthcoming project Play — his eighth studio album — is due for release on September 12, with tracks Old Phone, Azizam and Sapphire already released. The album signals the conclusion of his three-year, 168-show Mathematics Tour that breached Aussie shores in 2023. 'Starting a brand new tour next year called the LOOP tour. New stage, new tricks, new set up, new songs and all the classics added in,' Sheeran told fans upon the tour announcement. Sheeran has impressively sold in excess of 2.5 million tickets in his previous jaunts through Australia and New Zealand. General sale tickets will begin from 3pm WST July 29, with pre-sale for Telstra and Frontier members staggered from July 25.

REVEALED: Punters' choice to take home the Gold Logie
There are seven nominees in this years Gold Logie awards, with each putting forward a strong case to take home the most coveted award in Australian television; but who have the punters tipped to take out the top gong this year? With anticipation for the 65th TV Week Logie Awards reaching its boiling point, the question on everyone's mind is who will take out this years Gold Logie. The speculation continues to build on who looks likely, but the sports books have a clear leader in the seven horse race, according to betting odds for the top prize. The favourite to have their name called on stage this year is non-other than Home and Away's Lynne McGranger coming in with the shortest odds out of the pool paying $1.57. I'm a Me Out of Here!'s Julia Morris enters the pool with her fourth nomination, but at $11 the punters don't favour the hosts chances to finally capture the coveted award. While 2023 winner and Channel Seven's Sonia Kruger has the longest odds to come home a winner at $17, despite the range for her hosting nominations, including The Voice, Dancing With The Stars and last years Logies Red Carpet Show. Despite who the punters tip, it's all up in the air until the eventual winners will be announced at the Logie Awards on Sunday, August 3.
