Viral video sparks attack at guard post over TikTok live remarks
SUNGAI BULOH: A 47-year-old man was allegedly assaulted by a group of individuals at a guard post in Bandar Seri Coalfields after his remarks during a TikTok Live session went viral and sparked outrage.
The incident, captured in two widely circulated video clips, took place at the security booth along Jalan BSC 4B/4 in the early hours of May 25.
The videos, which surfaced on social media, showed chaotic moments as several men confronted and attacked the victim.
Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said preliminary checks indicated that the attack stemmed from dissatisfaction over the victim's comments made during a TikTok live broadcast.
"In the video, the man had reportedly advised the public, without naming anyone, to avoid fights, not behave like gangsters, and to engage in civil political discourse without provocation," he said.
"These statements are believed to have offended certain parties, leading to a provocative and physical retaliation against the complainant at his residence," said Hafiz in a statement.
Police confirmed receiving a report at Saujana Utama station from the victim shortly after the incident, which occurred around 12.57am.
Hafiz said the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting, which carries a maximum sentence of two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
Authorities have also urged the public not to circulate the video further to avoid speculation that could compromise the ongoing investigation or cause unnecessary alarm.
"Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the investigating officer Inspector Azraai Mohamad Amin, at 018-9696941," Supt Mohd Hafiz added.
