Sony Sets Austin Butler Crime Thriller ‘Caught Stealing' for August, Pushes ‘Insidious 6' to Fall 2026
Sony Pictures has set Darren Aronofsky's upcoming thriller 'Caught Stealing' for release on August 29 while moving the previously slated sixth installment in Blumhouse's 'Insidious' series to August 21, 2026.
Based on the book of the same name by Charlie Huston, 'Caught Stealing' will star Austin Butler as Hank Thompson, a burned-out former baseball player, who is unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of '90s NYC. Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Matt King and Bad Bunny also star.
Sony released the previous installment in the 'Insidious' series, 'The Red Key,' through Screen Gems in July 2023. The film grossed $189 million worldwide against a $16 million budget.
Both 'Caught Stealing' and 'Insidious 6' will be released in the end-of-summer period where thrillers and horror films tend to fill the release slate. There are no wide releases currently set for release alongside 'Caught Stealing,' with films set for release earlier in August including Universal/DreamWorks' sequel to 'The Bad Guys' and an untitled Paul Thomas Anderson film from Warner Bros. that will have Imax support.

How to watch the June 2025 PlayStation State of Play If you want to catch the show live, you'll be able to watch it on either PlayStation's YouTube or Twitch channel. What to expect from the June 2025 PlayStation State of Play Sony is being vague about what exactly it's showing this time. All it says in its blog post announcing the stream is that it will show off PS5 games from creators around the world. PlayStation VR2 isn't mentioned, so don't expect to see any new VR games. So, what's likely to show up? With Death Stranding 2: On the Beach slated to launch later this month, we wouldn't be surprised to see one more trailer hyping it up. Marathon is likely to appear as well considering that Sony owns Bungie, though there are rumors swirling that its upcoming release could be delayed. And of course, Ghost of Yotei should get a spotlight here considering that it's the PS5's big fall exclusive. Other than that, the field is wide open. This has historically been a very exciting show for Sony, as it usually nabs big reveals from third-party partners like Square Enix and Capcom. There's a good chance we see something like Resident Evil 9 here, giving us a big shocker before Summer Game Fest. It's possible that Sony has its own surprises in store too, as we know that Marvel's Wolverine is next in the pipeline. We're overdue for a update on that one, so it could pop up as a grand reveal. Danny Boyle confirms Cillian Murphy will appear in the '28 Years Later' sequel
The upcoming sequel to the zombie horror franchise "28 Days Later" won't feature Cillian Murphy, but director Danny Boyle has promised there's more Cillian to come. After " 28 Years Later" opens in theaters on June 20, Boyle will step aside for the next installment, "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple," which will be directed by Nia DaCosta (2021's "Candyman") and premiere on January 16, 2026. The film will mark the first appearance of Murphy's character Jim since the original 2002 movie, which is set in a dystopian United Kingdom in amid zombie apocalypse caused by a virus. "She gets a bit of Cillian at the end," Boyle told BI of DaCosta while speaking about her helming "The Bone Temple." "All I can say is you have to wait for Cillian, but hopefully he will help us get the third film financed." That's right, Boyle has plans for another "28" movie after "The Bone Temple," and he's on board to direct it — though Sony, which is releasing "28 Years" and "The Bone Temple," hasn't committed yet. Sony did not respond to comment for this story. "28 Days Later" was a sensation upon its release in 2002, earning over $85 million worldwide on a budget of roughly $10 million. The film was credited as groundbreaking, both as one of the first mainstream movies to be shot with digital cameras, and for how it redefined the zombie genre with fast-moving undead characters (as opposed to the quiet creep of zombies in "Night of the Living Dead"). But the journey to continue the franchise has been an arduous one for Boyle. When the "28 Days Later" sequel "28 Weeks Later" was released five years after, Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland were not involved. Boyle and Garland (who, since writing "28 Days Later," has gone on to direct "Ex Machina," "Civil War," and "Warfare") spent years working on a third movie. At the same time, producers of the original were fighting over the franchise rights. By 2022, around the time of the original movie's 20th anniversary, the rights reverted back to the producers, and after a bidding war, Sony came out on top, agreeing to release "28 Years Later," a sequel, and, possibly, a third movie, making a new trilogy. "28 Years Later" focuses on an island community in the UK that has survived the virus for decades. It stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, and Ralph Fiennes. Speaking with BI, Boyle was transparent that he's using Oscar-winner Murphy's celebrity as a bargaining chip to get the third movie made. But Murphy has already helped Boyle get "28 Years Later" without even showing up on screen. The Oscar-winning director said that when he had to sell Sony on his idea of shooting some of the movie's footage with iPhones, it was a promise that Murphy would be involved that got his idea to use camera phones approved. "You promise them Cillian Murphy, that's quite a deflection of any technical concerns, they soon forget," Boyle said with a laugh. "Yeah, we nakedly used that to get our own way. What better promise could you make?"

Sony Reveals Last-Minute PlayStation Showcase Ahead Of Summer Game Fest
Just when it seemed like Sony might be ditching the not-E3 festivities this year, it announced a new 40-minute State of Play will be airing tomorrow on June 4. The PlayStation showcase arrives in a packed week that includes the launch of the Switch 2, Summer Game Fest Live on Friday, and the Xbox summer showcase on Sunday. It feels like the gaming days of yore. Almost. What can we expect from this new State of Play livestream? Sony was cagier than usual. 'Watch live for news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5,' the PS Blog reads. 'The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe.' Normally the company calls out VR games as well, so maybe this means the show will be strictly focused on upcoming PlayStation 5 releases. Despite Grand Theft Auto 6 being delayed until May 2026, it's becoming a decently packed fall for Sony between first-party exclusives like Ghost of Yotei and Marathon and third-party blockbusters like Borderlands 4. Mafia: The Old Country and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater also drop in August. Could there be a few more big fall releases that we haven't officially heard about yet? Resident Evil 9 is already heavily rumored to be appearing at Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest. Maybe it'll get previewed first by Sony. The rest of Sony's first-party plans remain up in the air. Following the cancellation of a number of live-service projects, including games being worked on at Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games, as well as the recent apparent setback of FairGame$, it's not clear what releases PlayStation Studios might have ready to go in the next 12 months. Insomniac'sWolverine game was first revealed back in 2021 but lost its creative director just last year. Maybe we'll see more of Housemarque's Saros, a new sci-fi roguelite in the vein of Returnal.
