Christian body seeks protection from YSRCP leaders
Prof Mosiganti asserted that the Christian community, feeling neglected by the previous YSRCP government, is now gravitating towards the Chandrababu Naidu-led administration.
To counter this shift and retain the support of the 25 per cent Christian population, the YSRCP leaders are reportedly orchestrating complaints against churches through non-Christians.
'YSRCP leaders are having non-Christians file complaints against churches, citing reasons like lack of permission for churches or the use of loudspeakers,' Mosiganti claimed. 'They are then getting churches closed down in some places. This is being falsely propagated as an increase in attacks on churches under the new coalition government, and the public needs to understand this,' he said. Prof Mosiganti emphasised the positive role of spirituality in society, stating, 'Spirituality guides people to live with peace, contentment, balance, and happiness, without causing harm like alcohol, drugs, prostitution, or smoking.'
He advocated for the presence of spiritual centres of all religions in every village, suggesting that both the public and governments should encourage this.

Health, Quality In Focus In Andhra Pradesh's New Liquor Policy
The Andhra Pradesh government is set to introduce a new liquor policy from September 1, with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu emphasising a shift in focus from revenue generation to public safety. The announcement follows a high-level review meeting of the Excise Department held at the Secretariat on Monday. The quality of liquor and health concerns regarding safety had become huge issues during the previous YSRCP government. The new policy, based on recommendations from a cabinet sub-committee, is designed to ensure the availability of quality liquor and mitigate the health risks associated with alcohol consumption. The Chief Minister highlighted that promoting beverages with lower alcohol content could be a key strategy in this regard. He also recalled the previous administration's tenure, which he said was marked by the availability of poor-quality liquor that had a devastating impact on many families. A key change in the new policy, which will replace the one expiring on August 31, is a lottery system for allotting bar licenses. The government currently has 840 bars operating in the state. The cabinet sub-committee has proposed a tiered annual license fee structure based on population: Rs 35 lakh for areas with less than 50,000 people, Rs 55 lakh for areas with population up to 5 lakh, and Rs 75 lakh for those above 5 lakh. To qualify for the lottery, a minimum of four applications will be required for each bar license. In a move aimed at social inclusion, the Chief Minister has directed that 10 per cent of all bar licenses be reserved for Backward Classes (BC) communities. This mirrors a similar reservation policy already in place for liquor retail outlets in the state. Officials estimate that the new policy will generate approximately Rs 700 crore in revenue from application and license fees. During the meeting, officials also provided a progress report on efforts to curb illegal liquor. They informed the Chief Minister that 12 districts in the state have been declared completely Illicitly Distilled (ID) liquor-free, with plans to extend this to an additional eight districts this month and the remaining six by September. Officials also noted that the availability of quality, reasonably priced liquor in Andhra Pradesh has led to a significant increase in sales near border areas, while sales in neighbouring states have declined. This, they explained, has also helped in curbing the illegal transportation of liquor from other states.

BJP leader alleges SDPI, Jamaat infiltration in Church protests in Kerala
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state vice-president Shone George on Monday voiced concern over what he described as the 'infiltration' of groups such as the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) and Jamaat-e-Islami into protest programmes organised by Churches in Kerala. Shone told the TNIE that he had received clear evidence from trusted intelligence sources confirming the presence of these groups in the Church-led protests. Addressing a press conference, Shone alleged that elements of SDPI and Jamaat-e-Islami had participated in protests held in Kannur, Thalassery, Kozhikode, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Angamaly, Tiruvalla and Mananthavady in connection with the arrest of two Malayali nuns in Chhattisgarh recently. Noting that these groups had previously targeted Christian churches and leaders, Shone said their sudden support for the Church was 'not with good intentions'. He clarified that the BJP respected protests led by the Church, but warned that such infiltrations were 'dangerous'. He said the BJP had taken a 'humanitarian stance' on the nuns' issue. Shone accuses Left of neglecting Christians Shone asserted that the nuns' release was made possible due to the neutrality maintained by the BJP and the Chhattisgarh government. Criticising the Left, Shone accused the party of long neglecting Christians. He recalled that during the EMS government, the Left had filed an affidavit stating that Christians should not be given the same treatment as minorities. Shone also alleged that the Pinarayi government had removed the rule requiring Christians to be part of the Minority Commission and had appealed to the Supreme Court against the verdict mandating that minority scholarships be proportional to population. He contrasted the swift implementation of the Paloli Committee report for the backward sections of the Muslim community with the delay in publishing the J B Koshy report -- commissioned before the last assembly elections to address issues faced by backward sections of the Christian community -- which he said remained missing even after four years. He questioned whether the Pinarayi government dares to implement the Koshy report. Asserting that Kerala's Christians will no longer remain 'political slaves of the Congress', Shone vowed that the BJP would expose 'wolves in sheep's clothing' across the political spectrum.

Venkatesh Naidu in spotlight as cash bundle videos go viral
Tirupati: Cherukuru Venkatesh Naidu, already known to the public as a key figure in the ongoing liquor scam probe, is once again in the spotlight after fresh videos and photographs surfaced on Sunday, revealing details of his luxurious lifestyle. Venkatesh, named as Accused No 34 (A-34) in the case, was earlier seen in a now-viral video counting currency bundles reportedly worth Rs 35 crore, suspected to be part of the liquor scam proceeds. The cash was seen stacked in large bundles, including Rs 2,000 denomination notes, and was discovered during the Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry. In the latest development, visuals have emerged showing Venkatesh Naidu travelling in a private jet, mingling with film actors, and moving around in high-end cars. One video shows him arriving at an airport in a luxury vehicle and walking straight onto the runway to board a private aircraft. Upon landing, he was seen getting into a car fitted with a red beacon, which is typically reserved for VIP protocol, hinting at the level of influence and access he enjoyed. The videos have since gone viral on social media, with the public reacting sharply, asking, 'Is this how they enjoyed the liquor money looted from the people?' Earlier, SIT had uncovered a video during the investigation showing Naidu managing a cash stash at a safe house, allegedly acting as the in-charge of the location where the scam money was stored. In the video, he was seen counting the bundles and preparing them for distribution. The latest leak of his videos and photos further illustrates the extravagant lifestyle funded through alleged illegal proceeds. Surprisingly, it was learnt that the video was found in Venkatesh's mobile phone itself. SIT sources confirmed that Venkatesh Naidu is a close aide of YSRCP senior leader and former Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy. The two are believed to share an inseparable political association. During the 2024 general elections, Chevireddy contested from the Ongole Lok Sabha constituency as YSRCP candidate, and Venkatesh Naidu filed a nomination as an independent from the same seat. Though his nomination was later rejected it was widely felt that he filed it as a dummy for Chevireddy. SIT has noted that Chevireddy remained in constant contact with Naidu throughout the process and was actively involved in directing the movement and delivery of scam-related funds. Investigators have concluded that Naidu played a crucial role in ensuring that the money was transported and handed over as per Chevireddy's instructions. Venkatesh was said to have born in Nandyal and educated in Hyderabad, while his background has drawn renewed attention. Despite his apparent access to vast sums of money, Naidu in his 2024 election affidavit declared an annual income of only Rs 4.95 lakh for the financial year 2022–23. He reported assets worth Rs 10.70 lakh, including bank balances and cash, and claimed he owned no immovable property. The sharp contrast between his declared financial status and the opulence seen in the videos has sparked widespread outrage online. The revelations have intensified public scrutiny of the liquor scam and its political connections, as well as raised further questions about how such levels of luxury and access were possible for someone with officially modest means. The SIT continues to examine the deeper network behind the scandal.
