Over 5 million devotees expected in Mathura for Janmashtami, security stepped up

District Magistrate Chandraprakash Singh and Senior Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said that while around 4.2 million devotees visited Mathura during Janmashtami last year, the number is expected to cross five million this time.
Preparations and security arrangements are being made accordingly at all pilgrimage centres, including Mathura, Vrindavan, Barsana, Gokul, Nandgaon, Govardhan, and Mahavan.
At the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple complex alone, 150 CCTV cameras have been installed, with over 100 more positioned in the surrounding areas. For the first time, AI-enabled drone cameras will also be deployed for surveillance, the officials said. Police personnel will be stationed across the city, especially at major temples and sensitive locations.
Civic works such as cleaning, road repairs, beautification of routes, and decoration of intersections are being carried out on a war footing, the officers added.
The Uttar Pradesh Braj Teerth Vikas Parishad, which is organising the celebrations under the banner of 'Shri Krishnotsav', has planned a three-day festival from August 15 to 17.
Vice-Chairman of the Mathura-Vrindavan Development Authority and ex-officio CEO of the Parishad, Shyam Bahadur Singh, said the festivities will begin on the morning of August 15 with a grand procession from the main gate of Shri Krishna Janmasthan to Potra Kund, Govind Nagar, and Deeg Gate, before returning to the starting point.
The procession will combine devotional and patriotic themes, featuring about 250 folk artists from Braj, Bundelkhand, Rajasthan, and Haryana, performing traditional dances such as Bundelkhand's Rai, Rajasthan's Kachhi Ghodi, and Haryana's Gujri.
Musicians will play nagaras, dhols, shehnais, damrus, and manjiras, while bhajan groups from various temples, including ISKCON Vrindavan and Man Mandir Barsana, will spread devotional fervour, he said.
The management of the Bankey Bihari temple has urged devotees to avoid bringing the elderly, children, pregnant women, persons with disabilities, and patients suffering from blood pressure or diabetes to Vrindavan during Janmashtami, in view of the expected massive crowds and to prevent any untoward incidents.

Lucknow: There was chaos and panic when a speeding SUV ran over a group of pedestrians in Telibagh area under PGI police station on Aug 17 night. Surat: The city witnessed three separate murders over two days during the Independence Day and Janmashtami festivities, keeping police on high alert. In the first incident, on Saturday morning, a farmer discovered a body in a drainage channel near Deladva village. Dindoli police identified the victim as 38-year-old Subhash Late, a vegetable broker from Sardar Market and a resident of Parvat Patiya. His body bore multiple stab wounds, and police suspect the killing was linked to personal enmity or relationship issues. A day earlier, a 40-year-old man from the Sachin GIDC area was stabbed to death by his 17-year-old son late on August 15. Police said the minor suspected his father of having an illicit relationship, which had led to frequent arguments. During one such quarrel, the boy fatally stabbed his father in the chest. The third case was reported on Friday night under the Sahara Darwaja overbridge, where 18-year-old Raja Jaiswal of Godadara was killed in his sleep. Missing fisherman remains untraceable at Kadem dam in Nirmal district; Penganga in spate in Adilabad district
Drone-aided search operations for a 43-year-old fisherman who was feared drowned in the swirling downstream waters at Kadem dam in Nirmal district on Saturday proved futile, as he could not be traced out till reports last came in late on Sunday evening. The fisherman, identified as Gangadhar of Kannapur village, was washed away in the gushing waters on Saturday when he had gone downstream of the dam to catch fish, sources said. As many as 15 crest gates of the dam were lifted on Saturday following heavy inflows into the reservoir from the catchment areas of the Kaddem project. The gates were later closed as the inflows from its upper reaches decreased, sources added. Police accompanied by the Disaster Response Force personnel conducted an intense search operation by using drones, but in vain. Meanwhile, Adilabad Collector Rajarshi Shah along with Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan inspected the breached stretch of the river bund between Yashwanthguda and Burnoor villages in Adilabad rural mandal on Sunday. As the Penganga river is in spate owing to release of huge inflows from the upstream areas in neighbouring Maharashtra, people living in the villages along the river course have been asked to remain alert. Meanwhile, the Praja Vani, the weekly grievance redressal meeting, scheduled to be held on Monday has been cancelled in view of forecast of heavy rains in Adilabad district for the next two days.
