Coronation Street couple set to split on tonight's episode

Tonight's Coronation Street episode may not have aired just yet, but it is currently available on ITVX, and it looks like a beloved couple is set to split.
Tensions have been high between Eileen Grimshaw and George Shuttleworth for several months, with things only getting worse after the death of Julie Carp.
On the day of Julie's death, George, played by Tony Maudsley, found a video she recorded for Eileen, played by Sue Cleaver, encouraging her to break up with him.
George has since been trying his best to improve things with Eileen, though his efforts have proved too overbearing.

In tonight's episode, his efforts set their relationship back even further.
At Julie's wake, George saw an opportunity during her dream game to ask Eileen to marry him, much to her shock, according to the Metro.
There was an awkward moment of silence before their attention was drawn to Jason Grimshaw (Ryan Thomas), who had made a surprise return to the UK after being dumped by his girlfriend.
After greeting him, George pointed out to Eileen that he was still waiting for an answer to his question.

However, he was left crushed when she admitted that she thought he had been joking.
Later, when everything became too much for Eileen, she headed home, where George soon found her.
He explained that he just wanted to give her a wedding to look forward to amid her grief, but that he understood his timing had been bad.
As he promised to leave the subject alone for now and ask her again later down the line, Eileen admitted that it wasn't the timing that was the problem, but the fact that she didn't want to marry him.
She insisted that he was a great guy and she didn't want to hurt him, and that she was sorry she didn't feel the same.
