4-star DL James Johnson flips commitment from Georgia to Texas
Four-star defensive lineman James Johnson of Miami Northwestern High School in Miami announced his decision to flip his commitment from Kirby Smart and Georgia to the Longhorns on Tuesday, July 15. Johnson committed to the Bulldogs on June 28 over finalists Texas and Florida, among others.
The Longhorns reportedly finished runner-up to the Bulldogs in his initial recruitment and were able to flip the four-star recruit. The upcoming high school senior is listed at 6-foot-2, 285 pounds. He is a four-star recruit according to 247Sports' Composite rankings.

Johnson is a four-star prospect out of Northwestern High School in Miami, according to 247Sports' Composite rankings. He is the No. 69 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 8 defensive line and the No. 10 player from Florida.
Texas 2026 recruiting class rankings
With the addition of Johnson, Texas' 2026 recruiting class now holds 20 commitments. Johnson is the seventh-best recruit in the Longhorns' class, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Texas' 2026 recruiting class sits No. 6 in the country, according to 247Sports, and is the fourth-best in the SEC.
Johnson's flip wasn't the only recruiting victory the Longhorns scored over the Bulldogs, however. Earlier on July 15, Steve Sarkisian and Co. were able to secure the commitment of linebacker Tyler Atkinson, the top-ranked linebacker and player in the state of Georgia for the 2026 recruiting class, as well as its No. 9 overall player. He, like Johnson, chose Texas over the finalist Bulldogs.

Since announcing his retirement, Saban has remained around college football, most notably through his role on ESPN's weekly show "College GameDay." As to if Saban would ever return, the answer certainly appears unlikely in the near future. Nick Saban return to coaching rumor: Daughter refutes speculation with social media post
Will Nick Saban return to coaching, or stay retired? According to his daughter, Kristen Saban, the Alabama football legend is staying retired. Ms. Saban wrote in a social media post/story to Instagram on Thursday: "He's not coming back to coaching, hate to break it to you [laughing emotion] you had your time." Rumors about a return to coaching began when former Crimson Tide quarterback and current ESPN/ABC analyst Greg McElroy said Monday that "a very much in-the-know person" seemed to believe the seven-time national champion wasn't finished coaching. McElroy's comment and subsequent reaction spread across social media, various national sports media outlets, and was a topic at SEC media days in Atlanta. Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, Georgia's Kirby Smart, Ole Miss' Lane Kiffin and LSU's Brian Kelly all commented on the rumor of Saban possibly returning. DeBoer said Wednesday: "He's one of the greatest to ever do it, so he's earned the right to do what he wants. I think the best part of what coach Saban is doing right now is, he's still involved in the game. He brings passion to it." Saban is set to enter his second year as an analyst for ESPN's College GameDay. While Nick Saban himself hasn't addressed the rumor, someone who seems far more likely "in the know" than McElroy or his source has now done so. CBS Sports predicts first Ohio state football loss on 2025 schedule
With conference expansion and an expanded College Football Playoff, the prospects of going an entire season undefeated is becoming an almost impossible task. The best team in the game last year was Ohio State after going on the most impressive postseason run in the sports' history, but even the Buckeyes had two losses before figuring that all out. Big Ten football media days just finished up last week, and with it, we've seen a lot of focus on some Big Ten predictions across local and national coverage, including teams' win/loss records and more. And while Buckeye fans would love to believe Ohio State will go undefeated next season and beat all teams by at least two touchdowns, that's simply not realistic. CBS Sports' Brad Crawford published a piece predicting each Big Ten team's first loss of the 2025 schedule, and OSU fans probably won't like where he believes the Buckeyes will falter for the first time this fall. According to Crawford, he believes Ohio State will lose the season-opener against the Texas Longhorns on August 30. "Two new coordinators. A first-year starting quarterback. A rebuilt defensive front seven. It might take time for the reigning national champions to gel, but there's no easing in -- not with Texas coming to town," wrote Crawford. "The Longhorns also have revenge on their minds after Ohio State kept them out of the title game last year." It's hard to throw too much shade at Crawford for this. Rarely is there a season-opener as challenging as what Ohio State will face when it hosts Texas, but the game is on the banks of the Olentangy in the 'Shoe, so that should give the Buckeyes a significant boost. The game could really go either way, but don't be surprised if the Buckeyes can still take care of business in one whale of a first game of the year.
