Ghaziabad: A plan to modernise three of Ghaziabad's busiest bus terminals — Kaushambi, Sahibabad, and Old Bus Adda — has been hit by repeated delays and will now be completed by 2028, four years past the original target.
Proposed in 2021 by Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC), the project was meant to give depots an airport-like upgrade, including automated ticketing, digital information systems, AC lounges and enhanced security measures to offer passengers a modernised, comfortable experience.
Together, the three depots operate around 800 buses daily, half of which run on long-distance routes to cities like Lucknow, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, and destinations in Bihar and Uttarakhand.
Yet, progress on the Rs 484-crore revamp remains minimal.

"Except for Old Bus Adda, where groundwork began a few months ago, work at Kaushambi and Sahibabad hasn't started," a senior UPSRTC official told TOI.
"The entire process, from procedural delays to environmental clearances, has pushed timelines significantly."
Kaushambi depot, spread across 24,284 sq metres, is to be redeveloped at an estimated cost of Rs 261 crore.

Sahibabad depot, covering 15,000 sq metres, is projected to cost Rs 161 crore, while the 10,000 sq metre Old Bus Adda depot will be revamped for Rs 62 crore. The revamped Kaushambi terminal is to be linked with Sahibabad and Old Bus Adda with Ghaziabad rapid rail stations to streamline multimodal transport.
These three terminals are among 23 across the state selected for overhaul.
The terminals are being developed under a PPP model.
Tenders were floated in Dec 2022, and one firm was selected for all three projects. But delays in environmental approvals, clearance from the forest department required to cut down 25 trees at Kaushambi depot, has held up execution.
A UPSRTC official said funds were deposited under CAMPA, or Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority, for clearance, but the wait has dragged on.
Complicating matters further is the logistical challenge of relocating operations during construction.
"UPSRTC had initially considered shifting bus operations from Kaushambi to Arthala, but that plan didn't materialise," the UPSRTC official added. "We are now exploring temporary relocation to Anand Vihar Bus Terminal."

US-China trade talks: Donald Trump administration & Beijing may extend tariff pause by another 3 months, says report

Unlike China, other countries have an August 1 deadline to finalise trade deals with the US. (AI image) US-China trade deal: The world's two largest economies are expected to extend their current reciprocal tariff truce by another 90 days, according to a Reuters report quoting South China Morning Post. Another round of trade deal negotiations between the Donald Trump administration and China will take place in Stockholm on Monday. The current pause on reciprocal tariffs ends on August 12. The report said that the two sides may agree to another 3-month truce as they agree as trade deal negotiations continue. The report indicates that during this 90-day extension period, both nations will commit to refraining from implementing new tariffs or taking additional measures that could intensify the ongoing trade dispute. During recent meetings in Geneva and London that centred on "de-escalation", the upcoming discussions will see Chinese representatives addressing fentanyl-related tariffs with Trump's trade officials, the Reuters report said. The upcoming Stockholm talks on Monday will mark the third round of discussions between the United States and China, aimed at resolving the economic disagreements that have fuelled their ongoing trade dispute. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Struggling With Belly Fat?
