Cowboys Wideout Viewed as 'Major Player' in NFC East Race

Coming off a shaky tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, George Pickens finds himself with a change of scenery. As he prepares for this next chapter of his career, one analyst thinks he can have a major impact on one of the most competitive divisions in the NFL right now.
During the offseason, the Dallas Cowboys decided to roll the dice on Pickens in an attempt to bolster the offense. Despite his off-field drama, he is still one of the most skilled receivers in the league. Landing in Dallas is a good situation for Pickens, as he's joining a pass-heavy offense led by a high-level quarterback in Dak Prescott.
Though his production took a slight dip in 2024, many believe Pickens has the potential to be an impactful piece for the Cowboys this season. While appearing on SportsCenter over the weekend, Jeremy Fowler opened up on how Pickens could help sway things in an air-tight NFC East.

"This George Pickens trade has the league's full attention, particularly in the NFC East," Fowler said. "People I've talked to in that division feel like he can tilt the field for Dallas and he'll be a major player. Because he is one of the best contested catchers in the league, body contortive things downfield, so he gives them a new dimension. The issue really in Pittsburgh was really the maturity issues and some of those problems there, but a lot of it stems with Pickens wanting to get the ball, and wanting the offense to move properly, having the passing game humming. And so Dallas has that with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb already. So he's walking into a good situation."

With Prescott returning from injury this season, the Cowboys are primed to get back in the hunt in the NFC. This will be no small feat, as their division is going to be as competitive as it's been in recent memory.
The Philadelphia Eagles are in a strong position to repeat as champions, and the Washington Commanders will want to get back to the conference championship. Knowing this, the Cowboys made sure to bolster their cast of offensive weapons around Prescott, most notably by acquiring Pickens.
Playing alongside CeeDee Lamb, Pickens is going to have endless opportunities to make defenses pay. If he's able to keep his focus on the field, he could emerge as an X-factor for Dallas and help them compete in the loaded NFC East.

George Pickens' Youth Football Camp Snub Draws Apology from Organizers

George Pickens' Youth Football Camp Snub Draws Apology from Organizers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Former Pittsburgh Steelers wideout George Pickens was recently lit up on social media for allegedly skipping out on a local Pittsburgh area youth football camp that he had reportedly committed to, then re-committed to after his trade to the Dallas Cowboys. Advertisement TrueEdge Sports, the organizer of the camp, issued a statement slamming Pickens for what the original statement said was Pickens "walking back" on his word to appear and that he was "no longer interested" in attending the camp. The statement said the organizers were "deeply frustrated" by his decision. Now, it seems that all of that was ... wrong? TrueEdge Sports released a second statement, seemingly "walking back" everything it said in the original statement. "At TrueEdge Sports, we take pride in fostering strong relationships with the athletes, families and communities we serve. Recently, a statement was issued regarding our scheduled youth camp with George Pickens that did not accurately reflect the full scope of communication or the context surrounding the event," the statement read. At no point did George communicate with us directly, and our communication with George's representatives led to confusion about the camp's status and future direction. Advertisement "Regrettably, the language used in our original message mischaracterized George's interest and actions. While our frustrations stemmed from the uncertainty surrounding the event, it was never our intention to publicly question George's professionalism, integrity, or commitment to the community. We now understand the implications of our message were not only inappropriate but inconsistent with our values as an organization." Pittsburgh Native WR Would Love to Sign with Steelers

Pittsburgh Native WR Would Love to Sign with Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Pittsburgh native and veteran free agent wide receiver Tyler Boyd played in Cincinnati for eight seasons, where he played his hometown Steelers twice per year. Advertisement He signed a one-year deal with the Tennessee Titans last season and saw his lowest production since 2017, his second year in the league. It was an anemic offense for the Titans, and Boyd didn't register a touchdown catch for the first time in his career. Now, without a team, he'd like to return home to Pittsburgh, which is just just 32 miles from his birthplace of Clairton. 'Absolutely,' Boyd told Pittsburgh Sports Now. 'You know, all my family is here. I'd be able to have the majority of them be able to support me. I'm real cool with [coach Mike] Tomlin,' Boyd said. 'He's always been a good person. . . . When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship. After practice, I'd walk over there, talk to [Antonio Brown] and those guys, talk to Tomlin, and he'd just pick at different things, where I could get better and get some guidance. I think we had a great friendship.' Boyd wasn't just born in the Pittsburgh area, he also attended college at Pitt. Advertisement And it might be a bit poetic for him to return to the area to potentially end his career - close to where it all started at Clairton High School. While the Steelers could be in the market for a veteran wideout, general manager Omar Khan has been pretty coy about it. There are options out there that might be better than Boyd, but Pittsburgh hasn't flinched yet. After acquiring D.K. Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks and then shipping George Pickens to Dallas via trade, the Steelers don't have a ton of experience in the wideout room. Boyd has 552 career catches to his name for 6,390 yards and 31 touchdowns. That seems like production the Steelers could use heading into 2025. What Could've Been For Buffalo: Looking Back At The Sabres' 2020-21 Roster

GM Kevyn Adams and the Buffalo Sabres have moved on from another promising player before they reached the pinnacle of their career. On Wednesday night, JJ Peterka was traded to the Utah Mammoth for Michael Kesselring and Josh Doan. With Peterka gone, the Sabres have just six players remaining from their 2020-21 roster. That team didn't have success in the regular season, as they finished last in the NHL. However, looking back at the makeup of their roster, they had an impressive group of players. That 2020-21 team included Jack Eichel, Sam Reinhart, Casey Mittelstadt, Taylor Hall, Brandon Montour, Dylan Cozens, Jake McCabe and Linus Ullmark. All those players now play elsewhere, and some of them have gone on to win Stanley Cups and NHL awards. In addition, that Sabres team had Tage Thompson, Rasmus Dahlin and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, three players who remain on Buffalo's current roster. Among the ex-Sabres listed and including their former captain, Kyle Okposo, there are five Stanley Cups between them. Not just that, all those players experienced playoff hockey after moving from Buffalo. Eichel and Reinhart have transformed themselves into some of the best players in the league since they were traded away from Buffalo. The Sabres traded Eichel to the Vegas Golden Knights in the middle of the 2021-22 campaign. There was a disagreement between the player and the team regarding his health and how to manage Eichel's injury. Nonetheless, he became a different beast once he moved to Nevada, especially last season. Eichel reached a new career-high of 94 points, including 28 goals in 77 games. The 28-year-old finished in the top five in voting for the Hart, Selke and Lady Byng Trophies. Reinhart is a back-to-back Cup champion with the Florida Panthers and is a key member of the team. On top of that, he had a 57-goal season in 2023-24 and has been a top-five Selke Trophy candidate twice since joining Florida. With that, Eichel and Reinhart were selected to Team USA and Team Canada's preliminary rosters, respectively, for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in February. Even Jeff Skinner, who never made a playoff appearance before this past season, went all the way to the Stanley Cup final with the Edmonton Oilers. He was bought out by the Sabres and signed with the Oilers as a free agent last July. It's worth mentioning that the Sabres hold the joint-longest playoff drought among the four major sports in North America. They share a 14-year playoff drought with the NFL's New York Jets, and it's the longest drought in NHL history. Even those players who haven't gone on to win the Stanley Cup they turned out to be solid players, making a difference on their respective teams. For example, Ullmark has won a Vezina and William M. Jennings Trophy one season after he signed with the Boston Bruins in the 2021 off-season. Now, he's a true No.1 goaltender and was a key piece to pushing the Ottawa Senators to the post-season for the first time since 2017. Defenseman Jake McCabe is another player who has found a new home. He's been a force with the Toronto Maple Leafs, heading into his fourth season with the team, and depending on the game, McCabe is sometimes the best D-man on Toronto. Only time will tell if Peterka becomes yet another player that Buffalo may regret moving on from.
