App-based platforms power one-third of Goa's taxi fleet
Nearly one out of three taxis operating in
Goa
are enrolled on the local app-based platforms in the coastal state, with most of them catering to tourists, official data shows.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's recent announcement that his government will not allow cab aggregators from outside Goa has raised hopes for the local app-based mobility platforms, which have been in the market for some time now.
As per government figures, out of the total 12,000 tourist taxis operating in the state, 5,000 are on board the app-based platforms, mostly with two companies --
Goa Miles
and
Goa Taxi App

The Goa Miles alone has a fleet of 4,000-odd taxis on board.
Allaying the apprehensions raised by local tourist taxi drivers over the Goa Transport Aggregators Guidelines 2025, CM Sawant on Friday said cab aggregators from outside will not be allowed in the state.

The draft guidelines were issued on May 20. The last date to give suggestions and raise objections is June 30.
Goa Miles Chief Executive Officer Utkarsh Dabhade told PTI that their service, which is affiliated to the Goa Tourism Development Corporation, was introduced seven years ago.
"Since the introduction of the app-based service, we have been receiving good response from tourists and locals alike," he said.
On an average, the Goa Miles fleet transports 15,000 passengers daily, of whom 85 per cent are tourists and 15 per cent local travellers, Dabhade said.
He said their services are available across the state, majorly at both the airports - Manohar International Airport at Mopa (in North Goa) and the international airport at Dabolim (South Goa).
The service has been completely a Goan brand with 100 per cent of the staff, including taxi owners, from the state, he said.
The state-run Goa Taxi App has been active for the last two years with more than 1,000 taxis on board the platform.
The service, having been introduced by the state government, is completely tourist-friendly with regards to rates and other facilities, a senior Goa Taxi App official said.
It would be beneficial for all the tourist taxi owners to get onboard the app-based service to get better business and also other facilities, he added.

Ramesh Chennithala urges Kerala govt to curb rising costs
T'puram: Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has urged the state govt urgently intervene in the market to address the issue of rising costs that are making life extremely difficult for people in Kerala. He accused the govt of trying to divert attention from the exploitation of the people by large corporates and multinational corporates (MNCs) by focusing on the Nilambur byelection. "The common man's life is becoming increasingly unbearable. The govt should stop ignoring the issue and take immediate action in the market. In Kerala, the price of coconut oil increased by Rs 70 per kg. Coconut is hard to find at a reasonable price. The price of rice rose by Rs 8 to Rs 15. The cost of all essential goods is skyrocketing. Every new batch of goods from MNCs sees a price increase. The govt is not paying attention to the market. They are creating social issues to divert public attention from the real problems," Chennithala said on Sunday. While inflation significantly decreased in India, it has doubled in Kerala, he said. "According to data from April 2025, the inflation rate in India is only 3.16%. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like They Were So Beautiful Before; Now Look At Them; Number 10 Will Shock You Reportingly Undo However, during the same period, Kerala recorded the highest inflation rate among Indian states at 5.9%. This indicates the uncontrolled price hikes of essential goods in Kerala. The state's finance department has completely failed. Not only did the debt increase, but the finance department also failed to control the price rise," he said. The govt has always effectively intervened in the market to control price hikes in Kerala. This was achieved by supplying essential goods through Maveli stores and Supplyco outlets. However, the govt is now in a state of complete failure, unable to manage even that. The govt should focus on the fundamental issues, demanded Chennithala. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Credit over caution: Household savings in India fall to 18.1% of GDP; more Indians rely on credit to fund expenses
India's household savings have slipped to a new low for the third consecutive year, falling to 18.1% of GDP in FY24, according to a report by CareEdge Ratings. On the other hand, household debt rose to 6.2% of GDP, almost twice as much as ten years ago, showing that more Indians are borrowing to meet their everyday needs, the report said. The report also pointed to a wider dip in gross domestic savings, which dropped to 30.7% of GDP in FY24, down from 32.2% in FY15. Despite the worrying decline in savings, the report notes a more promising outlook in rural India. Wage growth for rural male workers rose 6.1% year-on-year in February, marking the fourth straight month that earnings outpaced rural inflation. Easing food inflation and healthy agricultural prospects are also helping boost rural consumption. 'Going ahead, RBI policy rate cuts, lower tax burden and continued easing of price pressures remain key tailwinds for the broad-based demand recovery,' CareEdge said in the report. Rural consumer confidence is showing cautious optimism, holding steady near the neutral 100 mark. Meanwhile, urban consumer sentiment remains subdued, although expectations for the year ahead remain hopeful across both rural and urban households. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like May 2025: Top 5 Dividend Stocks [Read Now] Seeking Alpha Read Now Undo The report also highlighted a broader trend of cost control in corporate India. Labour cost growth in major IT firms, for instance, has dropped from a high of 26% in Q3 FY23 to just 4% in Q3 FY25, pointing to continued efforts at cost rationalisation. On the inflation front, there's more good news. India's retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), fell to 3.2% in April 2025, the lowest since August 2019. However, prices of essentials such as edible oils (up 17.4%) and fruits (up 13.8%) remain stubbornly high. A strong Rabi harvest, healthy water reservoir levels, and forecasts of an above-normal monsoon are expected to help stabilise food prices further. As per government data, the Indian economy grew by 6.5% in real terms in FY25, signalling resilience despite pressures on household balance sheets.
