Alabama football 2025 season preview, predictions: Fatutoa Henry
Coming to Alabama via junior college, Henry is an experienced player at the collegiate level, but much of that didn't come in the FBS.
However, Henry did originally begin his collegiate career with a team that is currently in the SEC, and now looks to breakout at the Division-I level after returning to the FBS this past offseason in Alabama's recruiting class.

While new to Alabama this season, Henry is a familiar face to college football who originally began his career back in 2022 at Oklahoma prior to spending the last two seasons at Cerritos College in California. Redshirting at Oklahoma, Henry appeared in 16 games across the 2023-24 seasons where he posted a combined 63 tackles, 13.5 TFL, 5.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery.

Henry's 2024 season was spent at Cerritos College in California, his second with the program. Across six games last season, Henry had 20 tackles, six TFL, two sacks, and a fumble recovery.

Coming out of high school, Henry was considered as the nation's No. 401 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class, per the 247Sports Composite rankings, prior to attending Oklahoma for a season. Rated a four-star prospect, Henry was also considered the No. 33 overall edge rusher in the class, as well as the No. 29 player in the state of California where he attended Leuzinger High School.
Prior to Alabama, Henry was ranked as the nation's No. 2 overall JUCO prospect in the 2025 class, per 247Sports, as well as the No. 2 JUCO defensive lineman. A four-star prospect who committed to Alabama in Oct. 2024 where he flipped his commitment from Mississippi State, Henry was also considered the No. 1 JUCO prospect in California where he attended Cerritos College.

Similar to teammate Steve Bolo Mboumoua, could Henry make an immediate impact as a junior college addition for Alabama this season?
When looking at Henry's potential impact in 2025, the redshirt junior could potentially line up at multiple spots along Alabama's defensive front, most notably at bandit. However, Henry is not currently expected to start with returning starter LT Overton back in 2025, meaning that the JUCO addition is likely a depth option to begin the season.
However, Henry should still see some action in 2025, and could potentially emerge into a larger role as the season goes along.

He made several game-winning plays for the Sooners with his pair of "Kip-Sixes" against Auburn and Alabama, and his impact showed up beyond the stat sheet with his tremendous coverage ability. It's a little surprising to see Omosigho on the watchlist, considering he's still technically in a battle with Kobie McKinzie for the starting MIKE linebacker spot for the Sooners, but it speaks to his overall talent level. I've written multiple times that I expected it would only be a matter of time before "Sammy O" won the job, and it seems like national consensus is reaching the same conclusion. Danny Stutsman was nominated for the Butkus Award his last two seasons, but it has been over twenty years since the Sooners have had anyone win the prestigious award. Teddy Lehman was the last Sooner to win, nabbing the Butkus in 2003. If one of these two wins the award, they would be just the fourth winner in Sooners history, joining Lehman, Rocky Calmus, and Brian Bosworth (who won it twice in a row). For now though, the Sooners are preparing for this season and stacking wins before they start thinking about individual awards. Oklahoma coach Brent Venables makes stunning confession on team's QB play last season
It was a Murphy's Law type of season Oklahoma experienced in 2024 - particularly on the offensive side of the ball. What possibly could go wrong did. The offense struggled to score while dealing with a slew of injuries, particularly at wide receiver and on the line. Jackson Arnold, who was anointed as the person counted on to continue the Sooners' grand lineage of quarterback play going back to the turn of the century, was benched in their very first SEC game. They set a single-season school record for sacks allowed. The woeful performance eventually cost Seth Littrell his job midway through his first season as offensive coordinator. And, perhaps fittingly, a chance to salvage a winning season and a bowl game trophy went awry when Oklahoma failed to convert on a potential game-winning two-point conversion in its Armed Forces Bowl loss to Navy. But after Brent Venables - entering his fourth season as OU head coach - received his very first question during his appearance at Wednesday's SEC Media Days in Atlanta, he immediately made a confession. Venables admitted that he put both Arnold and freshman Michael Hawkins Jr., who replaced Arnold as OU's starting quarterback, in a bad spot due to the litany of injuries on offense, particularly at receiver. 'Certainly, it's hard to get a first down or two (with several receivers injured),' Venables said. 'But I take this moment just to say what type of a future that Jackson Arnold and Mike Hawkins (have), both of those guys put in a really tough spot as first-year players. It's a supporting cast that you know they can't play quarterback by themselves and ended up putting them in a really tough position, based on what happened, and both of them are going to be incredibly successful in the future. 'But that made it really difficult, and no excuses. What you would ideally like to see on any given Saturday, if you're going to be competitive and have a chance to win as an offense and a defense and in special teams that complement one another, not compensate for one another, and when you give the ball back more than you take it from the opponent. I know it's hard to win.' Arnold, of course, moved on from Oklahoma after the season, transferring to SEC rival Auburn. Hawkins did stay with the Sooners, but appears to be the backup to new starting QB John Mateer, the Washington State transfer. Kalen DeBoer says Deontae Lawson 'trajectory is going up.' Alabama football LB injury update
As Alabama football took the field for its first fall practice of 2025, Deontae Lawson was there too. The redshirt senior linebacker, who had an ACL injury against Oklahoma that ended his 2024 season and helped him decide to return to the Crimson Tide for a fifth year in 2025, was with the Alabama linebackers taking reps with a black brace on his right knee. Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Lawson is not a full go, but that he is on that pace. "His trajectory is going up," DeBoer said. "Deontae, his leadership is the thing that's really come out, so that is exciting. He's going to be limited. Just the number of reps, the volume, I guess is the best way to put it, in what he can take. As expected. That was going to be the plan, just with his timeline, from the beginning. It's great having him out there. I think he feels really good about being out there. Mentally and physically, I think he is in a really good spot. There's still progress to be made as we prepare for the first game." At SEC media days earlier in July, Lawson said he was at a "9 out of 10" when describing his recovery path. "I'm sure I won't take every rep, but they'll definitely monitor me and make sure I'm ready to go for August 30," Lawson said. Lawson had 76 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss and two sacks in 2024, adding four pass deflections. Alabama opens its 2025 season at Florida State on Aug. 30.
