There's still a lot of golf to be played between now and September, including the highly anticipated Open Championship. However, no fan has stopped keeping an eye on the upcoming Ryder Cup, especially now that the teams are starting to take shape.
The American team recently announced that Scottie Scheffler is the first player confirmed for Bethpage Black. It didn't take long for the Europeans to confirm Rory McIlroy as their first lock.
Another Ryder Cup veteran and fan favorite, Justin Rose, shared his excitement on his X account, which is followed by more than 913,000 users.
"Strong first player in team," he posted.
After finishing in the top 20 in the U.S. Open, McIlroy reached 3,040.95 points in the internal European Ryder Cup team ranking, securing his spot on the roster as the first of the six direct qualifiers.
His three PGA Tour victories this season, including the Masters Tournament, naturally played a significant role in this result.
The Northern Irishman also reacted on X to his official inclusion in the team:
McIlroy has played in seven Ryder Cups, winning five. He has contributed 18 career points, and his best performance was in 2023 when he earned four points in five matches.
At the beginning of the current season, the five-time major winner stated that winning the Ryder Cup again on American soil is among his goals for the remainder of his professional career:
"Winning The Masters, winning an Olympic medal and another away Ryder Cup, they are my three goals for the rest of my career," he said last January.
Only one of their five victories has come in the Americas. It was the famous 2012 edition, known as the "Miracle at Medinah," in which the Europeans trailed by four points (10-6) heading into the singles matches, but won 8.5 points on the final day to turn the score around and take the title.

Report: Edwards Leading FSG Push To Buy La Liga Club
FSG in Talks to Buy Getafe: Liverpool Owners Eye Spanish Expansion FSG Step Up Multi-Club Ambitions Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the American owners of Liverpool FC, are once again making moves towards building a multi-club model. After previously stepping back from a potential deal with Bordeaux, FSG have now turned their attention to La Liga side Getafe. Advertisement The report, published by Spanish outlet AS, and written by Manuel Torres, reveals: 'The American company wants to expand into the world of football and they have set their sights on Spain.' Getafe, currently an established mid-table club in Spain's top flight, appears to be an ideal acquisition target. Their proximity to Madrid, a newly approved stadium project, and a clearly defined succession plan from president Ángel Torres offer strong strategic appeal. Why Getafe Appeals to FSG Getafe's trajectory aligns with FSG's operational philosophy: sustainability, modern infrastructure, and long-term planning. As Torres prepares to step down no later than 2027, FSG could step in to manage a club that's already mid-way through a stadium redevelopment and a broader Sports City project. Photo by IMAGO Advertisement 'Specifically, at Getafe. The choice for the blue team is clear; a project consolidated in the elite in the 21st century, a new stadium with the works already started, the proximity to the capital…' The timing seems intentional. FSG can enter discussions during a transition phase, potentially shaping Getafe's future without a hostile takeover. The revamped Coliseum, set for completion by 2027–2028, would serve not only as a revenue-generating asset but also a recruiting tool and football development hub. The Bordeaux Near-Miss: A Lesson Learned? Back in July 2024, FSG confirmed they were in talks to acquire Bordeaux. That deal collapsed due to stadium leasing complications, a problem that appears less likely with Getafe, who already have their own site and construction underway. Advertisement This signals a more refined approach from FSG – targeting clubs that align with their infrastructure-first model. This is reminiscent of the City Football Group's global template, although FSG have long been more conservative in diversifying their football portfolio. A Trusted Future for Getafe? Ángel Torres' ambition to leave the club in 'trustworthy and experienced hands' is echoed in AS's reporting: 'At the moment, only a study and some contacts have taken place between club and company…' While still in the early stages, this move suggests FSG are doing due diligence. The promise of advanced facilities, a presidential succession plan, and room for strategic influence may make Getafe the ideal springboard into Spanish football. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis From a Liverpool fan perspective, this development feels both inevitable and calculated. FSG's initial reluctance to mirror Manchester City's global multi-club empire has gradually shifted. With Michael Edwards back in charge and a more forward-thinking football structure now in place, targeting Getafe makes strategic sense. Advertisement First off, Getafe's presence in La Liga offers Liverpool indirect access to Spanish talent. With a feeder relationship, player development and scouting pathways could become more efficient. Players not quite ready for Anfield could refine their game in Spain before making the jump. Secondly, fans might be wary of divided attention or resource allocation, but if done right, this could bolster Liverpool's network without disrupting the club's focus. Getafe's new stadium and infrastructure also remove the kind of logistical headaches that derailed the Bordeaux deal. There's little doubt FSG will demand operational control and transparency – hallmarks of their Anfield model – if the deal proceeds. The bigger picture is FSG aligning Liverpool with a modern, competitive footballing ecosystem. Clubs without sister networks risk falling behind in data, recruitment, and global influence. This isn't about glamour; it's about sustainability and staying relevant at the top table of football. In sum, if FSG's Getafe interest is more than flirtation, it could mark the beginning of a new, smarter era for Liverpool's global footprint.

Former NFL player says Patriots undrafted WR plays like Julian Edelman
Former NFL player says Patriots undrafted WR plays like Julian Edelman New England Patriots undrafted rookie wide receiver Efton Chism III has been getting plenty of praise for his practice sessions during minicamp and OTAs. Now, that attention is extending outward with a national analyst and former NFL player, Brian Baldinger, recognizing Chism's talent as well. Baldinger highlighted and broke down college football footage of Chism in action. The undrafted rookie broke Super Bowl LVI MVP Cooper Kupp's record with 120 receptions at Eastern Washington for 1,311 yards and 13 touchdowns. He also led the FCS with 10 catches per game and ultimately earned first-team FCS All-American honors. The Patriots have a long history of finding great slot receivers, including Wes Welker and Julian Edelman. Could Chism be their next great find? "This guy is turning heads in Foxborough. I don't know if he's Julian Edelman. I don't know if he's Wes Welker," said Baldinger. "But he sure plays the game like those guys did, in the way that those guys played. They might have a slot receiver coming out of Eastern Washington, undrafted free agent." It remains to be seen how the wideout's skill level translates to live game action at the NFL level. Keep in mind that all of the practices throughout the spring were non-padded workout sessions. The Patriots will get a better sense of Chism's true potential when the pads come on and the intensity ramps up at training camp. Follow Patriots Wire on Twitter and Facebook.

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The world was patiently waiting to see the long-awaited race between gold medal Olympian Noah Lyles and Miami Dolphins superstar Tyreek Hill. However, the race to finally prove which of the pair was truly the fastest has been canceled. In a post shared by New York Post Sports, Lyles is speaking with media and revealed that the race between him and Hill ran into some unforseen issues, and will not be moving forward. "We were very deep into creating the event. In fact, it was supposed to happen this weekend," Lyles said. "Unfortunately, there were some things, complications, personal reasons that it just didn't come to pass." MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - DECEMBER 22: Tyreek Hill #10 of the Miami Dolphins runs onto the field prior to the game against the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium on December 22, 2024 in... MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - DECEMBER 22: Tyreek Hill #10 of the Miami Dolphins runs onto the field prior to the game against the San Francisco 49ers at Hard Rock Stadium on December 22, 2024 in Miami Gardens, Florida. Dolphins star Tyreek Hill wants to "open the door" to leave Miami. MoreThis is tragic news, as Hill was getting ready for his big race, and even participated in a 100-meter dash on June 13. He posted a time of 10.15 seconds, and held up a sign that said "Noah Lyles could never." Went for a lil jog today ☺️ — Ty Hill (@cheetah) June 14, 2025 Lyles did indicate the race between the pair was meant to move forward, so there could be some more hope in the future that the pair might still race. However, considering the Olympics are a year away, along with NFL training camp starting — the timing might have just not worked out for the race. Lyles won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2024, as he posted a new personal best of 9.784 in the 100-meter dash. Per the time that Hill posted above, he would have certainly not beaten Lyles. The race between Lyles and Hill was not meant to be the 100-meter, and the pair agreed to do something between 40 yards (36.6 meters) and 100 meters, which was agreed on in February. This story will be updated...
