Police warn 5G arsonists are putting public and themselves ‘at serious risk'
A 5G tower in the Beechmount Avenue area of the city was set alight shortly after midnight on Saturday morning. This incident marks the latest in a series of similar arson attacks across Northern Ireland.
Detectives are now appealing to the public for any information regarding the crime.
Detective Inspector Wilson said: 'Officers attended the scene, along with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who extinguished the fire.
'This is just one of a number of 5G masts that have been set on fire recently and I cannot emphasise enough the dangers of lighting fire to electrical equipment.
'This is extremely reckless and those responsible are putting themselves and members of the public at serious risk.
'We are treating this as arson and I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anyone suspicious in the area or anyone with CCTV or other footage that could assist with inquiries are asked to contact detectives on 101 quoting reference 37 16/08/25.'

East Belfast: Man assaulted after men force entry to property
A man has been taken to hospital after a group of masked men forced entry to a home in east Belfast and assaulted him. Police were alerted to the incident at Loopland Park at approximately 00:20 BST on Sunday. Man lures Grindr date into his home for a massage... before 'gouging his eye out with kitchen knife'
A man has been accused of luring his Grindr date to his home for a massage before stabbing him in the back of the neck with a kitchen knife. The date 'miraculously' survived Reggie Florence's alleged stabbing frenzy by fighting back, but lost an eye and suffered numerous wounds. Florence, 28, was interrupted by police after a neighbor allegedly saw him standing over the victim during the vicious attack. The pair met on Grindr on August 3 and Florence persuaded the man to drive all the way from Long Island to his home in Middletown, New York. After he arrived, Florence offered to give him a massage and told him to lay on the floor. He began as expected, but suddenly grabbed a hidden knife. Florence allegedly stabbed him several times in the back of the neck with the kitchen knife before the victim rolled over and grabbed him. 'As the victim attempted to fight back, Florence continued to stab the victim about the body, including the eyes and torso,' prosecutors alleged. 'As a result, the victim sustained critical injuries including the loss of an eye. 'A concerned neighbor called the police who, upon arriving at the scene, found the defendant standing over the victim struggling with the knife.' The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threatening wounds and a punctured lung. Florence suffered minor injuries during the struggle for the knife. Police allegedly found 12 knives strategically hidden around the house and a new mop, bucket, and a bottle of bleach near where the man was stabbed. 'It is a miracle that the haunting allegations in this case did not result in the death of the victim,' Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said. 'While the victim continues to recover from life-altering injuries, we will seek to hold this defendant accountable for his unspeakable crimes.' Florence was charged with attempted murder, assault with intention to cause serious injury, and assault with intent to cause disfigurement. He pleaded not guilty and was held at the Orange County Jail after failing to post a $500,000 cash bail until his next court date on August 28.

Redditch man drowns at Nuneaton beauty spot
A man has drowned after getting into difficulty while swimming at a Warwickshire beauty Berlan, from Redditch in Worcestershire, was swimming in Ensor's Pool in Nuneaton on Sunday afternoon, Warwickshire Police crews were called at about 12:30 BST to reports that the the 27-year-old man had disappeared in the water and not resurfaced for five was pulled from the water but confirmed dead at the scene at about 13:30, police said. The force is continuing to investigate on behalf of the Berlan's next of kin have been informed, a police spokesperson added, and anyone who was there at the time is asked to contact pool, in the south-west area of the town, is a former clay pit that served a nearby colliery and brick works and is now a site of special scientific interest.
