Buchi Babu Trophy 2025: Mazumdar, Sumanta drag Bengal close to Haryana on second day
Mazumdar compiled a near-flawless 126 off 167 balls, holding the innings together after early trouble. He rebuilt with a 70-run stand alongside Sudip Gharami (45 off 73 balls), who was trapped leg-before by Sumit Kumar just before lunch, and then added 102 with Abishek Porel.
The wicketkeeper-batter showcased some crisp cuts off spinners before falling on 39, edging pacer Ajay Singh while chasing a wide delivery. Mazumdar brought up his century off 134 balls but fell while trying to accelerate, miscuing a pull off spinner Aman Kumar to fine leg.
With Bengal still 120 runs adrift of Haryana's 415, Sumanta took charge. He pierced through the gaps around the ground, went over the infield at times, and kept the scoreboard moving in a proactive knock that included seven fours. However, he fell short of his hundred by two runs while attempting a sharp double. Bengal eventually folded for 381, falling just short of parity.
Led by Sumit Kumar's five for 32, Haryana bowlers will be satisfied with their disciplined effort in hot and humid conditions. They maintained tight lines, denied easy boundaries, and were backed by sharp ground fielding that ultimately made the difference between the two sides.

Not MS Dhoni Or Rishabh Pant! Ruturaj Gaikwad Picks Best Wicketkeeper In India
Last Updated: MS Dhoni is arguably India's best wicketkeeper-batter of all time, and Pant is India's first-choice wicketkeeper in Test cricket these days. Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad interacted with kids in Tamil Nadu after the conclusion of Maharashtra's first match of the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament against Chhattisgarh, and during the interaction, when asked to name the best wicketkeeper in India, he stunned everyone by taking his own name over the likes of legendary MS Dhoni, who he plays with in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings, and Rishabh Pant, who is India's first-choice stumper in the five-day format of the game. When asked, 'Who is the best keeper in India?" Ruturaj pointed a finger at himself and said, 'You didn't see my keeping? You should see. Go and watch on YouTube. Instead of watching Shoaib Akhtar, watch me keeping." During the interaction, Gaikwad was also asked to name the hardest bowler he faced, and he mentioned Trent Boult's name. Boult played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020 and 2021 when Gaikwad made his debut, and from 2022 to 2024 he was part of the Rajasthan Royals set-up. The former Kiwi pacer was signed for Rs 12.50 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction by MI again, and he lived up to the billing by picking up 22 wickets in 16 matches this year. In the viral interaction with the kids, Ruturaj also enjoyed some light-hearted banter. When Gaikwad asked the children which IPL team they like, they said, 'CSK, CSK!" But when he asked again, 'Any other teams you like in IPL?" then some mentioned RCB and Mumbai Indians names, after which Gaikwad said, 'Out, out!" and followed up with, 'Put up your hand if you cheer for other teams… Everyone will remember your name and won't select you in CSK in the IPL." Gaikwad failed to fire In Maharashtra's first match of the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, Gaikwad failed to do much with the bat in both innings. He came out to bat at No. 4 in the first innings but could only manage to score 1 run from four balls, and in the second innings, he made 11 runs from 32 balls as a No. 6 batter. Gaikwad's flop show with the bat cost Maharashtra, as they suffered a shocking defeat by 35 runs. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. "I've Seen This Before...": Prithvi Shaw Rebuilding Himself Amid Lack Of Support
A teenage prodigy, Prithvi Shaw remains an incredible talent in Indian cricketing spectrum despite setbacks he has gone through the last few years. The opening batter, once touted as the next Sachin Tendulkar, hasn't had much going his way the last few years. Still young and able to fix mistakes from the past, Shaw a smashed a brilliant century on debut in a Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament match against Chhattisgarh. The batter, however, doesn't have the same support from past and current cricketers that he did during his Under-19 days with the Indian team. Speaking after the end of play on Tuesday, Shaw said that he is starting from scratch again, looking to put the basics in place. "I don't mind coming from scratch again because I've seen many ups and downs in my life ... I'm kind of a very confident guy, confident in myself, my work ethics. I feel, I hope that this season will go really well for me as well as for my team," said Shaw. "I don't want to change anything. I just went back to basics, doing things that I used to do in Under-19 days, which got me to the Indian team, just doing all the stuff back again, you know," said the 25-year-old. "Practicing more, gym, running. It's small things, obviously, it's not that big because I've been doing these things since the age of 12 and 13." What a knock! Prithvi Shaw smashes his maiden century for Maharashtra in the Buchi Babu Trophy 2025-26. He reached the landmark in just 122 balls, making it a memorable first hundred in MCA colours. — Maharashtra Cricket Association (@MahaCricket) August 19, 2025 Shaw , who last played for India in 2021, also revealed that he is now staying away from social media, having gone through incessant trolling in the past. "Just trying to be myself and not really trying to be on social media or anything and those kinds of distractions. Nowadays social media, it's quite bad. It's kind of peaceful when I'm not using it," explained Shaw. When asked about potential support from members of the current Indian team or those from the past, Shaw said that he has got his family's support, which is enough.
