MADANI framework upholds moral values and national unity, says PM Anwar

PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring Malaysia's development under the MADANI framework remains anchored in strong moral values and national unity. Speaking at the Majlis Ilmu MADANI event with Islamic scholars at Kompleks Seri Perdana, he stressed that while Malaysia embraces modern progress, Islamic principles must guide its future. 'We need to progress. We need to ensure that there is peace and political stability, to craft an economic move forward at a faster pace, an accelerated pace. But at the same time, we are mindful of the fact that as Muslims, the issue of values is very pertinent,' Anwar said. The event was attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar and Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek. International figures, including British musician Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) and Islamic scholar Dr Shaykha Haifaa Younis, were also present. Addressing the ongoing crisis in Gaza, Anwar urged the global community not to overlook the suffering of Palestinians. Dr Haifaa, who shared her experiences in Gaza, described how the resilience of its people deepened her spirituality. 'They taught me patience. They taught me how to trust Allah, even when the world around you is falling apart,' she said. Quran scholar Syeikh Dr Ahmad Aissa Hassan El-Ma'sarawi praised Anwar's monthly knowledge gatherings, likening them to the practices of early Islamic leaders. He urged Muslims to adhere to Quranic teachings, stating, 'When we return to the Quran, Allah will protect us and we will be successful people.' - Bernama

Hun Manet Heads To Putrajaya for Ceasefire Talks With Thailand

By Vijian Paramasivam PHNOM PENH, July 28 (Bernama) -- Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet will lead a delegation to Malaysia on Monday for mediation talks facilitated by Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Hun Manet confirmed his participation in a posting on his Facebook page late on Sunday. bootstrap slideshow 'I will lead a Cambodian delegation to attend a special meeting in Kuala Lumpur hosted by Malaysia. I'd like to thank Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his initiative and coordination to organise and host this special meeting,' said Hun Manet. Manet is expected to hold high-level talks with acting Thai Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai to de-escalate the growing armed confrontation between the two countries. The meeting is scheduled to take place in Putrajaya on Monday at 3 pm. Anwar, who is also chair of ASEAN, last week proposed brokering a peace deal with the two warring parties after a border conflict erupted. Tensions have been simmering since a May 28 skirmish between Cambodian and Thai forces in the Preah Vihear area, in the northern part of the kingdom. For decades, the two ASEAN member states have been involved in a protracted and bitter dispute over an 817-km non-demarcated border that spiralled into a bloody conflict in northern Cambodia last week.

SST Issue In Construction, Policy On Businesses Run By Foreigners Among Dewan Rakyat's Focus Today

GENERAL KUALA LUMPUR, July 28 (Bernama) -- The government's move to ensure ongoing construction projects are not affected by the Sales and Services Tax (SST) and the current policy on the freedom of foreign nationals to operate businesses in Malaysia are among the highlights of today's Dewan Rakyat sitting. According to the Order Paper on the official Parliament website, Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis) has asked the Works Minister to state the categories of construction projects exempted from SST and what measures the ministry is taking to ensure the tax does not impact ongoing construction projects. He also wanted to know whether the MADANI Government would consider granting a grace period before imposing the SST on the construction sector. At the same session, Mohd Hasnizan Harun (PN-Hulu Selangor) will ask the Minister of Housing and Local Government about the current policy on the freedom of foreign nationals to operate businesses in Malaysia, especially in the retail sector. He has also requested clarification on the action taken against premises registered under a citizen's name but fully operated by foreign nationals, including cases involving the use of a wife's name who is a citizen. Also to draw attention is a question on the abuse of stray animals, raised by Wong Chen (PH-Subang) to the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security. Wong wishes to know whether the ministry will introduce a comprehensive national framework to address stray animal abuse and whether it will collaborate with non-governmental organisations, local authorities and animal welfare experts to implement an integrated and holistic approach. Following the Q&A session, the Dewan Rakyat sitting is scheduled to proceed with the tabling of two bills for first reading, namely the Cross-Border Insolvency Bill 2025 and the Education (Amendment) Bill 2025. The sitting then continues with the second reading of the Fees (Pengkalan Kubor Ferry) (Validation) Bill 2025, the Poisons (Amendment) Bill 2025 and the Offenders Compulsory Attendance (Amendment) Bill 2025.
