India vs England series undergoes late broadcast change - Here's how you can watch IND vs ENG Tests after revised rights

Hindustan Times4 days ago

In a first-of-its-kind deal in Indian cricket telecasting, the two largest broadcasters have reached a deal to share the rights for India's upcoming five-match Test series in England, as per a report in Cricbuzz. While Sony Entertainment Network owns the rights to broadcast matches being played in England through to 2031, a Cricbuzz report states that the digital streaming rights for this marquee series have been sub-licensed to JioHotstar, who will now broadcast the five-match Test series on their streaming platform.
JioHotstar, which also has the broadcasting rights for the Indian national team's home assignments, ICC tournaments, and the ongoing IPL, has pulled off a coup by gaining these rights and now dominates Indian cricket airwaves after earlier agreeing a deal for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia as well.
Nevertheless, Sony retained the linear broadcasting rights, meaning the television broadcast will remain in the Sony Sports suite. Sony re-extended the rights to broadcast English cricket last year for eight years, but as per the report, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) facilitated a deal, with an agreement being reached to hold the digital broadcast on JioHotstar's combined platform instead.
To reiterate, Sony Sports will maintain broadcasting rights on television, but the Test series will be broadcast on JioHotstar on digital streaming platforms, including mobile phones and smart TVs.
Reliance Jio and Star Sports merged earlier this year in a landmark deal that created a new JioHotstar platform. This platform has broadcasted the WPL, the ICC Champions Trophy, and most recently, the IPL. It also retains the hosting rights for the English Premier League, while Sony Sports has been the destination for European Champions League football, ATP tennis, and the UFC.
The two parties are expected to release a statement announcing this deal later today, with the partnership expected to extend to the white-ball series being played in England in 2026. The deal was in the works for over a month, but reached a conclusion in the past 24 hours.
India's tour of England begins with a series of tour games, but the series proper will begin on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds. This will be the first of five matches for the Pataudi Trophy, currently held by India after their dominating 4-1 series win at home in early 2024.

IGNOU, IIT Bombay launch AI initiative for regional language learning

Distance learning platform leader Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on Project Udaan, an AI-driven translation platform to promote inclusive and equitable education. Udaan integrates optical character recognition (OCR), layout preservation, domain-specific glossaries, and human-in-the-loop editing to deliver high-fidelity translation of academic and technical content into Indian languages. Through this collaboration, IGNOU aims to make its extensive educational resources available in multiple regional languages, thereby expanding access for learners across the country, a statement read. The collaboration supports the goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly the emphasis on multilingual education, digital access, and academic equity, the statement added. The signing ceremony, held on Friday at the IGNOU Headquarters, was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of IGNOU. The event was also attended by senior academic leadership. Prof. Ganesh Ramakrishnan, the chair professor in Digital Entrepreneurship at the Bank of Baroda and principal investigator of Udaan, represented IIT Bombay at the event. 'This partnership with IIT Bombay is a powerful alignment with our vision to democratize higher education. Through Project Udaan, we aim to bridge the language divide and empower learners in every corner of India,' the V-C of IGNOU said. Prof. Ramakrishnan said, 'Udaan is designed to serve the linguistic and educational diversity of India. This MoU marks a critical step in translating that vision into impact at scale, with IGNOU's vast learner base.' Prof. Nayantara Padhi, a professor at the School of Management Studies and MoU coordinator from IGNOU, said, 'This collaboration reflects IGNOU's commitment to educational equity and innovation.' 'By integrating AI-enabled translation tools with our academic delivery, we are opening new doors for learners in regional and rural contexts who will now have access to high-quality content in their own languages,' she added. Mumbai Indians Star Suryakumar Yadav Eyes Huge AB De Villiers Record Ahead Of IPL 2025 Playoffs

Star Mumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav has plenty of individual records and accomplishments to chase as he gets ready for the all-important crucial eliminator game against Gujarat Titans (GT) at Mullanpur on Friday. Another 48 runs will help him overcome South African icon AB de Villiers non-opening batter IPL record. MI and GT will be battling it out at Mullanpur, with the winner joining Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Qualifier two for a spot in the final against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). While the loser will meet the end of their IPL journey. So far in the tournament, Suryakumar is the top run-getter for the team with 640 runs in 14 innings at an average of 71.11 and a strike rate of 167.97, with five half-centuries. His best score is 73*. He is also the third-highest run-getter in the competition so far. As per ESPNCricinfo, he is the first-ever non-opening batter to have scored over 600 runs in a season twice (in 2023 as well, with 605 runs in 16 matches, including a century and five fifties). If he scores 48 more runs, he will go past De Villiers' run tally of 687 from 2016 to become the non-opening batter with the highest number of runs in a single IPL edition. The veteran has been absolutely amazing for MI in a variety of conditions and match situations so far, but it is the middle-over phase of overs seven to sixteen that he has mastered the most. He has scored 41.17 per cent of MI's runs in this phase, a total of 480 runs, the highest by a single batter in middle overs for his team in this competition so far. In 11 IPL knockout matches, Suryakumar has scored 329 runs in 10 innings at an average of 36.55, with a strike rate of 133.19 and three half-centuries. His best score is 71*. Will Suryakumar score big and have a gigantic 700-run season to his name? Squads: Gujarat Titans Squad: Shubman Gill(c), Sai Sudharsan, Kusal Mendis(w), Sherfane Rutherford, Shahrukh Khan, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Arshad Khan, Gerald Coetzee, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Anuj Rawat, Mahipal Lomror, Ishant Sharma, Washington Sundar, Jayant Yadav, Dasun Shanaka, Karim Janat, Kulwant Khejroliya, Manav Suthar, Kumar Kushagra, Gurnoor Brar, Nishant Sindhu Mumbai Indians Squad: Rohit Sharma, Jonny Bairstow(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Charith Asalanka, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya(c), Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah, Ashwani Kumar, Karn Sharma, Raj Bawa, Satyanarayana Raju, Bevon Jacobs, Robin Minz, Arjun Tendulkar, Raghu Sharma, Krishnan Shrijith, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Richard Gleeson, Reece Topley.

IND-A Vs ENG Lions: Karun Nair, Sarfaraz Khan Pushes India-A To 86/2 At Lunch On Day 1

Last Updated: Karun Nair and Sarfaraz Khan keep India A in the hunt after both the opening batters fall cheaply before lunch in Day 1 of the unofficial Test against the England Lions. India A's Karun Nair and Sarfaraz Khan put up a decent fight until lunch was called on the opening day of the unofficial Test against the England Lions in Canterbury on Friday. Both Karun and Sarfaraz looked fairly comfortable out in the middle after the Lions' bowlers managed to get the A-skipper, Abhimanyu Easwaran, out fairly cheaply. Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the other hand, started slowly but looked to find his groove but he also managed to get out in a rather disappointing manner. The left-hander was quite at ease against the English bowlers for a large part of his over an hour-long stay, but chose to play an expansive drive off pacer Eddie Jack, only to be caught behind by skipper James Rew. However, Karun, who played some delightful drives through the cover, and Sarfaraz negated the Lions' bowlers effectively during their unbroken 35-run alliance for the third wicket. Since the start of the second session, the two are marching on towards a fifty-run stand. A strong performance from Sarfaraz could certainly get him to push for a spot in the Indian squad if the batters are not able to deliver according to the expected levels. He was snubbed from the senior squad despite being in the side for their previous tour of Australia. The Mumbai batter will have a lot to prove once again and will look to push himself to get a call-up for the side. Meanwhile, Karun Nair will also look to put up an impressive showing in hopes of getting a starting spot in India's Playing XI for the England series as well. After making his return to the senior side in 2017, he has worked his way back to the Indian test team, where he hopes to make a big name for himself. Brief scores: India A: 86/2 in 27 overs (Karun Nair 26 batting, Sarfaraz Khan 17 batting). (with PTI Inputs)
