Gurgaon: Badshahpur MLA and Haryana industries and commerce, forest and environment minister
Rao Narbir Singh
on Friday said he would conduct an
investigation
at his level into the functioning of
sweeping machines
and super sucker machines run by
MCG
.MCG provides a substantial monthly payment of Rs 70.5 lakh each month besides the fuel charges to a private contractor.
At a meeting of MCG and MCM officials, the cabinet minister, who chaired it, expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of sweeping machines and super sucker machines. While Gurgaon has 16 sweeping machines, MCM has six sweeping machines for Manesar.
Narbir said, "Officials from Gurgaon and Manesar corporations were asked to share the number of machines and their route plans with my office. I would personally investigate this with the respective area's RWA."TOI reported on April 22 that the sweeping machines managed by the private contractor for MCG are underperforming. One of the sweeping machines worked only for 28 minutes daily, sources said, citing a virtual meeting led by urban local bodies commissioner and secretary Vikas Gupta. MCG has nine super sucker machines, which are used for cleaning sewer lines and desilting drains. It was pointed out only six of nine super sucker machines are working, following which Narbir decided to launch a probe into the matter.Narbir instructed both corporations to examine the state of public toilets under their jurisdiction, noting their deteriorated condition. It was highlighted that MCM invested crores in constructing public facilities in Manesar. According to sources, the minister asked MCM additional commissioner Jitender Gandhi to probe the matter in Manesar. The environment minister said public toilets constructed by MCG and Manesar civic bodies are in poor condition due to lack of use and inadequate cleaning."Waste of public tax money in this manner is unacceptable. An investigation into the entire work should be conducted and corporation officials should identify locations and invite private firms for maintenance so that the public can benefit from this facility," the minister said. The meeting, which brought together corporation officials, addressed a comprehensive 19-point agenda covering various city matters. While assessing monsoon preparations, he asked MCG to provide detailed financial records of stormwater drain maintenance spanning the previous decade since 2014.Reviewing the stormwater drain cleaning work, Narbir instructed that written consent be obtained from the respective area's RWA after cleaning is completed before making payments to contractors. He also directed MCG to present a detailed report on the expenditure on stormwater drain cleaning since 2014.The cabinet minister asked corporation officials for detailed reports on the cleaning of stormwater drains and sewer systems within wards, the efficiency of STPs installed in corporation areas and zone-wise cleaning arrangements. He ordered officials to get all drains and sewer lines cleaned by June 15 to avoid any inconvenience to the public. Narbir said negligence in cleaning works won't be tolerated and action will be taken against responsible officials. He said the responsibilities of officials assigned to waterlogging-prone points should be shared with the respective area's RWA and councillor so that they can be contacted directly in emergencies.Expressing dissatisfaction with the functioning of the corporation's engineering wing, Rao asked officials to ensure that all sewer covers in the corporation area are at the designated drainage level. He instructed improvements in the quality of road and tile construction, ensuring that construction materials are sample-tested in govt labs. The cabinet minister also directed corporation officials to explore options for establishing a testing lab in Gurgaon.

Belagavi Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama celebrates silver jubilee

Belagavi: An environment should be created in the country where followers of different religions can live in harmony. Vivekananda's thoughts are a model for a life of harmony, coexistence and peace. They are complementary to the progress of the country, said law and parliamentary affairs and tourism minister HK Patil while attending the silver jubilee celebration of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in Belagavi on Sunday. The site holds profound historical and spiritual importance as Swami Vivekananda stayed here for nine days during his visit to Belagavi in 1892. Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, president of Ramakrishna Math and Mission Belur; Swami Atmaprananand of Ramakrishna Ashram, Belagavi; DR Patil, ex-MLA Gadag; and VV Bhaskar, former director general of police, Karnataka, participated. Inaugurating the event, Patil said Vivekananda's dream would come true only if God is recognised in the service to humanity. Untouchability, ignorance, and superstition should be eradicated in the country, and human service should flourish. Untouchability is still rampant in rural areas. "The feeling that we are all one has not yet come to all people. When that feeling comes, then we will have perfectly followed Vivekananda's message," he said. The state govt, adopting the visionary ideas of Vivekananda, is trying to bring even the most marginalised person of society into the mainstream. According to the United Nations standards, those who earn less than Rs 200 per day are poor. The state govt is providing an income guarantee of at least Rs 5,000 per month to every family, he said. Former MLA DR Patil said the activities of Ramakrishna Ashram are aimed at building a better society. Cooperation will be provided for all the activities of the ashram. Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, president of the Ramakrishna Math, Belur, said the Ramakrishna Ashrama, Belagavi, has been a beacon of Vivekananda's ideals in North Karnataka. Recalling his days of association with the Ramakrishna Ashrama, former DIG VV Bhaskar expressed pride about the service of the Ashram. Dr Mallikarjun V Joli, the chief executive of KLE Cancer Hospital Belagavi, delivered the vote of thanks.
