Minister Rao Narbir Singh orders probe into MCG's Rs 70L monthly sweeping machine contract

Gurgaon: Badshahpur MLA and Haryana industries and commerce, forest and environment minister Rao Narbir Singh on Friday said he would conduct an investigation at his level into the functioning of sweeping machines and super sucker machines run by MCG .MCG provides a substantial monthly payment of Rs 70.5 lakh each month besides the fuel charges to a private contractor. At a meeting of MCG and MCM officials, the cabinet minister, who chaired it, expressed dissatisfaction over the functioning of sweeping machines and super sucker Gurgaon has 16 sweeping machines, MCM has six sweeping machines for Manesar. Narbir said, "Officials from Gurgaon and Manesar corporations were asked to share the number of machines and their route plans with my office. I would personally investigate this with the respective area's RWA."TOI reported on April 22 that the sweeping machines managed by the private contractor for MCG are underperforming. One of the sweeping machines worked only for 28 minutes daily, sources said, citing a virtual meeting led by urban local bodies commissioner and secretary Vikas Gupta. MCG has nine super sucker machines, which are used for cleaning sewer lines and desilting drains. It was pointed out only six of nine super sucker machines are working, following which Narbir decided to launch a probe into the instructed both corporations to examine the state of public toilets under their jurisdiction, noting their deteriorated condition. It was highlighted that MCM invested crores in constructing public facilities in Manesar. According to sources, the minister asked MCM additional commissioner Jitender Gandhi to probe the matter in environment minister said public toilets constructed by MCG and Manesar civic bodies are in poor condition due to lack of use and inadequate cleaning."Waste of public tax money in this manner is unacceptable. An investigation into the entire work should be conducted and corporation officials should identify locations and invite private firms for maintenance so that the public can benefit from this facility," the minister meeting, which brought together corporation officials, addressed a comprehensive 19-point agenda covering various city matters. While assessing monsoon preparations, he asked MCG to provide detailed financial records of stormwater drain maintenance spanning the previous decade since the stormwater drain cleaning work, Narbir instructed that written consent be obtained from the respective area's RWA after cleaning is completed before making payments to contractors. He also directed MCG to present a detailed report on the expenditure on stormwater drain cleaning since cabinet minister asked corporation officials for detailed reports on the cleaning of stormwater drains and sewer systems within wards, the efficiency of STPs installed in corporation areas and zone-wise cleaning arrangements. He ordered officials to get all drains and sewer lines cleaned by June 15 to avoid any inconvenience to the public. Narbir said negligence in cleaning works won't be tolerated and action will be taken against responsible said the responsibilities of officials assigned to waterlogging-prone points should be shared with the respective area's RWA and councillor so that they can be contacted directly in dissatisfaction with the functioning of the corporation's engineering wing, Rao asked officials to ensure that all sewer covers in the corporation area are at the designated drainage instructed improvements in the quality of road and tile construction, ensuring that construction materials are sample-tested in govt labs. The cabinet minister also directed corporation officials to explore options for establishing a testing lab in Gurgaon.
