Oppo A5i and A5i Pro launch with Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1, Pro has 6,000mAh Si/C battery
Oppo quietly launched A5i and A5i Pro, though they are not entirely novel designs. Both are based on the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1, which is a rebrand of the Snapdragon 662. The same chip was used in the Oppo A5 Pro 4G, which shares many similarities with these two new models.
Both A5i phones feature 6.67' LCD displays with HD+ resolution and 90Hz refresh rate. They can reach 1,000 nits of brightness. Outdoor visibility is further helped by the anti-glare coating. The Pro also has a 6.67' LCD (HD+, 90Hz), but it is a higher quality IPS panel.

The front and back are protected by China Southern Glass and Panda Glass. Oppo lists both as 'twice reinforced' and the phones have undergone MIL-STD-810H testing and got a certification from SGS.
However, ingress protection on the A5i is pretty basic with an IP54 rating. The Pro model is a bit better at IP65. Both phones support wet touch.
The A5i is powered by a 5,100mAh battery, which promises to retain at least 80% of its capacity after four years of use. The phone supports 45W fast charging.
Vanilla A5i: 5,100mAh battery • 45W charging
If you want more juice, the Pro has a larger 6,000mAh Si/C battery (still with 45W charging). The bigger battery makes the Pro a bit thicker and heavier, but not by much – it's 7.68mm/186g for the vanilla and 7.99mm/193g for the Pro.
The differences between vanilla and Pro models continue. The vanilla model has a very basic 8MP main camera on the back, the front houses a 5MP module. Both are limited to 1080p @ 30fps video recording.
The Oppo A5i Pro has better ingress protection and a bigger 6,000mAh battery.
The Oppo A5i Pro stands out with a 50MP rear camera with a wider aperture (f/1.85 vs. f/2.0), but the front module is still only a 5MP camera. There's a secondary module on the back and since its function is not listed, we're assuming a depth sensor.
While both phones are powered by the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 – an old 11nm design with Cortex-A73 and A53 CPU cores plus an Adreno 610 GPU – there will be a small performance difference between them. The Pro model has 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The vanilla model has less RAM, 4/6GB of LPDDR4X, and 64/128GB of slower eMMC 5.1 storage.

As the chipset's name suggests, it only supports 4G LTE networking. Local connections are handled with dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth with aptX. The vanilla model also has a 3.5mm headphone jack, the Pro doesn't, but it does have NFC and an IR blaster. Finally, both phones have a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
The Oppo A5i Pro is available in the Philippines – right now, it's exclusively sold through Shopee, but starting on June 20 it will also be available from Oppo's TikTok shop and Lazada. The Pro is priced at PHP 9,000, which converts to $160/€140/₹14,000.

We haven't found Oppo A5i in stores just yet. The A5i comes in Starry Purple and Nebula Red, the A5i Pro comes in Midnight Purple.

MediaTek Dimensity 9500's announcement date tipped
Qualcomm is unveiling the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 in late September, and its main competitor will undoubtedly be MediaTek's Dimensity 9500. With that in mind, you may have been wondering when to expect it to be announced. According to a new rumor from the prolific Chinese leaker who goes by Digital Chat Station on Weibo, MediaTek will one-up Qualcomm by unveiling its next flagship chipset even earlier. Chinese smartphone makers are expected to then introduce their next-gen flagship devices (the ones that usually come in October to December) quite quickly after the chips take the stage - most could actually become official by the end of September. If true, September is going to be a very, very busy month in the mobile world - let's not forget Apple's new iPhones are coming then as well. So for some Android brands, their current flagship devices will only have been for sale (in China at least) for 9-10 months before their successors get introduced. It remains to be seen how the buyers of those phones will take all of this. Source (in Chinese)

The latest Galaxy S25 update hides a big hint
Samsung has launched the June 2025 security update for Galaxy S25 series phones. The update might seem insignificant at first, but hides an important change that may be part of the groundwork preparations for One UI 8. The Galaxy S25's June update is live in Version: S938NKSS4AYE5/S938NOKR4AYE5/S938NKSS4AYE5 The bootloader is updated to v4; now we can expect One UI 8 beta 2. — Tarun Vats (@tarunvats33) June 10, 2025 The security update has first started rolling out in South Korea, but we fully expect it will expand to more regions soon. It includes the usual security patches and minor stability improvements. However, it also upgrades the bootloader version on all Galaxy S25 models — including the Galaxy S25 , Galaxy S25 Plus and Galaxy S25 Ultra — to version 4. This might sound like a small modification, it essentially locks the devices into a new firmware branch, one that aligns with Samsung's internal testing for One UI 8. That said, the update does not add any One UI 8 features at present, but it does indicate Samsung is getting near its upcoming software will base One UI 8 on Android 16 (which Google just teased) while planning its release for July together with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. This approach allows Samsung to follow its standard annual schedule for major One UI updates during mid-year. Samsung launched the One UI 8 beta early. | Image credit — PhoneArena" Samsung will launch One UI 8.0 as its eighth major software update, which — as is the case with software updates nowadays — will focus on incremental improvements rather than fundamental changes. According to early hands-on reports, One UI 8 includes subtle UI modifications like encircled buttons in pop-out menus in apps such as Gallery, but otherwise looks nearly identical to One UI 7. The focus this year seems to be fine-tuning and improving consistency, rather than redesigning the of the more notable additions is Now Brief, a Galaxy AI feature that provides personalized suggestions and reminders based on user routines. Previously limited to the Galaxy S25 , this feature will now reach more devices thanks to One UI 8. Through this update, Samsung will transfer its latest flagship features to different devices. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 phones will obtain log video recording capability through this update, which is currently only available in the Galaxy S25 series. One UI 8 introduces the following features in addition to AI and camera improvements: Quick Share file sharing becomes more accessible through its updated functionality. file sharing becomes more accessible through its updated functionality. The Samsung Internet browser receives a new interface design. browser receives a design. High-resolution display support has been improved in Samsung DeX . support has been improved in . The new calendar system features smarter tools for managing reminders and scheduling events . The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 will be the first to receive the update, before it reaches the Galaxy S25 series and later on the mid-range and budget Galaxy phones. The bootloader switch has been activated, and internal testing is complete, so Galaxy S25 users will see One UI 8 signs arrive soon.

Honor Magic V5 to come in a shiny new color
Honor is rumored to be skipping the number 4 and going from the Magic V3 which launched last year to the Magic V5 which we're expecting in a few weeks (blame tetraphobia). Now a new rumor out of China purportedly shares the Magic V5's colorways, and one stands out - gold. It used to be all the rage many years ago, then it fell out of fashion, and while you can still find hints of it here and there, it's been a while since we've had a properly shiny gold smartphone. Honor Magic V3 Aside from the blingy colorway, there will also be three other options: black, white, and Dunhuang, which is interesting because it's the name of a city. A past leak from the same source claimed the Magic V5 would come with a 6,100 mAh battery with support for 66W wired charging. Other rumors have said it would be under 9 mm thick, retaking the thinness crown from the Oppo Find N5, and it should come with a 200 MP periscope telephoto camera apparently, an 8-inch folding screen, a 6.45-inch cover display, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC at the helm.
