Rays' Taylor Walls ejected after tapping on helmet, erupting at umpire in loss to Astros

Yahoo2 days ago

Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Taylor Walls was livid on Sunday afternoon at Daikin Park.
Walls was thrown out of the Rays' 1-0 loss to the Houston Astros after he got into it with home plate umpire Nick Lentz over what he thought was a missed call. Walls then batted the top of his helmet just barely, which is what prompted Lentz to throw him out of the game.

Once Walls realized what had happened, he was furious. He had to be held back multiple times before finally making his way into the clubhouse.
'I said that ball's down, and then I heard the dugout kind of yapping at him a little bit,' Walls said, via Fan Duel's Ryan Bass. 'I may have reiterated that ball's way down, but past that, I didn't say anything. I was ticked off.'
The issue, it seemed, was that Walls tapped the top of his helmet — which was the same gesture that players used to call for a challenge throughout spring training. That, however, wasn't carried over into the regular season.
That gesture, Walls insisted, was accidental.
'I have no recollection of it, but after seeing the video, it looks like I tapped my helmet,' he said. 'But it was totally unintentional, something I was not consciously aware of at all. I'm looking right at him when I'm doing it with no sincere, at that point, maybe I was frustrated with the strike call, but there was no sincerity of trying to show the guy up … He comes out, and he's like, we're not doing that. You're out of here, and tosses me.'
The Astros held on and closed out the half inning to grab the 1-0 win. They scored their only run of the night in the first inning after Christian Walker hit an RBI single.
The Rays, who now sit at 30-29 on the year, had just two hits in the game. They'll be back in action on Tuesday when they kick off a three-game series against the Texas Rangers at home.

While Walls said he felt bad for his reaction, he's not sure he's entirely in the wrong here.

Mike Flanagan Is Working Closely with Stephen King on THE DARK TOWER TV Adaptation: "I'm Not Gonna Let Him Down" — GeekTyrant

Mike Flanagan is still hard at work developing his adaptation of Stephen King's magnum opus The Dark Tower series, and according to the filmmaker, it's just taking time because, well… it's that big. In a recent interview with ComicBook, Flanagan offered a candid update when asked about the long-gestating project: 'It's not that I've put it down. It's just that the thing is so big, it's like building an oil tanker. We've been moving it forward this whole time. 'It's just, that's how big it is. It's constantly in the works, and you better believe as often as you guys may want to ask about it, Stephen King is asking me about it more, and I'm not gonna let him down.' Flanagan is 100% committed to the project and he's collaborating directly with the author himself. King even confirmed earlier this year that he's actively writing material for the series: 'All I can say is, it's happening. I am writing stuff now, and I think that's all I want to say, because the next thing you know, I'll stir up a bunch of stuff I don't necessarily want to stir up yet. I'm in process right now, and to say too much feels like a jinx.' While Flanagan's Dark Tower hasn't landed at a streamer or officially gone into production yet, it is fully outlined. The plan is to make it a five-season series that gives the epic eight-book saga the breathing room it needs. If there's anyone who will be able to do it right, it's Flanagan. His track record with King's work speaks for itself: Gerald's Game , Doctor Sleep , and the upcoming The Life of Chuck , which hits theaters June 6. All these projects have all shown he gets the tone, the heart, and the horror that comes with adapting King's work. He's also developing a new take on Carrie . When Flanagan first announced the project, he said that the pilot script is 'one of my favorite things I've ever gotten to work on.' He shared at the time: 'I wrote a pilot, we view it as a as a series that's going at least five seasons. And having lived with this project as long as I have, I have an enormous amount of it worked out in my brain. 'But I have a pilot script I'm thrilled with and a very detailed outline for the first season and a broader outline for the subsequent seasons. 'I think eventually, if we're able to get it going, there are some other writers I want to fold into that process whom I've worked with before; I think they would be really fabulous for a very small, intimate writers room where we can continue to break it. 'I'll tell you, more than half of my life, I've closed my eyes and been able to watch a lot of this play out, I've dreamed about this. 'That first shot which comes right off at the first incredible sentence of the first book, The Gunslinger, I've had that image just rattling around in my head since I was an undergrad. It's going to have to get out of there eventually, I really need to get it out of my head. 'The pilot script is one of my favorite things I've ever gotten to work on. It's been surreal working on that. So we've been floored and grateful that Stephen King trusts us with such an undertaking, something so precious to him, and we hope to find the right partners to realize it.' The director has been adamant that his adaptation will stick as close to the source material as possible. Back in 2022, Flanagan said: 'It would look like the books. The way not to do The Dark Tower is to try to turn it into something else, to try to make it Star Wars or make it Lord of the Rings . 'It is what it is, what it is is perfect. It's just as exciting as all of those things and just as immersive. It's a story about a tiny group of people, all the odds in the whole world are against them, and they come together. As long as it's that, it'll be fine and there won't be a dry eye in the house.' I cant wait to see what he does with this story!

We did our gender reveal at 30,000 feet with complete strangers — it was the best decision of our lives

These expecting parents pulled off their epic gender reveal with flying colors. Temporarily turning the friendly skies pink and blue, a couple, Katrín María Blöndal, 24, and Anton Örn Hilmarsson, 27, hosted a celebration — attended by complete strangers — to toast their incoming infant during a flight to Paris. 'This might be the first time in history that someone finds out the gender of their baby somewhere over the North Atlantic,' a flight attendant with Iceland's PLAY Airlines announced to a cabin full of excited passengers-turned-partygoers. Advertisement 4 An expectant mother and father, Katrín María Blöndal and Anton Örn Hilmarsson (above), learned the gender of their unborn baby with an in-flight party on Play Airlines. PLAY airlines Air travelers held up small pink or blue cards, indicating their best guesses on the baby's gender, per Instagram footage of the super-fly fête. Katrín and Anton, from Reykjavik, Iceland, then made their way to the front of the plane, where a customized cake, topped with decorative baby elephants and edible pearls, and Champagne flutes were waiting. Advertisement The pair, already parents of two young sons and a daughter from previous relationships, used the glasses to scoop into the confection, which boasted a thick layer of blue frosting — revealing that their little love-to-be is a boy. 4 Passengers on the PLAY Airlines flight to Paris helped the lovebirds celebrate their baby-to-be by guessing its gender before the big reveal. PLAY airlines 4 The Iceland-based duo discovered that they were having a boy, as revealed by a custom-made cake. PLAY airlines 'We couldn't have imagined a more perfect way to find out — we're having a boy,' Katrín and Anton said in a statement to The Post. Advertisement The sweethearts began dating in January 2024, after years of close friendship. Anton works as a forklift operator for a pharmaceutical company, and Katrín is in school studying Education and Pedagogy. 'This is our first child together,' they added, 'and to have the big reveal take place in the sky was unforgettable.' It's a memorable milestone that many mommies and daddies like to mark in a major way. Advertisement While some posh pregnant people prefer to learn the sex of their buns in the oven with $20,000 Birkin bags, others, such as Florida-based foodie Rosanna Fontana, favor meatballs as their gender reveal goodies. Then, of course, there are daredevils like influencer Lele Pons, who detonated faux TNT to explosively determine whether she'd soon be welcoming a son or daughter. 4 Katrín and Anton, both aviation enthusiasts, said their sky-high celebration made their gender reveal 'unforgettable.' PLAY airlines The splashiness of a baby-themed bomb notwithstanding, Katrín and Anton are content with their slightly more discreet shindig at 30,000 feet. 'We're incredibly grateful to the crew for making this such a special flight,' the twosome told The Post. 'We'll never forget.'
