RecipeTin Eats cookbook author Nagi Maehashi breaks silence on Erin Patterson trial after mushroom killer used her recipe to make deadly beef Wellington in murder plot
Patterson was on Monday found guilty of murdering her three in-laws with death cap mushrooms in a beef Wellington that she served them for lunch in 2023.
Chef Maehashi revealed on Tuesday that she was saddened that her recipe, which she created to bring 'joy and happiness' to others, was at the centre of such a horrific murder and subsequent trial.
Maehashi's beef Wellington appeared in the 'Dinner' volume of her RecipeTin Eats series, published in 2022.
'It is of course upsetting to learn that one of my recipes – perhaps the one I've spent more hours perfecting than any other – something that I created to bring joy and happiness, is entangled in this tragic situation,' the cook wrote in an Instagram Stories post on Tuesday.

Maehashi addressed the statement to the 'journalists of Australia' and unusually added a red and white mushroom emoji.
Crime scene photos supplied to the Supreme Court of Victoria showed Patterson's copy of the RecipeTin Eats cookbook sitting on a counter with a section bookmarked.
The beef Wellington recipe within was used as the basis for a tainted dish, which was modified by Patterson to include poisonous death cap mushrooms.
The mother-of-two had pleaded not guilty to the murders of Don and Gail Patterson, and Gail's sister, Heather Wilkinson.
They died after consuming death caps in the beef Wellington during lunch at Patterson's Leongatha home in southeast Victoria on July 29, 2023.
Only Pastor Ian Wilkinson survived her plot - a blunder Patterson would live to regret, and will now serve time for after also being found guilty of attempting to murder him.
Asked to deliver a verdict, the jury foreperson - one of only five women to sit on the original 15-person panel - simply stated, 'guilty'.
The verdict produced an audible gasp from those within the packed courtroom, which included members of the Patterson clan.
It comes just weeks after Maehashi made global headlines by accusing TikTok star and fellow cookbook author Brooke Bellamy of plagiarism.
In a post shared on her website and social media, Maehashi claimed Bellamy's debut cookbook Bake With Brooki featured two recipes that closely resembled her own: caramel slice and baklava.
Maehashi alleged Penguin Australia, the publisher of Bellamy's cookbook, had 'exploited' her work without permission.
'To me, the similarities are so specific and detailed that calling these a coincidence feels disingenuous,' Maehashi claimed.
'There are also recipes from other authors… where the similarities are so extensive, dismissing it as coincidence would be absurd (in my opinion).'
Maehashi said she felt compelled to speak out against the publishing giant.
'Staying silent protects this kind of behaviour,' she said.
Bellamy has vehemently denied the accusations.

The youngest of the four men convicted over South Australia 's 'bodies in the barrels' serial killings has been granted parole. James Vlassakis has spent 26 years behind bars after being found guilty of being involved in four of the 11 murders between 1992 and 1999. At its monthly meeting on Tuesday, SA's parole board approved his application to serve the remainder of his life sentence under conditions in the community. Parole Board chief Frances Nelson told AAP that Vlassakis 'does not represent a risk to the community' and would be sent to the Adelaide pre-release centre for up to 12 months and undergo a resocialisation process. Vlassakis was 19 when he committed the crimes and was sentenced to life with a minimum term of 26 years, which expires in August 2025. Ms Nelson said she was 'sure that the victims feel he has been insufficiently punished'. 'That's quite common for victims to feel that way, but that's not our role,' she said. 'Sentencing and punishment is a matter for a judge, not for a parole board, and the legislation prevents us from imposing our own view on sentence, so our role is simply to assess whether he fulfils the legislative criteria for parole.' Snowtown murders accomplice Mark Ray Haydon, 66, was released on parole in May 2024 to live in the community under strict supervision. Vlassakis was also a key prosecution witness against John Bunting and Robert Wagner, who were found guilty of 11 and 10 murders respectively. Both are serving life sentences with no chance of parole. Vlassakis would be moved to the pre-release centre 'provided there is no request to review our decision', Ms Nelson said. 'There is a 60-day period which would enable either the attorney general or the commissioner for victims rights or the police commissioner to apply for a review,' she said. Commissioner for Victims Rights Sarah Quick told AAP the decision would 'understandably bring fresh pain and anger to those who have already suffered beyond measure'. 'These individuals are not only worn down by their trauma, but also by the ongoing criminal justice processes,' she said. 'The prospect of Mr Vlassakis re-entering the community is a difficult reality for the victims and will require a significant emotional adjustment, adding to an already unbearable burden. 'We must never forget that - for the friends, family and loved ones of murder victims - the impact of the killing does not end simply because a prison term has ended. It is something they live with every day for the rest of their lives.' A suppression order on images of Vlassakis remains in effect, and there has been a high level of secrecy regarding his imprisonment. In July, Haydon appeared in the SA Supreme Court, where an application for an extended supervision order for a high-risk offender was approved, and most of the conditions of an interim order imposed in 2024 were confirmed.

HAUNTING security footage shows armed murder suspect Austin Drummond stalking a neighborhood and trying to get into buildings. Drummond is a wanted man as part of a probe into the deaths of four family members - whose remains were discovered hours after a baby girl was found abandoned on a random driveway. 6 6 He was named a suspect just one day after the victims were identified. The search for Drummond has been ongoing since July 31 and Jackson, Tennessee, cops have released footage of him stalking a neighborhood. In the footage from August 3, Drummond is armed with a rifle, sporting camouflaged gear, and wearing an orange backpack. In one clip, he's seen trying the door handle of the Cornerstone Community Church in Jackson. Cops found a white 2016 Audi Drummond was believed to have been driving in the Jackson area. Jackson is around 45 miles from Tigrett - an area in Dyer County where the baby was found abandoned. A 1988 Ford pickup truck investigators were looking for was found in Dyer County. In another video released by cops, Drummond was seen in an area, which looked to be at the back of a building. He comes into shot and appears to make a hand gesture. John Muffler, a former US Marshal, analyzed the videos and told NewsNation that it's possible someone may have been helping Drummond. Friday, August 1: Cops locate Drummond's damaged Audi A3 abandoned on a road in Jackson. Tanaka Brown has been arrested and is accused of being an accessory to first degree murder after the fact and tampering with evidence. Saturday, August 2: Agents arrest second man GiovontieThomas for accessory to first degree murder after the fact. They also locate a Ford pick up truck believed to be connected to Drummond in Dyer County. Monday, August 4: Dearrah Sanders is the third person to be arrested and charged for accessory to first degree murder after the fact. Jackson cops also release footage of Drummond, carrying a rifle and wearing camouflaged gear, trying to get into buildings and stalking driveways. The victims of the quadruple homicide were identified as parents Adrianna Williams, 20, and Matthew Wilson, 21. They were the parents of the baby that was found abandoned on the driveway. The baby's grandma, Cortney Rose, 38, and its uncle Braydon Williams, 15, were also killed. The bodies were found in Tiptonville - around 40 miles from Tigrett. Investigators believe the attack was targeted and investigators revealed Drummond dated a relative of one of the victims. Just 10 months before the slayings, Drummond was released from prison having served a sentence for armed robbery. While behind bars he shared photos of his cushy lifestyle. He boasted about receiving takeaway pizzas and his room contained game consoles and a television. In pictures, he was wearing prison overalls and seen with cell phones in his hands. He was out on bail after being charged with attempted murder for an incident that happened while behind bars. US Marshals have since admitted that it's possible Drummond may have left Tennessee.
