LeBron James And Austin Reaves Reportedly Don't Like Playing With Luka Doncic

Luka Doncic has gelled well on the court with LeBron James and Austin Reaves during their short time as teammates on the Los Angeles Lakers, but NBA insider John Gambadoro claims all is not well. On the latest episode of the Burns and Gambo Show, Gambadoro stated that James and Reaves do not like playing with Doncic.
"LeBron does not like playing with Luka," Gambadoro said. "Reaves does not like playing with Luka. Reaves does not like getting the ball with two seconds left on the shot clock. LeBron is not fond of playing with Luka. The Lakers are going to turn their attention to build around Luka, not LeBron.
"So, this is Luka's team now," Gambadoro added. "... He'll probably come back, but I wouldn't say it's a guaranteed no-brainer LeBron comes back to the Lakers because there are guys that don't like playing with Luka."
Gambadoro also wondered if James is struggling to handle the fact that a teammate of his is now the top dog for the first time in his career. All of this is quite interesting considering we haven't heard anything prior to this about any sort of discontent between them.
James has spoken glowingly of Doncic's game and has never really thrown shade at his teammate at any point. The 40-year-old has done that to others in the past, but not to him.
As for Reaves, a deeper look at his numbers suggests he should have liked playing with Doncic. In the games he played without the Slovenian this past season, he averaged 19.8 points, 6.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 0.2 blocks per game while shooting 45% from the field and 36.2% from beyond the arc.
When Doncic was playing alongside him, Reaves averaged 21.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.5 blocks per game. He was more efficient, too, shooting 47.9% from the field and 40.2% from beyond the arc.
There were some concerns that Doncic's arrival might hurt Reaves on offense, but that hasn't been the case. The five-time All-Star has instead made life easier on the court for Reaves, as evidenced by those numbers.
The only problem when it comes to these two playing together is that they're both not great defenders. The Minnesota Timberwolves repeatedly hunted them in the first round of the playoffs, and that contributed to the Lakers getting eliminated in five games.
Reaves, however, dismissed those defensive concerns regarding himself and Doncic. He thinks the two of them, along with James, will create chaos next season. It's unclear if these three will be playing together in 2025-26, though.
At first, there was talk about Reaves being traded this offseason as he could potentially hit free agency in 2026. It is expected that he will ask for a deal worth nearly $30 million per year, and that would be a significant financial commitment.
That trade talk has died down a bit now, though, and James is now the one potentially headed to the exit door. NBA insider Shams Charania stated that he could leave the Lakers if he doesn't think they can compete for a title.
Doncic looks to be the only one guaranteed to be with the Lakers long-term. The 26-year-old is widely expected to sign an extension in August, and the Lakers are making all their moves now with him in mind. This story was originally reported by Fadeaway World on Jul 2, 2025, where it first appeared.

Game Thread #86: Milwaukee Brewers (48-37) @ New York Mets (48-38)

After taking command of the matinee matchup with a grand slam from Joey Ortiz, the Brewers enter tonight in position to sweep the doubleheader and continue their excellent run. With a 16-9 record this month, it will be Jacob Misiorowski tasked with maintaining the momentum. His early results have shown he's up for the job. With a 1.13 ERA in three starts, Misiorowski has recorded the win in each of his outings. Advertisement On the mound for New York, Huascar Brazobán makes his 35th appearance of the season. While he sports a 3.83 ERA on the season, he's surrendered 12 runs in just his last 6 2⁄ 3 innings of work. The right-hander has only recorded one out in each of his last two appearances. After Brazobán, Blade Tidwell, another rookie, is expected to get the bulk of the innings. In the lineup, Sal Frelick sits atop the order, followed by William Contreras and Christian Yelich. Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, and Rhys Hoskins slot into the heart of the order. The final three hitters line up as Anthony Seigler, who made his major league debut earlier today, followed by Joey Ortiz and Eric Haase. For the doubleheader roster management, Craig Yoho was designated as the team's 27th man for tonight's game. First pitch for the night game is scheduled for 6:10 p.m. CT, and you'll be able to find the game on FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin and the Brewers Radio Network. Advertisement More from

Kelvin Obot graded a ‘game-changer' and instant impact player as Utes' headliner commit

Utah Utes assistant head coach and offensive line coach Jim Harding talks with white team players during the Utah Utes' 22 Forever spring game at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 19, 2025. | Brice Tucker, Deseret News The University of Utah football program landed its highest-rated commit of the 2026 recruiting class on Tuesday when offensive tackle Kelvin Obot announced his pledge to the Utes. Obot is a 6-foot-5, 265-pound talent out of Fruitland High in Idaho, where he plays under former Utah offensive tackle Jordan Gross, who was a first-round NFL draft pick who played for more than a decade with the Carolina Panthers. Advertisement Obot is a four-star recruit and rated the No. 1 prospect out of Idaho in the 2026 class, No. 9 among offensive tackles and the No. 131 recruit nationally in 247 Sports' composite ratings, which factor in ratings from 247 Sports, Rivals, On3 and ESPN. His 0.9406 composite score in 247 Sports' formula makes him the ninth-highest rated recruit in Utah history, per their metrics. On3 ranks Obot as the No. 9 overall player — and No. 3 offensive tackle — in the 2026 class. 'Athletic offensive tackle that has proven to be no match for Gem State-based competition over the years. Displays favorable reaction skills and body control as he's light on his feet and frequently in balance,' 247 Sports' Andrew Ivins wrote in evaluating Obot. Advertisement 'Quick out of a two-point stance as he tries to establish a wide base in his run sets. Patient in pass protection as he gains depth before engaging targets with well-timed strikes.' Could Obot be an immediate contributor when he gets on campus next year? CBS Sports, which teams with 247 Sports in its recruitment coverage efforts, has been grading major commitments as they happen, and has included Obot. CBS Sports developed a Commitment Impact Score, which rates a recruit from 1-10 on their projected impact on a program based on three factors — roster boost (50% of the final score), momentum hit and program fit/narrative. Advertisement In that formula, Obot was rated a 10 out of 10, or a 'game-changer.' 'Forget trying to buy premium offensive tackles in the transfer portal. Utah is one of the few programs that seems committed to developing them in-house,' Ivins wrote for CBS Sports, in scoring Obot's commitment to Utah. The Utes have a strong history of developing pro-caliber offensive tackles under offensive line coach Jim Harding. That's an indicator Obot could be the next one to cash in on the talent he brings to Salt Lake City. Four of Utah's top 10 all-time commits, according to 247 Sports, are offensive tackles. That includes Garett Bolles, who was a first-round draft pick in 2017 and has spent his entire career with the Denver Broncos, where he was a starter since Day 1. He was had a 0.9462 composite score, per 247 Sports, and is rated the eighth-best recruit in Utah history, just ahead of Obot. Advertisement Obot's addition to next year's class also is expected to come at a good time, as the Utes' starting offensive tackles this year, Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu, are both being projected as high-round NFL draft picks for 2026 — and perhaps first-rounders. Fano and Lomu were both a part of the Utes' 2023 class and had composite scores of 0.9530 and 0.9472, respectively, as recruits, placing Fano as the sixth-highest rated recruit in Utah history and Lomu seventh. 'With starting corner-protectors Spencer Fano and Caleb Lomu expected to be Day 1 or Day 2 selections in next year's NFL Draft, the Utes pulled off a major heist Tuesday, beating out Oregon, Michigan and Nebraska for Kelvin Obot,' Ivins wrote. 'Currently pegged as the nation's No. 10 offensive tackle, Obot is an athletic big man with elite body control that can mirror twitched-up pass rushers. He's far from a complete product, and will see a major step up in competition when he leaves Idaho, but he's one of the few tackles in the class that looks like he has a chance to man the left side of the line. That's big for Utah, which wasn't afraid to play both Fano and Lomu as youngsters.'
