Anwar ready to explain addendum issue if needed
The Prime Minister acknowledged that over two-thirds of Umno division leaders had raised the matter on Thursday, which called for the immediate enforcement of the royal addendum.
'Firstly, this matter has been referred to the courts and I do not go above the courts over this.
'I have also informed the Umno president and its leadership that I am ready to meet with them to explain if needed, to preserve the harmony (between parties in the coalition),' Anwar said after performing Friday prayers at a mosque in Putrajaya yesterday.
In a late-night media conference, Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah announced that 160 out of 191 Umno divisions urged Anwar to facilitate Najib's transition from Kajang Prison to house arrest without further delay.
Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for misusing RM42mil of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds.
Mohd Shafei said the Pahang palace confirmed the addendum's existence in a letter dated Jan 4, alongside the Court of Appeal's verdict on Jan 6.
On a separate matter, Anwar also said it was still too early to comment on the proposed appointment of American conservative figure Nick Adams as the United States Ambassador to Malaysia.
'It is still too early, we follow the process. The government will surely give consideration (to public views) and also preserve the dignity as well as the good relations between Malaysia and the United States,' he added.

Nvidia denies back-door features in its H20 chips after Beijing raises security concerns
Nvidia said its chips had no 'back doors' after China's cyberspace regulator interviewed company representatives over alleged security risks associated with its H20 chips, which were tailor-made for Chinese customers, although it remains unclear what impact Beijing's mistrust of the US firm will have over time. 'Cybersecurity is critically important to us,' an Nvidia representative said in an email to the South China Morning Post on Thursday night. 'Nvidia does not have 'back doors' in our chips that would give anyone a remote way to access or control them.' The statement was in response to a regulatory move by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), the agency responsible for the country's cybersecurity. The Chinese regulator said on Thursday that it had summoned and interviewed Nvidia regarding the potential tracking and remote control functions of its H20 chips, a surprise move as Nvidia had just received the green light from Washington to export the chips to clients in China. Nvidia's shares were down 0.8 per cent on Thursday in New York. The latest development highlights the challenges faced by Nvidia, the world's most valuable company in terms of market capitalisation, in trying to please both Washington and Beijing amid intensifying US-China rivalry in artificial intelligence and hi-tech. While China needs Nvidia chips to build out its computing infrastructure, Beijing remains committed to the long-term goal of tech self-sufficiency by reducing its reliance on imported American equipment and technologies. In the latest example of that, a group of Chinese semiconductor and AI companies – including Huawei Technologies, Cambricon Technologies and Moore Threads – formed an alliance to push for the adoption of locally developed processors for AI projects. China's cyberspace administration did not specify the source or evidence for its concerns about back-door security threats associated with Nvidia chips. In May, a bipartisan group of US lawmakers introduced a bill that would require makers of AI processors to incorporate tracking technology in their chips before export. The proposal aimed to address reports of US export-controlled AI chips being smuggled into China via third countries. But Nvidia has never said that its H20 chips have such tracking functions. The summoning of Nvidia was the latest example of the long-lasting mistrust between Beijing and Washington over the other's tech hardware. The US has banned the use of Huawei gear in the American telecommunications network, while new guidelines from the administration of US President Donald Trump implied that the use of Huawei's Ascend AI chips 'anywhere in the world' could be a violation of US export controls. For its part, China accelerated the process of replacing imported technologies in its key infrastructure facilities about a decade ago, after former US National Security Agency contract employee Edward Snowden exposed the global spying practices of the US. PM: No immunity in Zara's death probe

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 3): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has declared that no individual implicated in the death of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir will receive protection, regardless of rank or title. He has directed Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to ensure the probe is conducted swiftly and comprehensively. 'There was a death recently, and the Education Minister (Fadhlina Sidek) is being attacked and accused of various things. What has become of our country? This death is not a trivial matter,' he said during his speech at the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day 2025 here on Sunday. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and his deputy Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup. Anwar also reminded the public not to make speculations or accusations without evidence, emphasising that Malaysia is a nation founded on the rule of law. 'This is a nation of law, not slander. Whoever is involved in a criminal act such as murder will not be protected,' Anwar said. 'Death is not something to be taken lightly. Zara Qairina, 13, was believed to have fallen from the third floor and was found unconscious in a drain near her school dormitory in Papar, Sabah, at 4 am on July 16. She was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital here on July 17. The student's death quickly went viral, sparking widespread public reaction on social media. On Saturday, Mohd Khalid said the investigation paper regarding Zara Qairina's death had been completed and would be submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action. Police have recorded statements from 60 witnesses, including students and staff of SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha Limauan, and three individuals nicknamed 'Kak Wana,' 'Kak Dedeng,' and 'Tomboi' who were cited in social media rumors. The probe focuses on two angles: the cause of death (including possible bullying) and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Investigation papers are now with Bukit Aman for review before submission to the Attorney General's Chambers. The Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah Tun Musa Aman, Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mustapha Sakmud, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Ali and Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun have refuted claims of their families' involvement of the case.
