Booker T speaks out on Hulk Hogan's 2015 racism scandal that nearly destroyed late WWE star's career

Daily Mail31-07-2025
Hulk Hogan 's recorded use of racial slurs and his own admission to being 'racist to a point' still doesn't matter to black wrestler and beloved WCW performer Booker T.
The famed member of the tag team, Harlem Heat, reacted to Hogan's recent passing by defending the legendary wrestler against allegations of racism. Hogan was infamously taped criticizing his daughter's African-American boyfriend in 2007, and while the recording didn't surface until 2015, his use of the N-word continues to tarnish his legacy in some circles.
Booker T, the 60-year-old Louisiana native born Booker T. Huffman Jr., is more forgiving because of some kindness Hogan showed him years earlier. When Booker T accidentally dropped the N-word in 1997 while referring to Hogan during a live promo for WCW, the wrestling legend born Terry Bollea didn't seek any retribution, instead offering support to Booker T.
'People labeled Hulk Hogan a racist [in 2015] when he made his comments,' Booker T said, defending his former WCW colleague. 'You normally know a racist by the people that they hang with, their friends. You normally know a racist by their kids.
'At that moment when I said that about Hulk Hogan, I said, 'Man, that was a moment right there for Hulk Hogan if he was a racist,' Booker T continued. 'A racist would have said, 'Man, I'm gonna get this sucker fired. I'm gonna do my best to get him out of here.' A racist would have said, 'Man, I'm gonna have him working for me now.' That's what a racist would have did.'
Hogan, Booker T explained, didn't do any of that.
'I asked Hulk Hogan why didn't he get me fired, why didn't he go to the office and lobby to get me out of there,' Booker T said. 'He was, like, in shock. He was like: 'Brother I heard that word many times so it wasn't anything… I wouldn't go try to get another one of the wrestlers fired.'
Booker T continued to make his point with another memory from the aftermath of the 1997 incident.
Recalling a discussion about the comment between Hogan and fellow WCW star 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, Booker T said the Hulkster wasn't upset be referred to with the N-word.
'Well, if I'm an N-word, then I'm a good N-word,' Booker T remembered Hogan saying. 'And that was it.
'From that moment, in the 90s, we never spoke that until just last week on my radio show,' Booker T added. 'That's how irrelevant it really was.'
Booker T was upset about Hogan's use of the N-word, but didn't hold it against him
Booker T wasn't nearly so accepting of Hogan's use of the N-word when his infamous 2007 recording surfaced in 2015.
At the time, Booker T wrote on Twitter that it's '2015 and the n-word should be eradicated from the English language in my opinion.'
Like Hogan, Booker T spent time in both the WCW and WWE, although he's more associated with the former while Hogan is best known for his work with the latter.

TIFF pulls documentary on 2023 Hamas attack from festival lineup, citing footage rights issue

The Toronto International Film Festival has pulled from its lineup a documentary on Hamas ' 2023 attack into Israel over what the festival says was a footage rights issue. Organizers for the festival acknowledged Tuesday that they withdrew Canadian filmmaker Barry Avrich's 'The Road Between Us: The Ultimate Rescue' after initially offering the film a spot in the upcoming edition of TIFF. The film chronicles the story of retired Israeli Gen. Noam Tibon, whose efforts to save his family and others during the Oct. 7, 2023 attack was profiled in a '60 Minutes' segment. Representatives for the festival said in a statement that the film's invitation 'was withdrawn by TIFF because general requirements for inclusion in the festival, and conditions that were requested when the film was initially invited, were not met, including legal clearance of all footage.' 'The purpose of the requested conditions was to protect TIFF from legal implications and to allow TIFF to manage and mitigate anticipated and known risks around the screening of a film about highly sensitive subject matter, including potential threat of significant disruption,' the festival said. The filmmakers, though, say the festival is engaging in 'censorship' by denying the film a place in the festival. 'We are shocked and saddened that a venerable film festival has defied its mission and censored its own programming by refusing this film," the filmmaking team said in a statement. 'Ultimately, film is an art form that stimulates debate from every perspective that can both entertain us and make us uncomfortable.' Deadline, which first reported the news, reported that a sticking point related to the identification and legal clearance of Hamas militants' own livestreaming of the attack. Festival organizers didn't respond to requests for further comment Wednesday. The filmmakers pledged to release the film regardless: 'We invite audiences, broadcasters and streamers to make up their own mind, once they have seen it.' The Toronto International Film Festival has sometimes prompted headlines over its selections. Last year, it canceled screenings of 'Russians at War,' a documentary about Russian soldiers in the war with Ukraine. Protesters in Toronto called the film Russian propaganda. After the festival paused screenings due to 'significant threats,' 'Russians at War' was quietly screened toward the end of the festival. The 50th Toronto International Film Festival runs Sept. 4–14.

Machine Gun Kelly theorizes he has ALIEN lineage after mother revealed she may have been abducted by UFO

Machine Gun Kelly suspects he may have an extraterrestrial background. The rapper, 35, revealed he has considered the possibility that he may have alien lineage thanks to several mysteries in his life, including his body's ability to quickly recover from injuries. Adding fuel to the theory, MGK says his mother suspects she may have been abducted by a UFO at one point - which may explain for the rapper's quirks. The can of worms was opened after MGK - real name Colson Baker - admitted he didn't know his true age during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live. 'It's a weird thing, dude, I don't know if my age, I don't know if it exists,' he said. 'Wow! You have a Mariah Carey connection to your age? Which is, it's very fluid.' Host Andy Cohen asked. 'I don't know many facts about my life, so I don't know, I'm starting to just be like, like my skin, like if it rips open, it heals really quick,' he said. 'How?' an intrigued Andy asked. 'There's just things where I'm starting to be like, "Who's my dad?"' MGK continued. 'Do you think that you could be like otherworld?' Andy asked. 'I've asked my mom, I said, "Any period of time you went like missing, off Earth?... Ever a tall, slender creature?"' he said. 'She told me she felt like she got abducted at one point.' 'So there may be something to this!' Andy said. 'No, there really is!' he said. 'I'm bad at talking, I shouldn't have came on a talk show.' MGK has had a strained relationship with his parents. The rapper was born in Houston to missionary parents, but his mom left home when he was young for another man. The musician became estranged from his mother, but they reconnected in 2022. MGK also endured a difficult relationship with his father for many years. His dad sadly passed away in 2020. The speculation about his heritage wasn't all MGK discussed on the show. The Beyond The Lights actor also had a dramatic three-word response to rumors he may have struck up a romance with Sydney Sweeney. Earlier this year the duo were seen getting close at the star-studded opening of the Palm Tree Beach Club at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The rapper was asked about the speculation during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live - and it was clear he didn't want to discuss the Euphoria star, 27. Viewer 'Kyle P.' submitted a question asking MGK about the matter, and the actor did not shy away from telling the curious fan exactly how he felt about the topic. 'MGK, Kyle P. wants to know if there's any truth you and Sydney Sweeney were more than just friends?' Host Andy Cohen, 57, asked, reading the viewer-submitted question. 'Kyle P., shut up dude,' MGK said, garnering laughter from the studio. The rapper sparked romance rumors earlier this year after they were seen chatting at the opening of the Palm Tree Beach Club at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas; Sydney pictured in Los Angeles earlier this month MGK and Sydney have known each other since starring together in the 2021 film Downfalls High, which MGK also directed. But in May, the pair looked extra chummy as they spoke with one another at the Las Vegas party. At the time, MGK had recently split from Megan Fox, with the couple welcoming their first child together two months prior (MGK also has a daughter with ex Emma Cannon and Megan has three kids with ex Brian Austin Green). In exclusive Daily Mail video, Kelly and Sweeney were seen getting close and chatting. They were also seen sharing a fierce embrace in photos obtained by Page Six. Not only that, but they made appearances in one another's social media accounts as they posted about the bash. Sydney appeared in a silly selfie MGK posted that also included Patrick Schwarzenegger and hairstylist Glen Oropeza. The selfie was one of several MGK included in a post that he captioned, 'stop what you're doing these pictures are v important.' The Euphoria star also posted the results of a snap she took with MGK and the White Lotus star. Sydney's love life has been making headlines ever since her breakup with longtime fiancé Jonathan Davino. The actress split from Jonathan earlier this year in January, but news of the separation didn't come to light until March.

Sly robbery suspect, 20, escapes police custody while being marched through Seattle airport

A sneaky fugitive who managed to escape police custody as he was being marched through Seattle's airport is still at large. John Nino, 20, was being returned to Washington after getting arrested several days ago in New Mexico on a second-degree robbery charge. However, while Nino was being transported through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport at around 8pm on Tuesday, the fugitive managed to escape his captors and flee the scene. Two Department of Corrections officers were leading Nino over the skybridge to the airport's parking garage when he escaped. Nino was cuffed at the wrists and not at the ankles, according to DOC spokesperson Chris Wright. He was last seen by officers crossing railway tracks and heading towards Washington's Highway 99. The 20-year-old, who is 6'2 and weighs 154lbs, is still on the run, according to the Daily Beast. Authorities urged people to not approach Nino if they spot him in public, and to instead report any sightings to law enforcement. Nino has a lengthy criminal history in Washington's King County that includes two convictions for firearm possession in 2024 and a second-degree robbery in 2018, when he was 13. In June, a warrant was issued for his arrest after he violated community supervision terms. This is the third time a fugitive has escaped custody while at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport over the last few months. Three months ago, Sedrick Stevenson - who was facing an arrest warrant - managed to flee during the check-in process at the ticket counter. He ran away from two employees of Prisoner Transportation Services, a private company the Warren County sheriff's office in Kentucky contracts to transport people facing warrants. Stevenson, 29, fled to the light rail station and boarded a northbound train before exiting at the Capitol Hill station. He was at large for over six weeks before being apprehended by authorities 45 days later. Stevenson was also cuffed at the wrists but not at the ankles. In July, a man from El Salvador escaped immigration agents while being transported through the same airport. He had opened a car door and ran off near the airport's car rental facility before he was caught few hours later near the rideshare pickup area.
