Auburn baseball: Ike Irish receives first round projection in MLB Pipeline's latest mock
Auburn baseball is beginning to heat up in the later stages of the season, so is the draft stock of one of its top hitters.
Ike Irish was included in MLB Pipeline's initial mock draft released this week, where he received a first-round projection. According to MLB Pipeline's debut mock draft of the year, Irish is projected to land with the Houston Astros organization with the No. 21 overall pick in the first round of the 2025 MLB draft. Irish is one of six SEC players included in MLB Pipeline's first-round projections, joining the likes of Tennessee pitcher Liam Doyle, Texas A&M outfielder Jace Laviolette, and LSU pitcher Kade Anderson.
Irish has been one of the most consistent players in the Auburn lineup over the last three seasons. He signed with the Tigers as the No. 39 overall player from the 2022 recruiting cycle and the No. 3 overall catcher. He made a quick impact by earning a spot on the All-SEC Freshman team and several Freshman All-America teams in 2023 by hitting .361 with 50 RBI and 31 extra-base hits. He followed suit in 2024 by boosting his home run, RBI, and stolen base output, which earned him first team All-SEC honors and a place on the Buster Posey Award semifinals list.
This season, Irish leads the team in home runs (13) and RBI (48). He is second on the team in average (.345) and fourth in hits (64). Expect Irish to continue his consistency at the plate as his team prepares for a lengthy postseason journey.

ESPN's Football Power Index gives Spartans slim chances of reaching bowl
The computers and numbers behind ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) are not high on the Spartans reaching a bowl game this season. While the Spartans' win total over/under is set at 5.5 (with some sports book juicing it to the over), the FPI rating system is giving Michigan State a less than 50-50 chance of reaching a bowl game this fall. According to a post from The Big Ten Huddle, the Spartans are given only a 31% chance to reach six wins to become bowl eligible. Among Big Ten teams, only Northwestern and Purdue have lower odds from FPI to reach a bowl game this season. Northwestern comes in at 27.8%, while Purdue is listed at a near impossible 1.8%. Michigan State is the only team from the Big Ten to not reach the postseason at least once in the last three years. The Spartans finished last season with a 5-7 record in year one under head coach Jonathan Smith, and are expecting a better record this upcoming season. The Spartans officially kick off the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan. Kickoff from Spartan Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on FS1.
