KUALA LUMPUR: Defending Malaysia Masters men's doubles champions Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark advanced to the second round with a straight-games win over China's world No. 29 Xie Hao Nan-Zeng Wei Han today.
The world No. 1 defeated the Chinese duo 21-10, 21-17 in just 35 minutes at Axiata Arena.
Last year, Astrup- Rasmussen captured three other crowns — the World Tour Finals, Canada Open, and European Championships.
However, the current season has seen them suffer a rocky start, with three early exits. Their best result so far was a quarter-final finish at the European Championships.
Rasmussen said:
"We played at what I'd call our level against Hao Nan-Wei Han.
"Our focus was good, and we stuck to our game plan and tried to control the match on our terms — that's always our goal.
Astrup-Rasmussen will face Malaysia's world No. 39 Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong in the second round.
Earlier, Hang Yee-Eng Cheong beat Taiwan's world No. 70 Chiang Chien Wei-Wu Hsuan Yi 21-14, 21-16.

Indonesia Open: Pearly-Thinaah miss out on title after going down to world number one pair

A major title continued to elude the country's top women's doubles pair, Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah, as their maiden Super 1000 title hopes were dashed after falling to world number one pair, Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning from China, during the Indonesia Open 2025 final at Istora Senayan here, today. In a fierce 87-minute match, the world number four seeded pair lost 25-23, 12-21, 19-21 in the tournament after putting up a strong fight, including winning the first set. The unseeded pair managed to bounce back from an 8-14 deficit in the opening set to secure a 25-23 victory, but the opponents' dominance in the subsequent two sets saw Pearly-Thinaah fail to maintain their momentum. Currently ranked fourth in the world by the Badminton World Federation (BWF), Pearly-Thinaah tried to recover from deficits multiple times, but the Chinese pair managed to maintain their advantage until the end. After the match, Pearly explained that there was still much to learn and improve to enhance their performance, especially their 'mindset,' despite playing with high spirits. 'We were actually in a good position, we should have been able to finish the match with an advantage. But towards the end, maybe we lost a little focus. 'Actually, from the beginning of the game we already felt tired, but we reminded each other to keep fighting, because this was the last match. We just wanted to give everything we had on the court,' Pearly added. Meanwhile, Thinaah said they would use the time this month to fully rest and recover their energy as there are no major tournaments coming up soon. This defeat sees Pearly-Thinaah once again become runners-up in Jakarta, after also reaching the final of the Indonesia Masters earlier this year. However, their consistent performance strengthens their reputation as one of the main contenders in the women's doubles event at the world level.

Pearly-Thinaah stretch China's world No. 1 pair before going down in final

PETALING JAYA: Women's doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M. Thinaah finished runners-up in the Indonesian Open after a heartbreaking defeat to China's world No. 1 Liu Shengshu-Tan Ning. Pearly-Thinaah fought their hearts out but narrowly went down 25-23, 12-21, 19-21 in a thrilling final at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Sunday (June 8). The world No. 4 pair led 9-4 and 14-12 in the decider but could not hold on against the mighty Chinese duo and lost in 87 minutes. While it was painful to miss out on the title, Pearly-Thinaah can still be proud of their efforts as they had reached a World Tour Super 1000 final for the first time in their careers. It was also the Malaysian pair's third final this year after they captured the Thailand Open last month and finished runners-up in the Indonesian Masters in January.
