NEW DELHI, May 6 (Reuters) - India's Adani Power (ADAN.NS)
, opens new tab has won a contract to supply 1500 megawatts from a thermal power plant in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh at 5.38 rupees ($0.0638) per unit, two sources told Reuters on Tuesday.

ECB cuts inflation, growth projections
FRANKFURT, June 5 (Reuters) - The European Central Bank cut some of its growth and inflation projections on Thursday as the fallout from a global trade war is likely to prove a drag for the 20-nation euro zone. Inflation is now seen falling further below the ECB's 2% target next year as lower energy costs, a stronger euro and weak economic growth all weigh on prices. Price growth will then rebound in the following year and come back to target, the ECB predicted. A muted outlook for both economic growth and inflation is why the ECB cut interest rates again on Thursday, lowering the deposit rate by a combined 2 percentage points since last June. That may not be enough, however. Markets see between one and two more rate cuts this year as growth remains anaemic and there is no meaningful rebound on the horizon. ECB governors see July pause but Sept up in the air
FRANKFURT, June 5 (Reuters) - A clear majority of European Central Bank policymakers meeting on Thursday expressed a preference for holding interest rates steady next month and a few even made the case for an even longer pause, four sources told Reuters. The ECB cut interest rates for the eighth time in a year on Thursday but hinted at a pause in its year-long easing cycle after inflation finally returned to its 2% target. ECB policymakers did not explicitly discuss their July decision but their deliberations revealed a clear preference for no change then since little new information would come out in the next six weeks and interest rates were already low enough to support the economy, the sources said. An ECB spokesperson declined to comment. While some policymakers argued for a longer pause, most preferred not to discuss meetings beyond July, arguing that new economic projections in September would be crucial. Some also argued that any meaningful fall in inflation below 2% in the coming months could justify a further cut in borrowing costs. All policymakers apart from Austrian governor Robert Holzmann backed Thursday's rate cut.

EU could approve Mercosur deal by summer, agriculture chief says
BRUSSELS, June 5 (Reuters) - The European Union could approve its planned trade deal with South American bloc Mercosur before summer, but it has not yet fixed a date to do so, EU agriculture commissioner Christophe Hansen told Reuters on Thursday. "It could be before summer," Hansen said in an interview. EU nations still need to approve the deal, which was finalised in December but has faced opposition from members including France, which argues that the pact would hurt European farmers who face stricter norms and regulations than their South American peers. French President Emmanuel Macron and Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva discussed their differences on the pact at a meeting in Paris on Thursday. Macron said the text could be improved with the insertion of mirror clauses. France has previously argued for the insertion of an emergency break clause to restrict imports if a sudden surge in imports destabilises certain EU markets. "This would indeed require that we go back to the table and reopen. I don't think that this would be helpful in this situation," Hansen said of the idea of resuming negotiations with Mercosur countries to add new safeguards to the deal. "I see from many different parts of the agriculture and food sector, they are really looking for having these new opportunities," he added.
