Depleted England clinical against the Pumas in La Plata
England without 13 British and Irish Lions stunned recent Lions conqueror Argentina 35-12 in test rugby on Saturday.
Argentina beat the Lions 28-24 in Dublin two weeks ago for the first time and left most of the team intact for its first test at home this year.
But Argentina's failure to score any points in a first half it dominated came back to bite it as England opened the new half by suddenly running the ball and scoring three tries in seven minutes.
The Pumas came back with two tries to forwards Pablo Matera — his 110th appearance tying Agustin Creevy's national caps record — and Pedro Rubiolo.
But that's all England allowed in an impressive show of depth and ruthless efficiency.
It even finished with a flourish. Replacement wing Cadan Murley scored the fourth try and co-captain George Ford, who became the eighth man to play 100 England tests, capped off a surprisingly emphatic win with 15 points and a try assist.

Reading Supporters' Trust 'disappointed' as club appoint gambling partners
Supporters Trust at Reading [STAR] have hit out at the club's decision to appoint an official betting sponsor for the new season. The relationship between gambling and football is something which has proved controversial in recent years, akin to the relationship between tobacco and alcoholic sponsors in other sports such as snooker and rugby. Premier League clubs have voted to withdraw gambling sponsorships on front of shirts as of next season, although there are currently no limitations for sleeve sponsors or advertising hoardings. Last week, Reading confirmed a new partnership with PricedUp, a UK-based online sports betting and gaming brand which will feature on training wear for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 seasons. The club state: "As part of the agreement, PricedUp will collaborate with the club to deliver exclusive offers and rewards designed to engage and benefit Royals supporters, while also working closely with Reading FC to promote and support responsible gambling practices." However, STAR have admitted that they are 'disappointed' with the decision. "We were as disappointed as I'm sure a lot of fans were, to see that we have a new betting sponsor," Chair Sarah Turner commented in her newsletter. " [It is]Not ideal, and I'm sure we'd rather a sponsor from other areas. "I think we have to be pragmatic and think that the club are working on improving things and the costs are huge. We have banged on about wanting to be sustainable - and that means using income from sponsorship. "It is, however, positive that the press release mentions that PricedUp will be working closely with Reading FC to promote and support responsible gambling practices and we look forward to seeing how this develops." Some supporters have also been less than impressed with the decision, although many have gone on to praise the club's pragmatism. UK Athletics upholds coach ban for sexual abuse of an athlete
UK Athletics (UKA) has given an indefinite suspension to hammer coach Christopher Black for the serious sexual abuse of an athlete. Black, 75, was found by an independent panel last year to have sexually abused a young athlete. The hammer coach appealed the findings in October 2024 but the decision released on August 5 rejected the appeal and made the indefinite suspension from all athletics activities — including coaching — final and binding. Advertisement Black's behaviour was judged to be approaching the 'most serious form of abuse a senior coach could subject a young athlete to'. The independent panel said nine charges were fully proven to a civil standard: five of sexual abuse, three of inappropriate sexual touching and one of verbal impropriety and inappropriate touching. Three further charges were found to be proved in part by the panel and two dismissed. The age gap between the coach and athlete was also noted. 'I could not refuse to let you do it because it was terrifying,' the athlete said, as detailed in a UKA report. 'I was absolutely terrified.' Black maintained his innocence throughout. When questioned by the panel, the former Olympic hammer thrower said he did not know what the Coach Licence Scheme was (the conditions that require all coaches to meet adequate training and codes of conduct) and said he had never been asked to go on a course. The release of the final decision comes just over a month after UKA permanently banned coach Chris Barnes from the sport after being found guilty of an intimate relationship with an athlete and sending racial slurs. It also comes one day after the governing body released improvements to their safeguarding and disciplinary processes after an independent safeguarding review. The key improvements included a clearer criteria for how cases should be handled, the power for the Case Management Group (CMG) to resolve lower-level cases and expanding the number of people that are permitted to carry out certain tasks such as notifying someone of an order. 'These are sensible and practical improvements that will make the system more responsive,' said UKA Head of Safeguarding Danny Williams in a statement. 'By allowing us to deal with level one or low-risk cases more quickly and proportionately, we can reduce the stress and delay that often affects both complainants and respondents. 'It also means our safeguarding panels can focus their attention where it's most needed — on more serious and complex matters.'
