Microsoft unveils Copilot mode in Edge: What is it and how to enable it

Hindustan Times3 days ago
Microsoft has introduced Copilot Mode in the Edge browser, aiming to transform the browser into an AI-powered assistant and collaborator. This experimental feature reimagines web browsing by utilising an AI agent to assist users in managing tasks, navigating through information, and boosting productivity. Browse smarter with Edge's AI-powered Copilot Mode.(Microsoft)
What is Copilot mode in Edge
The Copilot mode on Edge offers a clean new tab page with a single input field where users can ask questions, chat, or open a website using natural language, including via voice commands. It can see all your open tabs (if you allow it to) and can give you a detailed comparison. It can speed up decision-making while reducing the need to go back and forth between different tabs. Copilot can even take action for you, like opening tabs, finding information from different websites, summarising content, translating, and managing bookings directly from your browser.
Copilot is always accessible in a dynamic side panel, which helps in small tasks like summarising content and converting measurements without losing your place on the webpage. Users will soon be able to use Copilot to organise browsing into topic-based 'journeys', offering suggestions on what to do next to help resume an interrupted session.
Copilot mode is completely an opt-in feature, with all the user data handled according to Microsoft's privacy standards, and it shows clear cues about what Copilot can access. The Copilot mode can easily be disabled anytime from the settings, and it will only access browsing data with the user's permission.
Copilot mode availability
Copilot mode in Edge is available for free for a limited time to all Edge users on Windows and Mac. Some of the features may be limited for free use, and Microsoft may expand or change the availability in the future.
How to enable Copilot mode on Edge
To enable this feature, users need to navigate to the Edge Copilot feature page and then follow the prompts to turn on the Copilot mode and explore its capabilities. After opting in to Copilot mode, it can easily be enabled and disabled from the browser settings at any time.

Apple beats Wall Street expectations with record Q3 revenue fueled by strong iPhone sales

Apple Inc. reported an exceptional financial performance for its fiscal third quarter, blowing past Wall Street estimates thanks largely to a surge in iPhone sales and robust growth in its services business. The tech giant posted quarterly revenue of $94.04 billion, a 10 percent increase year-over-year, and net profit of $23.4 billion, or $1.57 per diluted share, marking a 12 percent rise in earnings per share compared to the prior year. Analysts had predicted revenue to fall below $90 billion with earnings closer to $1.43 per share, so Apple's results exceeded expectations substantially, prompting a notable rise in its stock price in after-hours trading. The flagship iPhone category emerged as the primary revenue driver, generating $44.58 billion in sales, a remarkable 13.5 percent increase year-over-year. This figure substantially outpaced analyst forecasts of roughly $40.22 billion, fueled by rebounding demand in key markets like China. Sales in Greater China grew to $15.37 billion from $14.73 billion the previous year, underscoring Apple's strength in the region after a period of slowdown. Apple's services segment, encompassing App Store, Apple Pay, iCloud, and other digital offerings, hit an all-time quarterly high of $27.42 billion, reflecting a 13 percent growth over the prior year and beating analyst expectations of $26.80 billion. Meanwhile, Mac sales saw an impressive lift with revenue climbing nearly 15 percent to $8.05 billion, continuing a trend of strong demand for Apple's computers amid both consumer and professional use cases. Conversely, the iPad business faced a 7 percent decline in revenue, producing $6.6 billion, despite recent refreshes with M4 chip upgrades and newer models targeting broader consumer segments. The Wearables, Home, and Accessories category—which includes AirPods and Apple Watch—also saw an 8.6 percent decrease in sales year-over-year, suggesting a temporary softness ahead of anticipated product updates later this fall. Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed satisfaction with the results, stating, 'Today Apple is proud to report a June quarter revenue record with double-digit growth in iPhone, Mac and Services and growth around the world, in every geographic segment. At WWDC25, we were excited to introduce a beautiful new software design that extends across all of our platforms, and we announced even more great Apple Intelligence features.' Apple also announced a quarterly dividend of $0.26 per share, payable August 14 on August 11 record holders. Apple maintained its practice of not issuing forward guidance for the next quarter, a strategy it has kept for over five years, citing the unpredictability of market dynamics and product company's shares rallied more than 2 percent in after-hours trading following the announcement, reflecting investor optimism about Apple's sustained growth trajectory amid a competitive tech landscape.

Apple Q3 earnings beat estimates: Profit at $23.4 billion despite tariff headwinds, iPhone sales soar

Apple on Thursday reported quarterly profit of $23.4 billion, topping forecasts despite concerns about the effect of US tariffs on its supply chain. Revenue was $94 billion for the usually slow quarter ending in June, the iPhone maker said. "Apple is proud to report a June quarter revenue record with double-digit growth in iPhone, Mac and Services and growth around the world, in every geographic segment," said Apple chief executive Tim Cook. Apple shares were up more than two percent in after-market trading. Revenue from iPhone sales during the quarter was $44.6 billion, compared with $39.3 billion in the same period a year earlier, according to Apple. Global shipments of smartphones fell marginally to 288.9 million units in the recently-ended quarter, according to market-tracker Canalys. Samsung was the largest vendor, shipping 57.5 million smartphones, while Apple finished second with iPhone shipments down two percent at 44.8 million units, Canalys reported. "Apple's performance showed strong resilience amid fierce competition in China and an inventory correction in the US as it adjusted to the rapidly changing tariffs," the market tracker said in its findings. Cook said that the Trump tariffs cost Apple $800 million in the quarter that just ended. Cook said on a previous earnings call that most iPhones sold in the United States will come from India as Apple worked to navigate US President Donald Trump's trade war with China. While iPhones produced in mainland China still account for the majority of US shipments, production in India has been ramping up, according to market trackers. Trump has since taken aim at India with a 25 percent duty to begin Friday -- slightly lower than previously threatened -- after talks between Washington and New Delhi failed to bring about a trade pact. Tit-for-tat exchanges have seen hefty US levies imposed on China, with Beijing setting retaliatory barriers on US imports. Sales of iPhones in mainland China were $15.4 billion in the quarter, compared with $14.7 billion in the same period a year ago, according to Apple. Revenue in Apple's services business selling digital content and subscriptions to fans of its devices grew to $27.4 billion in the quarter, Apple reported.
