Kelantan loan shark ring busted in Op Vulture raids
State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the operation, jointly conducted by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department of the state contingent and the Kota Baru district, was held from July 17 to 22.
He added that the two separate raids around Kota Baru led to the arrest of five suspects, aged between 25 and 39, believed to be involved in criminal intimidation and vandalism linked to unlicensed moneylending activities.
"The suspects are believed to have carried out acts such as splashing red paint on victims' houses, pasting threatening notes, smashing windows with stones and locking the victims' gates as a form of harassment and pressure," he said.
Mohd Yusoff said the first suspect was nabbed on July 23 during a raid in Pasir Tumboh near Kubang Kerian.
"This was followed by the arrest of four more suspects on July 25 in connection with a paint-splashing incident in Pasir Hor," he added.
During the operations, he said police have seized 34 items and they included red paint, pens, threat notes, clothing, face masks, mobile phones, and motorcycles believed to have been used in the crimes.
"Early investigations revealed that the suspects were linked to at least nine cases of criminal damage across Kota Baru, Tumpat and Tanah Merah districts," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 5(2) of the Moneylenders Act 1951 and Sections 427 and 506 of the Penal Code for mischief and criminal intimidation.
"All five suspects have been remanded to assist in further investigations," he added.
Mohd Yusoff advised the public not to seek loans through unlicensed sources, including those offered on social media and unverified applications.
He urged borrowers to verify lenders through official channels and conduct financial transactions only with licensed institutions.
He also reminded the public not to accept payments for carrying out red paint attacks or other intimidation acts, as even being hired for such activities constitutes a criminal offence.
"The police will not compromise with anyone who attempts to instil fear in the public for personal gain.
"Any suspicious activity should be reported to the nearest police station or through our official channels," he added.

Police arrest 81 illegal immigrants in palm oil theft crackdown
TELUK INTAN: A total of 81 illegal immigrants were detained by police in Operation Helang Hilir Phase 2, conducted early this morning, on suspicion of being involved in stealing oil palm fruits in the district. He added that 56 of the illegal immigrants had no valid identification documents, while the remaining 25 held permits or visitor passes that had already expired. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft which carries which carries a penalty of up to seven years' imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

Man held after hour-long high-speed chase in Kuching
KUALA LUMPUR: A 31-year-old man was arrested after a nearly hour-long high-speed chase from Kota Samarahan to Lorong 6 in Stampin Tengah, Kuching, early this morning. Kota Samarahan police chief Superintendent Damataries Lautin said the incident occurred about 2.50am, when a team from the Kota Samarahan police station and the Mobile Patrol Vehicle unit were conducting crime prevention patrols behind Roxy Hotel Aiman in Kuching. "Our team spotted a Perodua Axia that was suspicious. When we tried to inspect the vehicle, the driver sped off and refused to cooperate despite repeated instructions through the loudspeaker to stop," he was reported as saying in a statement today. The suspect's vehicle was seen heading for Kampung Sindang before turning back to the Aiman Mall area and later moving towards the Kuching police headquarters' administrative area. In his attempt to flee, the suspect rammed into a police pickup truck, damaging its rear door. Police then sought help from the Kuching police headquarters' MPV unit, the urban patroluUnit and Sentral 10 to block the escape route. "The suspect stopped his vehicle in Lorong 6 in Stampin Tengah and tried to flee into nearby bushes, but was apprehended." A body search found no prohibited items, and checks revealed the vehicle was not reported stolen. Police seized the car as evidence. Damataries said the suspect had several prior records for burglary and drug-related offences in Simunjan. "The suspect was taken to the Kota Samarahan police station for further investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his duty. "During the arrest, the suspect acted aggressively, forcing our personnel to use minimal force. No injuries were reported." Police have urged the public not to speculate on the case and allow investigations to proceed fairly and transparently.

Police: Six-year-old Tishant died after neck strangled with cable tie
SEREMBAN: Six-year-old M. Tishant, whose body was found buried near a railway track in Rompin, died from strangulation caused by pressure to the neck. Negri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said a post-mortem revealed that the boy had been killed using a cable tie. He said the procedure began at noon at the Rembau Hospital Forensics Unit, and the body was released at 4.26pm. "The post-mortem confirmed the cause of death as compression to the neck. "In this case, it is believed to have been inflicted using a cable tie," he said today. Ahmad Dzaffir said investigations are ongoing to determine the motive, but initial questioning suggests the suspect was facing marital issues and undergoing a divorce. "So far, the suspect has not been cooperative. The exact motive is still under investigation," he added. It was reported that the boy's body was discovered in Rompin at 4.30pm yesterday, about five days after he was reported missing in Johor. Police arrested the boy's 36-year-old father on the same day he lodged a missing persons report on July 24. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Police also said the father, who has been remanded for seven days since July 25, is being investigated for child neglect and for lodging a false report.
