Daytona 500 qualifying 2025: NASCAR Cup Series drivers meet with media, complete first practice
Drivers took to the track, and the red carpet, Wednesday prior to the Daytona 500 pole qualifying.
NASCAR Cup Series drivers will hit the 2.5-mile oval at Daytona International Speedway tonight for the Daytona Duels – two 60-lap, 150-mile races that set the starting lineup for Sunday's Daytona 500.
The front row for the 67th annual Daytona 500 was set Wednesday night in pole qualifying, with Joe Gibbs Racing's Chase Briscoe posting the fastest time and Team Penske's Austin Cindric taking second. Those two drivers will also start first tonight, with Briscoe on the pole for Duel No. 1 and Cindric on the pole for Duel No. 2.
The finishing order of the Daytona Duel races will determine the rest of the starting positions in the 'Great American Race,' with drivers in Duel No. 1 filling in the inside lane to start Sunday's race and drivers in Duel No. 2 taking starting spots on the outside lane.
The Duel races will also give drivers their first taste of real racing this season, giving teams the opportunity to prepare the best setup for Sunday's race.

What is the start time for the IndyCar race at World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis?
The IndyCar Series resumes after a one-week break with its second oval of the season, a 260-lap race on the 1.25-mile World Wide Technology Raceway near St. Louis in Madison, Ill. Hybrid energy deployment: Unlimited activation of 150 kilojoules per lap. Tire allotment: Ten new sets for the weekend. An extra set will be provided to teams participating in the high-line session before final practice. Nathan Brown is your best IndyCar follow, and keep up with coverage throughout the season with IndyStar's motorsports newsletter. Alex Palou has won five races and leads by almost two full races' worth of max points. Kyle Kirkwood won the other two races. Josef Newgarden held off Team Penske teammate Scott McLaughlin for the win. Since 2019, Newgarden (four times) and Scott Dixon (two) are the only active drivers to win on this track. From Nathan Brown, IndyStar We're seven races into a 17-race season, and two drivers have taken checkered flags. Can a third driver enjoy the spoils? For this exercise, Alex Palou and Kyle Kirkwood are out of the equation. Who is most likely to earn his first win of the season?: I'll take the driver who's taken pole here each of the last two years and who in five starts in his career at the track is yet to finish outside the top-5: Scott McLaughlin. The Team Penske driver won twice on short ovals a year ago and finished runner-up at WWTR, too. It's been a rollercoaster of a year for McLaughlin, but I think he settles things a bit on Sunday. Who will win pole position?: I think McLaughlin will continue his run of poles at this track before coming through Sunday evening to complete the weekend sweep. Something you don't see coming: Alex Palou will have another hiccup and finish outside the top-5, opening the door for his closest competitors in the championship race to chip away at his 90-point lead.
