Changdeokgung main hall tours available in English in March
Online reservations for Injeongjeon tours open
Free guided tours of the royal hall Injeongjeon at Changdeokgung -- one of the five Joseon-era (1392-1910) palaces in Seoul -- will run for the entire month of March, according to the Korea Heritage Service.
A 15-minute stop at Injeongjeon will be added to the existing tours of the palace covering major palace buildings. The stop will offer a rare look inside Injeongjeon, the main hall of the palace, where key royal ceremonies from proclamations to weddings took place.
Kings discussed day-to-day matters of the state with officials and received foreign dignitaries at the hall. Behind the throne in the hall is a folding screen called Irwoloakdo -- literally 'the sun, moon and five peaks' -- a combination symbolizing the country itself.
Weekday tours are available only on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On either day, tours in Korean and English will be available separately at 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Tours in Japanese will start at 11 a.m. on Wednesdays, while Chinese tours will start at 10 a.m. on Thursdays.
Twenty people who have made reservations online at the Royal Palaces and Tombs Center website, royal.khs.go.kr, will be able to join the tours.
The weekend tours take place Fridays through Sundays, all beginning at 10:30 a.m. Five people who come to Geumhomun, west of the palace, ahead of the time will be able to join 15 others who have booked the tours online.
Weekday tours will offer a snapshot of the vast palace grounds, while weekend tours focus on understanding the royal duties exercised there.
The KHS says more preparations are still required to run weekend tours in languages other than Korean.

The 2025 K-Culture Festival is set to kick off in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday, offering Malaysians an immersive experience into Korean culture. Co-hosted by the Korean Embassy in Malaysia and Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the 11-day event is a celebration of Korea's expanding cultural presence, curated under the theme 'Feel the Vibes, Savor the Flavors, and Explore with Style!' First launched in Terengganu last year, the festival returns with expanded programming that reflects Korea's deepening ties with Malaysia following the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2023, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Tuesday. The lineup includes a halal hanwoo cooking show with Michelin-starred chef Son Jong-won, a Korea tourism roadshow from Wednesday to Sunday involving over 100 travel agencies, and K-beauty classes hosted by leading makeup artists from June 17 to 19. Performances by choreographer Lia Kim and The Painters, along with cultural booths at major malls, will further engage local audiences. On June 21, a Korean speech contest hosted by the Korean Education Center invites Korean language learners of all ages to showcase their skills, while the grand finale, the 2025 ROUND in Malaysia, will present musicians from 10 Asian countries including Paul Kim, Touched, Dragon Pony and Malaysian girl group DOLLA from June 21 to 22. The festival also sets the stage for the opening of the Korean Cultural Center in Malaysia in 2026, underscoring Korea's commitment to long-term cultural diplomacy in the ASEAN region, the Culture Ministry said.

Naver Pay's overseas QR payments soar amid travel boom
Internet giant Naver's payment platform Naver Pay said Sunday its overseas QR payment service is experiencing explosive growth as more Korean travelers opt for digital wallets abroad. The transaction volume for its overseas QR payment service surged by 70.7 percent in the first quarter compared to the previous quarter, the platform operator said. The spike is largely driven by a sharp increase in Korean tourists using the service in Japan, China and Thailand, the operator added. The number of new overseas users rose by 67 percent on-quarter, signaling a shift in consumer behavior as contactless payments become a norm among young travelers. Naver Pay's integration with PayPay, Japan's leading QR payment network, expanded the number of affiliated merchants by nearly 3 million, significantly boosting usage. Popular retail chains like Don Quijote and Sugi Pharmacy saw sustained increases in Naver Pay transactions. In China, Naver Pay remains the only Korean mobile wallet partnered with all three major local platforms — WeChat Pay, UnionPay and Alipay Plus — enabling seamless usage across most of the mainland. In May alone, transaction volume in China rose 40 percent compared to April. Notably, the number of users in their 20s more than doubled, with high activity concentrated in youth-frequented destinations such as Shanghai Disneyland, Darunfa Mart and Sunrise Duty-Free. Thailand also showed a strong performance, with QR payment volumes increasing 26 percent in May from April, especially in major tourist hotspots. Currently, Naver Pay supports QR payment in 65 countries and regions, the most extensive overseas coverage among all Korean digital payment platforms.
