He said it is his aspiration to see the state governed with integrity, accountability and wisdom, supported by sustainable development plans that prioritise the people's well-being. 'I believe with strong leadership and the support of the people, Sabah will continue to grow and prosper,' he said in a special address in conjunction with his 74th official birthday here today. He delivered the address at the 2025 Sabah Investiture Ceremony at Istana Seri Kinabalu, where 60 individuals received state awards, medals and honours. Also present were Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and other state leaders. Tun Musa emphasised the need to strengthen development efforts to ensure sustainable and inclusive progress, through close cooperation between the government and the people.
Advertisement He also stressed the importance of addressing global challenges through progressive approaches, including the promotion of technological innovation, development of quality human capital, and the building of a resilient economy 'Building a dynamic and competitive society is crucial to ensuring the long-term sustainability of the state's development,' he said. He further called for continued unity among the people, describing it as the foundation for peace and progress in Sabah. Tun Musa also commended Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and his Cabinet for their commitment to advancing the state in line with a more inclusive and sustainable development agenda. Sabah Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim led today's honours list after being conferred the Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu (SPDK), which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Panglima'. Businessmen Datuk Ahmad Fuad Md Ali and Datuk Albert Lim Yu Ming were also awarded the SPDK. A total of 37 individuals received the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK), which confers the title 'Datuk'. Among the recipients were Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Dr Fuziah Salleh and Kapayan assemblyman Jannie Lasimbang. Other PGDK recipients included Senator Anna Bell@Suzieana Perian, Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim, Amanah Sabah chairman Lahirul Latigu, Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Alexander Siew How Wai, Sabah Special Branch chief SAC Abdul Rahman Ishak, State Health director Dr Maria Suleiman, and veteran journalist Emin Madi of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Sabah Bureau. The first session of the investiture ceremony also saw five individuals receiving the Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu (ASDK), four each receiving the Ahli Darjah Kinabalu (ADK) and Bintang Setia Kinabalu (BSK), and six receiving the Justice of the Peace (JP) title. Ramos-Horta stated that Timor-Leste aspires to remain peaceful, tolerant, and resilient despite ongoing regional challenges. "I believe Asean leaders will appreciate that we have kept our country peaceful, an oasis of tranquillity and tolerance, and we want to contribute to peace and stability in the region,' he said. He acknowledged the growing complexity within Asean, particularly the prolonged crisis in Myanmar, which he described as "catastrophic', during his speech after being appointed as an Honorary Adjunct Professor at Taylor's University. He expressed hope that Asean can renew its efforts to find a peaceful solution through inclusive dialogue involving all parties, including the Myanmar military, ethnic armed groups, the National Unity Government (NUG), and the opposition. Drawing from decades of engagement with Myanmar, Ramos-Horta emphasised the need to resolve the plight of displaced communities. "You cannot build a peaceful, fair, and just society while discriminating against and killing your people. "We cannot forget the Rohingya people. Any political settlement must include their safe and dignified return.' He believes Asean can play a key role as a bridge-builder between rival superpowers, rather than being swayed by or falling under the influence or manipulation of any one of them. Ramos-Horta expressed confidence in Asean's ability to take the lead on regional challenges, highlighting his firm trust in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's leadership and Asean's track record. He believes that meaningful progress may be achieved in the coming months, offering real hope for the region. Ramos-Horta arrived in Malaysia on a private visit on Tuesday, which will run until June 22, aimed at reinforcing the historical ties between Timor-Leste and Malaysia. This visit builds on Malaysia's vital support during Timor-Leste's struggle for independence and its ongoing partnership in regional development efforts. CSOs Key Partners In Efforts To Strengthen Unity
KUALA LUMPUR, June 21 (Bernama) -- Civil society organisations (CSOs), which has presence and influence at the grassroots level, are essential partners in shaping a more cohesive and harmonious Malaysia as well as in strengthening national unity, said National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang. He pointed out that in any diverse and pluralistic nation, the task of building and sustaining national unity cannot rest solely on the shoulders of the government, but requires the collective commitment of all layers of society, including CSOs. 'Unlike government agencies, which may operate through formal structures and procedures, CSOs engage communities in a more personal, accessible, and consistent manner such in neighbourhoods, in rural areas, in urban settlements, often serving as the first point of contact for people who feel unheard or left behind,' he said in his speech at the Muhibbah Night 2025 event organised by The Pure Life Society here today. CSOs play a vital role because they are often the closest to the people that able to identify early signs of social tension, cultural misunderstanding, or discrimination, and intervene constructively before these issues deepen into division or conflict, he added. They are also important trusted, neutral voices and serve as credible bridges between different communities, especially in discussions around race, religion and identity that can be sensitive or politicised. 'When CSOs speak about the need for understanding and respect, they often do so with the moral authority that comes from years of non-partisan, community-driven work. 'This trust enables them to bring people to the same table, to foster difficult but necessary dialogue, and to mediate when disagreements arise,' Aaron said. He further emphasised that CSOs complement government efforts, particularly in communities that are isolated and marginalised. Their ability to reach those at the periphery of society ensures that the message of unity is not just heard in policy statements, but lived out in everyday lives.
