A minor earthquake was recorded off the B.C. coast on Sunday morning, but no damage was reported as a result.
Earthquakes Canada said the 3.9-magnitude tremor occurred 46 km west-southwest of Daajing Giids, B.C., and was recorded at a depth of 21 kilometres.

No damage is to be expected as a result, and none was reported. Mild shaking was reported near Maude Island, however.
The quake occurred along the Queen Charlotte Fault, a right-lateral, strike-slip fault, where the opposite side of it moves to the right, just like the San Andreas Fault in California.
The fault marks the boundary between the Pacific and the North American plates, Canada's most seismically active fault zone.
The largest, regional earthquake in that zone was a massive, 8.1-magnitude tremor that occurred on Aug. 22, 1949--recorded with 100 kilometres of Sunday's tremor.
It is Canada's strongest earthquake on record, releasing an estimated two million times more energy than Sunday's 3.9-magnitude tremor.
The Sunday B.C. earthquake did not generate a tsunami threat, but follows a few days after the major Russia tremor that did put parts of the coast under a watch and advisory for several hours.
However, the 8.8-magnitude earthquake did generate a tsunami for ports on the Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia, near the quake's epicentre, in northern Japan and parts of Hawaii.

Here are the key things to know: Air quality alerts were issued across the Upper Great Lakes and the northeastern United States on Monday. The air is expected to improve for most areas by Wednesday. Air quality The worst smoke concentrations are in the smallest towns in Canada, nearest the wildfires, and are creating hazardous air quality that could be harmful to people breathing the air. Farther away from the fires, a strong haze is sinking to the surface this morning, creating unhealthy air quality from Milwaukee to Buffalo, including other major cities like Detroit and Toronto. This poor air has prompted air quality alerts across the Upper Great Lakes and in the northeastern United States on Monday, forecasters with the Weather Prediction Center said. An air quality reading that is above 150 in many of these cities is considered unhealthy, and can create ill effects that might start to be felt even by people who are not in sensitive groups. Cities along the East Coast, including New York City, were also experiencing hazy skies on Monday. But as of early afternoon, the air quality sensors in the area were registering less than 100, so the air pollution at that location is considered below the level that is known to cause adverse health effects. 'Concentrations will increase into Monday afternoon,' forecasters in the National Weather Service office in New York City said Monday morning. If the air quality reading climbs above 100 on Monday afternoon, outdoor air may be safe for many people, but older adults and children would be at risk, as would people of any age with heart or lung disease. Beyond Monday, the smoke may lift back to the north and out of New York, and may linger across the Great Lakes and Midwest through Tuesday, but concentrations are expected to begin dispersing, improving air quality across the region by Wednesday. With wildfires still active, and as weather patterns change, the smoke may once again blanket the same region over the next several weeks, as it has several times already this summer. There is also a smoky haze in California — not from the Canadian wildfires but from local fires, like the Gifford fire, which has burned more than 60,000 acres since Friday.

Hundreds of wildfires still burning in Canada are expected to undermine air quality across the Upper Midwest and Northeast into Tuesday. At least 738 wildfires are currently burning in Canada, with at least 201 out of control, according to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre. As a result, at least eight states from Wisconsin to Maine were under air quality alerts as of Monday morning due to wildfire smoke. Heavy smoke will run through that corridor on Monday, with hazy skies expected from Green Bay, through Detroit and New York City to Boston. Detroit and Chicago begin Monday listed among the world's 10 worst major cities for air quality. Those living under alerts should limit outside exertion and keep their windows closed, officials said. An air quality alert is in effect for all of Massachusetts today due to smoke from Canadian wildfires, and it could be the worst air quality day the Boston area has seen all year. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection issued an alert for "fine particulates" in the air until midnight. New Hampshire is also under an air quality alert. "Air is unhealthy for sensitive children and adults, such as those with asthma, lung or heart disease, and older adults," the department said. "Sensitive children and adults should limit prolonged outdoor activity." The highest concentration of smoke is expected to be in western Massachusetts, the department said. The yellow dots represent the air quality reading stations registering a "moderate" air quality level as of 9 a.m. Monday morning. The hazy sky is visible on satellite imagery, and it's very clear and obvious to the naked eye when you step outside. That haze you see is not cloudiness, but instead, mainly from the Canadian wildfires raging throughout Saskatchewan and Alberta. The wind direction at upper levels of the atmosphere is aligned perfectly to carry the smoke nearly 2,000 miles from parts of central and northern Canada right down into New England. Weather models show the highest concentration of wildfire smoke over parts of southern New England this afternoon. Combine that with some ground level ozone (thanks to a rather hot forecast) and you have, most likely, the worst air quality day of the summer thus far our region. We do expect some improvement by Tuesday. There will still be some smoke in our atmosphere, however, air quality levels are not currently forecast to be unhealthy. We will continue to update that forecast as new data comes in.
