Vivo V50 Elite Edition launches in India for Rs 41,999 with free TWS earbuds

India Today15-05-2025

Vivo has launched a brand-new variant of its upper-mid-range smartphone — the Vivo V50 — in India, and they are calling it the Vivo V50 Elite Edition. Think of it as a special edition variant of the standard V50. The device comes in just the Rose Red colourway — introduced with the V50 — and offers 12GB RAM along with 512GB storage. The most notable addition this time is the inclusion of the TWS 3e earbuds bundled in the box, making it Vivo's only current model — and probably the only phone we've heard of in a good while — to offer wireless earphones in the box. Apart from this, the phone features a familiar design, a large 6,000mAh battery, and a camera system developed in collaboration with Zeiss.advertisementVivo V50: Price and availabilityThe Vivo V50 Elite Edition is priced at Rs 41,999 and is available starting May 15. Customers can purchase it through Flipkart, Amazon, Vivo's official website, and authorised retail stores across India. Vivo has also announced several promotional offers, including bank cashback up to Rs 3,000 on select cards and exchange bonuses. EMI options of up to 10 months with zero down payment are available for offline buyers, alongside the V-Shield protection plan and assured buyback of up to 70 per cent for a nominal charge of Rs 499.Vivo V50: Key specs and featuresThe key highlight of the Vivo V50 Elite Edition has to be the bundled TWS 3e earbuds, which normally retail for Rs 1,899. Doing the maths, the V50 Elite is simply just a standard V50, bundled with free wireless earbuds. While the V50 Elite is Rs 1,000 costlier than the standard V50, considering you are getting the TWS 3e for free — you are basically getting the V50 Elite for Rs 40,100, i.e. you minus the amount of the earbuds from the phone's amount. This will make it Rs 899 cheaper than the 12GB + 512GB variant of the standard V50.advertisement
The bundled TWS 3e earbuds come with active noise cancellation of up to 30dB, support for low-latency gaming at 88ms, and battery life rated up to 42 hours. Vivo says the earbuds are IP54 certified and designed for all-day use. Like other Vivo phones sold in India, the V50 Elite Edition is manufactured locally at the company's Greater Noida facility.Apart from this, when it comes to the specs — you get the same 6,000mAh battery on the V50 Elite Edition, paired with 90W FlashCharge support. Despite the large battery, the phone maintains a pretty slim profile at just 7.57mm. The phone features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with quad-curved edges and a peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits.On the camera front, the device includes a 50-megapixel triple camera setup developed in partnership with Zeiss. It supports three portrait focal lengths (23mm, 35mm, 50mm), seven portrait styles from Zeiss, and also features a Wedding Style Portrait mode tailored for Indian users. The front-facing camera uses Vivo's AI-powered 3D studio lighting for backlit selfies. The Vivo V50 Elite Edition is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip and offers three years of Android OS updates along with four years of security patches. It has IP68 and IP69 ratings for dust and water resistance and uses Diamond Shield glass for durability.

Drishti IAS to continue independently 'for now', after considering Physics Wallah deal, funding via IPO

'At Drishti IAS, our decisions are always based on a long-term vision. Though we explored various funding options during last year, including Initial Public Offering (IPO) and discussions with a few strategic investors including Physics Wallah, we have decided to continue independently for now. We hope we'll keep doing better on our own, and if required, we'll explore other options as per circumstances in the future,' Drishti IAS CEO Vivek Tiwari told ThePrint. The institute said it will continue to run independently, as it has for several years. New Delhi: A few months ago, reports suggested that unicorn Physics Wallah was in talks to acquire Drishti IAS, which is among the oldest coaching institutes for civil services preparations. While they were dismissed as mere speculations, the IAS coaching institute has now said it was indeed exploring funding options last year, including through Physics Wallah, but ultimately decided not to go ahead with it. Four major coaching institutes—Drishti IAS, Chaitanya Academy, Rau's IAS Study Circle, and Sarathi IAS—were being considered for potential acquisition as part of a larger consolidation wave in the Indian EdTech and test prep market. With online-first players like Physics Wallah and Unacademy looking to strengthen their offline footprint and diversify into civil services coaching, talks with these legacy UPSC institutes had emerged as strategic opportunities to tap into a loyal student base, particularly in Hindi-medium and regional markets. Drishti IAS was founded in 1999 by popular teacher Vikas Divyakirti in Mukherjee Nagar. It became one of the most well-known institutes for Hindi-medium UPSC aspirants. The Delhi-based institute reported a revenue of Rs 405 crore and a profit after tax of Rs 90 crore in FY24. Vikas Divyakirti's popularity is such that he even appeared in the movie 12th fail, Videos of his classes and lectures receive millions of views on social media. The institute moved to Noida last year after infrastructure issues in Mukherjee Nagar were flagged, following the death of three UPSC aspirants in another institute in the Old Rajinder Nagar area, and fire incidents at other institutes in Mukherjee Nagar. Coaching institutes came under intense scrutiny by public and authorities for infrastructure lapses and licensing issues after these incidents. Sources at Drishti IAS said the institute remains profitable. Physics Wallah is known for offering affordable online coaching. It first gained popularity through YouTube and later launched online courses for JEE and NEET aspirants for admission in engineering and medical courses. But over the last few years, it has been expanding its offerings. It entered the UPSC coaching space after joining forces with OnlyIAS in 2022. The potential acquisition of Drishti IAS was seen as a strategic move to bolster Physics Wallah's offline presence and diversify its portfolio ahead of its planned IPO. Rs 500 notes to be discontinued from March next year? Here's what govt says

Representational Image The Central government has rejected the claims made in a YouTube video that the Rs 500 currency not would be phased out from circulation from March next year. In a post on X, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) fact-checked the claim, stating that no such announcement has been made by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and Rs 500 notes would continue to remain legal tender. 'A YouTube video on the YT Channel 'CAPITAL TV' (capitaltvind) falsely claims that the RBI will discontinue the circulation of Rs 500 notes by March 2026. RBI has made NO such announcement. Rs 500 notes have NOT been discontinued and remain legal tender,' the PIB informed. The fact-check came after a video on video-sharing platform YouTube claimed that the government was planning to phase out the Rs 500 note from March next year, akin to how Rs 2000 currency notes were removed from circulation. The 12-minute video, which has over 5 lakh views on YouTube, has been widely shared on other social media platforms. However, authorities have rejected the claims made in the video, and urged netizens to always verify such information from official sources. 'Don't fall for such misinformation. Always verify news from official sources before believing or sharing it,' the PIB added in its post. Earlier, the government phased out the Rs 2000 notes, urging people to deposit this denomination in the banks. However, Rs 2000 are still considered legal tender, and Rs 6,181 crore worth of notes are still in circulation, according to media reports. Currently, Rs 500 is most widely-circulated currency note in India, accounting for 41% of the total notes, with an 86% share in transactions done via cash. The government is urging citizens to use smaller denominations and digital payments, but Rs 500 notes continues to be a big part of cash transactions in the country.

Poco F7 to launch in India later this month: Here's what we know so far

Xiaomi sub-brand Poco on Friday, June 6, announced that it will be launching the Poco F7 in India sometime later this month. The news comes from the Indian e-commerce giant Flipkart, which recently put up a special microsite for the upcoming phone. The Flipkart page does not give away the launch date, but the URL does mention that the phone will be coming sometime this month. As of now, not much is known about the smartphone, but several leaks and rumours have hinted that the smartphone will likely be based on the China-exclusive Redmi Turbo 4 Pro. The Poco F7 is rumoured to be powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the mid-range chipset with flagship-like performance that made its debut on the iQOO Neo 10. This will likely be accompanied by a huge 6.83-inch flat LTPO AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 1.5K resolution and 1,800 nits of brightness. If the Poco F7 is the same as the Redmi Turbo 4 Pro, the device will most likely come with HyperOS 2 based on Android 15 and have an optical in-display fingerprint scanner. Coming to the camera, the Poco F7 is rumoured to have a vertically aligned elliptical camera island that houses a Sony LYT-600 50MP primary camera in addition to an 8MP ultrawide shooter. Since this is a performance oriented device, it looks like the phone will be missing out on a telephoto shooter. The phone is also rumoured to come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage and will be backed by a 7,550mAh Silicon Carbon battery that changes at 90W. However, it is unlikely to get wireless charging support. While the Chinese variant comes in three colourways – Black, White and Green, it is unclear if these colour options will find their way to India. Like its predecessor, the Poco F7 will be priced somewhere between Rs 30,000 to Rs 35,000, but we will have to wait to know more.
