Pakistan, Egypt set to enhance ties in digital domain
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Egypt are set to enhance bilateral cooperation in the digital domain, with a focus on cybersecurity, 5G, fintech, and training programmes, as highlighted during a meeting between Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja and Egypt's Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan.
During the meeting, both sides explored opportunities for joint workshops in cybersecurity and submarine cable systems.
The ambassador expressed Egypt's keen interest in developing partnerships in emerging technologies and human resource development through scholarships and training programmes.
Minister Khawaja underlined the alignment between Egypt's digitisation agenda and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's vision of a 'Digital Pakistan,' emphasising that the two countries share strong cultural and developmental similarities that can pave the way for strategic collaboration.
Highlighting Pakistan's progress in cybersecurity, she said the country's hackathons have earned international recognition, and invited Egyptian youth to participate in these competitions. She also pointed out Pakistan's strategic geographic position and its advanced telecom infrastructure with seven submarine cables — a foundation for deeper engagement with Egypt in maritime connectivity.
Both sides agreed to continue engagement for concrete initiatives in the digital sector that would benefit both nations and strengthen bilateral ties.

UHS approves Rs2.71bn budget, revenue target set at Rs4.2bn
LAHORE: The Board of Governors of the University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore accorded approval of a Rs. 2.71 billion budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 during its 59th meeting held, here on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Justice Sheikh Ahmed Farooq (retd) and attended by Capt. Zahid Saeed (retd), Naeem Akhtar Sheikh, Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore, pro-vice chancellor Prof. Nadia Naseem, Registrar Kiran Fatima, Treasurer Mujahid Iqbal, and Additional Secretaries from the Punjab Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department and the Finance Department. Treasurer Mujahid Iqbal presented the annual budget, which sets the UHS's revenue target for the year at Rs. 4.2 billion. Key allocations include Rs. 77.57 million for research and scholarships, Rs. 358.77 million for development projects, and Rs. 917.3 million for staff salaries. In line with the Punjab government's policy, a 10 percent increase in employees' salaries was also approved. Operational expenses of the UHS have been earmarked at Rs. 367.1 million, while Rs. 400 million has been allocated for the conduct of examinations. Inter-collegiate sports and co-curricular activities will receive Rs. 25 million. A sum of Rs. 147 million has been allocated for the construction of a mosque and complex at the Jinnah Campus. Additionally, Rs. 72 million has been set aside for installing an elevator at the City Campus and transitioning both campuses to solar energy. For conferences and workshops, Rs. 48 million have been allocated. Speaking on the occasion, the vice- chancellor Prof. Ahsan Waheed Rathore said that UHS had organized more than 750 workshops over the past year for the capacity building of faculty members across Punjab's medical and health education institutions.
