Dallas star Priscilla Pointer dead at 100: Hollywood actress was once Steven Spielberg's mother-in-law
Dallas star Priscilla Pointer, who played the mother of one of the two main feuding families on the 1980s soap opera, has died aged 100.
Her passing was announced this Tuesday by her actress daughter Amy Irving, who was married to Steven Spielberg from 1985 to 1989.
Amy broke the news on Instagram, writing that her mother had ' died peacefully in her sleep' on Monday, ' hopefully to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs. She most definitely will be missed.'
Priscilla's son David Irving shared that his mother ended her days at an assisted living facility in Ridgefield, Connecticut, via The Hollywood Reporter.
She appeared on a string of beloved TV series ranging from The A-Team and The Flash to L.A. Law and Judging Amy to E.R.
In addition to her television work, Priscilla also featured in a number of classic movies, including Blue Velvet, Carrie and Mommie Dearest.
Priscilla acted on Dallas as Rebecca Wentworth, an oil tycoon's wife who turns out to be the long-lost mother of Cliff (Ken Kercheval) and Pam (Victoria Principal) Barnes.
The primetime soap began by highlighting the contrast between the wealthy Ewing family and the poorer Barnes family - a dynamic that gets dramatically upended by the revelation that Cliff and Pam had a rich mother all along.

Inside Saw's future as 'disagreements' over film left horror franchise 'dead'
The Saw films were a staple of 2000s horror, introducing fans to the twisted, torturous traps of the iconic Jigsaw killer. Directed by James Wan and co-written with Leigh Whannell, the first film was released in 2004 in which serial killer Jigsaw imprisoned Adam Stanheight ( Whannell) and Lawrence Gordon (Cary Elwes) with the purpose of subjecting them to a series of puzzles to escape. Across the franchise, Jigsaw – or John Kramer (Tobin Bell), as the jaw-dropping ending of the first film reveals – has attracted acolytes who have continued his twisted games spanning 10 films so far. Released in 2023, Saw X took us back in time to the period between Saw and Saw II in which Kramer desperately seeks life-saving treatment following his cancer diagnosis, but is instead duped by con artists and enacts his bloody revenge. Soon after its release, an 11th film was announced, but the production of Saw XI has been anything but smooth with delays, a cancellation, and rumours of behind-the-scenes drama. With a potential lifeline for the legendary horror series now in the mix, we take a look at what exactly is going on with Saw XI. Following the runaway success of Saw X, it was confirmed in December 2023 that Saw XI was on its way. Saw X landed the highest Rotten Tomatoes rating for any film in the franchise, grossing a whopping $125million (£92.3m) worldwide. It was announced that Kevin Greutert, who directed the 10th film, would be returning for Saw XI, and Bell would also be reprising his role as the iconic John Kramer. Co-writer Patrick Melton – who penned Saw IV, Saw V, Saw VI, and Saw 3D – teased what fans could expect from the 'very timely' plot of the 11th installment. 'It taps into the same themes of Saw VI, where you're a citizen, you feel angry and frustrated with something, you feel like you can't do anything, and John Kramer's going to do it,' he told The Hollywood Reporter. Given Bell's return, it seems the 11th film was set to be another prequel set between the events of Saw and Saw II, which could have meant we would see Shawnee Smith's Amanda Young hit the big screen again. A post-credit scene from Saw X also saw Costas Mandylor reprise his role as police detective turned Jigsaw disciple Mark Hoffman, which could mean he was set to star in Saw XI though this was never confirmed. Speaking to SFX magazine, producer Oren Koules hinted that it would be a direct follow-up to the events of Saw X. 'Cecilia is still alive and Tobin and Shawnee are in a foreign country still. So that, to me, would be the natural place to take at least the next one,' he revealed. Saw XI was originally set to be released on September 27 of the same year, but was delayed until September this year, it was announced in April 2024. Never Let Go, starring Halle Berry, took the film's original release date. Two Lionsgate titles saw their release dates change in the same announcement – the remake of The Crow and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. After a period of silence over the film, sources told Bloody Disgusting that Saw XI was 'totally, 100% dead' due to disagreements at studio level. The report, released on March 27, claimed 'everything went sideways in January 2024' due to producers fighting. 'It's totally dead,' the insider said. 'It's 100% over. Almost a year now.' They claimed that one producer attempted to 'plough forward' with production, while the other 'put up roadblocks' that halted production. '[Lionsgate] didn't have anyone to smooth over the disagreement,' the source added, claiming 'greed and ego won.' Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Melton confirmed the claims that the movie has 'stalled at a managerial level.' 'The reason it's held up is just, there's inter-squabbling between producers and Lionsgate. They just can't quite get on the same page,' he said. He continued: 'It has nothing to do with the creative or anything else. There's higher-level things at play.' Saw – Netflix and Prime Video Saw II – Netflix Saw III – Netflix Saw IV – Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store Saw V – Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store Saw VI – Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store Saw: 3D – Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store Jigsaw – Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store Spiral: From The Book of Saw – Available to rent via Prime Video, Apple TV, and the Sky Store Saw X – Netflix The writer claimed he and writing partner Marcus Dunstan turned in a draft of the script in 2024, but that he hadn't 'heard anything' since then. Greutert also addressed the apparent cancellation in a Reddit post, writing: 'Let's just say that this past year+ has been among the saddest and most frustrating of my life.' A week after the damning news of the Saw XI cancellation, fans were offered an unusual glimmer of hope. The franchise's killer mascot, Billy the Puppet, posted a cryptic statement suggesting the game is far from over. 'I've seen the rumors. They say it's Game Over. You all should know me better than that. The game is never over,' the tricycle-riding puppet said in a statement shared by Lionsgate. But at the same time, it was announced that Saw XI had been completely removed from Lionsgate's release schedule, seemingly sealing its fate. Which brings us to June 4, 2025, when Deadline reported that Blumhouse is allegedly in the process of acquiring perspective rights to Twisted Pictures' portion of Saw. If the deal goes ahead, Blumhouse would take over the ownership of the franchise rights from Twisted Pictures owners Mark Burg and Oren Koules. Lionsgate would still be involved in the project, seeing as the company owns 50% of the franchise. More Trending If Blumhouse takes over the Saw franchise, and therefore Saw XI, it would mean Saw is reunited with co-creator James Wan following Blumhouse's merger with his company Atomic Monster. It is unknown what stage the deal is at, as Lionsgate, Twisted Pictures, and Blumhouse have not yet addressed the report. It could mean that Saw XI has been brought back from the dead by Blumhouse, famed for titles such as Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Insidious, Sinister, and many more. Wind Breaker – Season 2 Episode 10 Recap & Review
Episode 10 As the fight continues, Tsubaki says GRAVEL's trying to steal Shizuka's love, and he takes that personally. Compared to that pain, his punches mean nothing. Then, in an awesome counter, he slams Suzuri's head to the ground. All his team members get worried about him and scream his name, which confuses Sakura. However, their leader gets back up easily and tells Tsubaki that everything he's saying is idealistic, highlighting how far apart their realities are. When Suzuri was a child, he hated seeing his friends fight over food. So, he convinced them to start sharing, which resulted in everyone having crumbs for a meal. They didn't remember the last time they had their stomachs full, but at least they weren't turning against each other. When he realized they'd never achieve anything and die a pointless death, he had to act. That's how he united them and created GRAVEL. Tsubaki keeps talking about how painful loss is, but he never had anything to begin with. So, it doesn't matter what he says, it's all static to him. That's when the boy charges desperately, making the brawl even more frenetic than before. But that sparks a change in Tsubaki, as well. He realizes the pain Suzuri's going through, even if he doesn't fully understand it. When he defeats Suzuri, and the boy can't move anymore, he says he's sorry. Now, Tsubaki wants to do anything he can to help him and the other GRAVEL members. In accordance, Kanji and other people from the district tell them that many stores are opening or require new employees. That way, they can follow a new path without giving up on what they love. After that, Suzuri gives up and accepts the opportunity. He also apologizes to all his friends, saying he forced them down the wrong path. Even though he expects a bad response, they immediately acknowledge his new decision. They're all a unit, so they must stay together. Then, Tsubaki scolds Shizuka. When she tried to give up and turn herself in, she was trampling on everybody's feelings. Tsubaki wants her to understand that she can never do that again. Then, Shizuka says she's sorry, and both of them start hugging and crying. As Kanji tries to diffuse the situation, his friends start teasing him about how he and Shizuka should already be dating. Suou then jokes about it with Sakura, expecting the boy to be flustered by the couple's talk. However, he's lost in his thoughts. Sakura tells Kanji he can't stand the way his group fights. At first, he thought their mentality was cool, but he changed his mind after realizing what it meant. Even though he understands it's naive, he doesn't want any of his friends to get hurt. And Kanji agrees with him. He can't do that, but he believes Sakura should try. The boy's smart and strong enough to achieve that one day. Even if it's idealistic, it's the best possible outcome. Right when everything seems peaceful, Kanji remembers someone hired GRAVEL to kidnap Shizuka. Although Suzuri believes he can talk things out and solve the problem, it seems 'the problem' is already there. Suddenly, a tattooed man calls him a loser and affirms he can't do anything. It turns out he is the same guy who appeared after the KREEL fight, and Tsubaki knows him. To the point, he seems scared to see the man there. The Episode Review After KREEL, it's nice seeing an antagonist who isn't actually a villain. Not to mention that understanding what's going through his mind and what motivated him to become who he is. Suzuri having a deeper story is a nice surprise. It's similar to what happened with Tomiyama and Togame in season 1. They're all teenagers, and Wind Breaker tries to be realistic, so it wouldn't make sense if they were cartoonishly horrible people. So, if Suzuri isn't the real villain, who is? Well, we don't know him yet, but he already seems incredible. The tattooed man clearly has a connection to Furin and has been orchestrating many things until now. The anime has yet to explain how Umemiya changed the school and who made it the way it was before. Hence, there's definitely a story there. It feels weird that this is happening as a cliffhanger to the next episode, instead of to the following season. However, it also makes the final stretch of the season even more exciting. Previous Episode Next Episode Expect A Full Season Write-Up When This Season Concludes!

Oscar-winner's daughter slammed for calling her wealthy life a 'bore'
Sofia Coppola's daughter Romy Mars is 18 years old, absurdly well-connected, and, according to her new song, totally disillusioned with it all. The daughter of the Oscar-winning director and French musician Thomas Mars, and granddaughter of The Godfather legend Francis Ford Coppola, Romy has just released her debut single A-Lister. The track takes aim at the gilded cage of privilege she's been raised in, but many are divided on whether it's a salient satire or an out-of-touch cry for attention from a spoiled nepo baby. 'My world is heartless, tasteless, nameless, famous,' she sings in the chorus, her voice floating over polished production. The lyrics are blunt: red carpets are hollow, wealth is numbing, and fame is boring. 'Recreate scenes from Titanic on a flying bridge yacht / Just to feel something real,' she sighs, painting a picture of a decadent yet unhappy childhood. Romy is a fully-fledged 'nepo grandbaby,' part of a dynasty that includes cousin Nicolas Cage, aunt Talia Shire, and cousin Gia Coppola. She was scouted by Marc Jacobs at 13, sits front row at fashion weeks, and has been a fixture at galas and film festivals since before she could vote. So it's no surprise that reactions to A-Listers have been mixed. Some praised the track for its self-aware tone, calling Romy 'meta,' 'fresh,' or even 'a Gen Z Lana Del Rey with a trust fund.' One fan wrote under the music video on Youtube: 'So talented so good so fun!!! The women in this family are oh so creative and gifted and you are making your name for yourself, in your own right, with this song :) Go Romy Go!!!' Another agreed: 'I love this kind of nepo baby I'm obsessed!' But others saw it as tone-deaf. 'It's tasteless to call your multitudes of wealth that you didn't earn 'a bore,'' another YouTube comment reads. Another is blunter: 'Talentless, insufferable, overproduced nepo-baby garbage.' Adding to the buzz is the music video, directed by none other than her mother, Sofia Coppola, whose career has long explored themes of isolation, excess, and the invisible weight of being young, beautiful, and trapped. In Lost in Translation, it was Scarlett Johansson's disaffected newlywed. In The Bling Ring, it was teens robbing celebrities to get closer to fame. In A-Listers, it's her own daughter, lip-syncing in designer clothes, escaping to West Coast mansions and party scenes with a blank stare and heavy lashes. The irony is built in, and maybe (hopefully) intentional. It's not the first time Romy has gone viral for poking at the absurdity of her own life. In 2023, she caused an internet frenzy with a now-deleted TikTok video in which she tried to cook pasta while explaining she was grounded for attempting to charter a helicopter on her dad's credit card to visit a friend in Maryland. The clip earned millions of views. 'They don't want me to be a nepotism kid,' she said, referring to her parents' social media ban. More Trending Sofia later told The Hollywood Reporter she was none too pleased by the moment. 'She's funny,' she allowed. 'But people discussing my parenting publicly is not what I would've hoped for.' Still, for all the pushback, there's something undeniably compelling about Romy Mars. Like many young artists raised in rarefied air, she's testing how much of that identity she can claim, subvert, or escape from. Is she self-aware? Spoiled? Satirical? All three? Or just 18, trying to process a life most people couldn't dream of, and probably shouldn't envy? Got a story?
