Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan stated that the
voter list revision
in Bihar raises concerns regarding the "potential disenfranchisement of vulnerable sections of society," while calling for a discussion.
"That this House suspend Zero Hour and the relevant rules pertaining to Question Hour and other businesses of the day to discuss the concerns arising out of the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar and its proposed expansion to states such as West Bengal. These exercises raise serious concerns regarding the potential disenfranchisement of vulnerable sections of society, who are likely to face significant challenges in complying with the Election Commission's directives within a limited timeframe," Ranjan said in her notice.

Earlier in the day, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala moved a notice for the suspension of business in the upper house of Parliament on Tuesday, demanding a discussion on the SIR.
Writing to the Secretary-General, Rajya Sabha, Surjewala, stated, "I hereby give notice under Rule 267 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Council of States (Rajya Sabha) of my intention to move the following motion for the suspension of business listed for 29 July 2025."

CM Yogi launches UP's first integrated township in Meerut
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday flayed the Congress and the Samajwadi Party (SP) for protecting criminal networks as he specifically referred to the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The CM said the Congress falsely implicated Hindus in the Malegaon blast case as he demanded an apology for what he called their 'anti-India and anti-Sanatan' actions. In the Malegaon case, it shamelessly pursued a false agenda against Hindus. 'Freedom fighters didn't sacrifice their lives for us to be divided by caste and caught in riots. Sotiganj was the identity of the Congress and the SP; our identity is development,' he said. Yogi further said now Meerut has a new identity in the form of the Meerut expressway, rapid rail and the state's first sports university. On the occasion, the CM dedicated the ₹2,570 crore, 295-hectare integrated township to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, emphasising its potential to generate employment, attract industries and include schools, a medical college and consolidated divisional offices. 'This township will redefine Meerut with residential, industrial and commercial zones, offering affordable housing for NCR residents and connectivity via the rapid rail corridor,' he said. Yogi also highlighted plans to enhance tourism at Bhola Ki Jhaal, a water body in Meerut, and redevelop the Circuit House. The CM praised PM Narendra Modi's vision for promoting indigenous goods, urging citizens to avoid foreign products that could fund terrorism. 'Your money should not end up in the hands of terrorists. This is new India and new Uttar Pradesh — no place for mafia or crime,' he said. Yogi also announced progress on India's largest expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj, set to reduce travel time to Lucknow to six hours and revealed plans for a new expressway to Haridwar and approval for Meerut's inner road projects. Targeting the opposition further, he likened those dividing society on caste lines to 'termites' and criticised their hypocrisy. 'They send their children abroad but feel pain when the poor get better facilities. They want you to travel by bullock cart,' the CM said.

PM Modi to address NDA parliamentary meeting on August 5
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the BJP-led NDA parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), a get-together of the ruling alliance's MPs which is being held after a considerable gap. The NDA meeting comes a couple of days before the filing of nomination for Vice-President's election begins from August 7. The NDA will have to announce its candidate, whose election will be a certainty due to the alliance's majority in the electoral college, by August 21, the last date of nomination-filing and the Monsoon Session of Parliament. The meeting comes in the middle of a session which has been all but a washout so far, except for a two-day discussion on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, due to a united Opposition's ceaseless protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar by the Election Commission of India. Mr. Modi is expected to speak on a host of current issues as the Opposition has been raising the heat over the poll body's alleged partisan conduct favouring the government, and the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor. The Prime Minister is also likely to be felicitated by the parliamentary party over his government's military response to the terror strike. The electoral college for the vice president poll includes MPs of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, and its current strength is 782. If the Opposition also names a candidate, a distinct possibility, then the poll is scheduled to be held on September 9. Sources said Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and a few BJP national general secretaries are likely to be coordinating with allies for the vice presidential poll. Since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when the BJP lost its majority but comfortably crossed the halfway mark with allies, the sessional meeting of the party's MPs was expanded to include its allies. PM Modi had addressed the first such meeting on July 2. However, no meeting has been held in the last few sessions. Before the last national elections, he used to address the weekly meetings of BJP parliamentary party, now expanded to include party's allies such as the TDP, JD(U), and LJP (Ram Vilas). The meeting is attended by MPs of the ruling alliance, and Mr. Modi often covers a sweep of political and governance issues, and at times touches on the government's agenda in Parliament. He often offers to the MPs talking points to be raised in public, especially their constituencies.

Malegaon Blast: Maharashtra Must Challenge Acquittal Verdict, Says Congress MLA Arif Masood
New Delhi: Congress MLA from Madhya Pradesh, Arif Masood, urged the Maharashtra government to file an appeal against the acquittal of all seven accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit. Masood emphasized that terrorism has no religion and should not be associated with any faith. He cited the state government's recent decision to challenge the Bombay High Court's acquittal of 12 accused in the 7/11 Mumbai train blasts case, stating that similar action should be taken in the Malegaon case. "Terrorism has no religion, nor is it related to any Maharashtra government, which has announced that it would file an appeal against the acquittal of the 12 accused in the 7/11 Mumbai train blasts case by the Bombay High Court, should do the same thing in the Malegaon case too," said Arif Masood. Meanwhile, families of the Malegaon blast victims have expressed their intent to challenge the verdict of the special NIA court, which acquitted all the accused on July 31. Their lawyer, Shahid Nadeem, confirmed that some of the families will independently file appeals. He also criticized the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for not taking action against witnesses who turned hostile during the trial. The Maharashtra government had earlier approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Bombay High Court's acquittal in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts case. In the Malegaon investigation, after the NIA took over from the ATS, it dropped charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), citing issues with how the provisions were applied. The 2008 Malegaon blast occurred on September 29 in the Nashik district, killing six people and injuring over 100. In its judgment, the special court not only acquitted all seven accused but also directed the government to pay compensation, Rs 2 lakh to the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 to the injured. The court found insufficient evidence to prove that Pragya Thakur owned the motorcycle allegedly used in the blast, noting that its chassis number had been erased. It also observed that Thakur had renounced worldly possessions two years before the incident.
